Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

Recommended Posts

The fact that we’ve heard 5 songs in full, 2 whole minutes of 2 other songs, and 1 minute of another one.....literally (assuming 13 tracks is the final) we’re only getting 5 BRAND NEW songs. Maybe even less if HBB and/or SFBSH get on the album. I..

I thought this with Melodrama (Green Light, Liability, Perfect Places, Sober, Homemade Dynamite, Sober II (Melodrama) and Bloom (My My My!, The Good Side, Bloom, Animal, Dance To This) but I still greatly enjoyed them both. I think every song will be of greater value when it's in the context of the album, and therefore it still will feel new. For example, I hated Coachella as a single but somehow after the album's release I quite enjoyed it. I kept playing it and it became one of my favourite Lana songs ever, and a close second/third fave off LFL behind Love and 13 Bitches. I do agree with your sentiment but NFR so far still doesn't feel like an album so I think the full release will help things. Or at least I hope so anyways  :flutter:

They could have asked her what her favorite song on the album is, what instruments were used, which song means the most to her etc. Journalism is dead alright.

I agree omg

Like I get they don't want to pry too much but they could at least try a soft question about the album (something we haven't heard before  :creep: ) and if she reacts well they keep going and if she seems put off or offended they just stop. Not that hard  :crai:

Okay since this era's pulse has been very slow, and Lana talked about making a perfume one day, we can start a new NFR related convo; what do you think a Lana perfume would smell like? Personally I see Roses, Lavender, Lilac, Hydrangeas, etc. Something really powdery, sweet and floral like.

Something that's very tropical and fruity, like mandarin and coconut with waterlily. And some soft powdery notes like sandalwood and musk. :flutter:

NFR doesn't hold anything over AKA lyrically :biblio:

But I guess I could say it's like UV and AKA had a baby instrumental wise, and UV lyrics. But not AKA lyrics :poordat:

NFR:

Fear fun, fear love

Fresh out of fucks, forever

Tryin' to be stronger for you

Ice cream, ice queen

I dream in jeans and leather

Life's dream, I'm sweet for you

Oh God, miss you on my lips

It's me, your little Venice bitch

On the stoop with the neighborhood kids

Callin' out, bang bang, kiss kiss

AKA:

The headlights from passing cars

They illuminate my face, and

Leave me in the dark

The voice of Nirvana says

"Come as you are"

And I will

The night time is almost ours

The sway of the hips and arms

Will cradle you from afar

They swing till you're tired

And send you to Mars

Night time is almost ours

NFR:

I was reading Slim Aarons and I got to thinking that I thought

Maybe I'd get less stressed if I was tested less like

All of these debutantes

Smiling for miles in pink dresses and high heels on white yachts

But I'm not, baby, I'm not

No, I'm not, that, I'm not

AKA:

In the name of higher consciousness

I let the best man I knew go

'Cause it's nice to love and be loved

But it's better to know all you can know

I said it's nice to love and be loved

But I'd rather know what God knows

NFR:

And who I've been is with you on these beaches

Your Venice bitch, your die-hard, your weakness

Maybe I could save you from your sins

So, kiss the sky and whisper to Jesus

My, my, my, you found this, you need this

Take a deep breath, baby, let me in

AKA:

Look at you smoking in them neon lights

Under the thunder, oh you look so nice

Made me wonder how you spend them nights

Me, I spend them looking for men I might like

Like you

See what I mean? AKA writing painted a vivid picture of events artistically, whereas NFR is subjective and not as cohesive in concept song wise. It seems as though there's more grit and substance to AKA lyrics, and NFR lyrics simply just pretty words piled together. Don't get me wrong I love NFR, but it's not exactly in the same universe as AKA lyric wise :poordat: still excited for the album though and I think it's beautiful in its own way

i won't disagree tht AKA lyricism was gorgeous (n my personal favorite)- it ran with the vivid grittiness & faux-glamour before BtD's realized glamor was set in stone- it's incredibly realistic and romanticizes every lil inch of lower-middle class life- but using the poorer lyrics from NFR don't help :rip:

besides, the theme of the song changes the content of the lyrics; why would a song about her inner emotions and psyche be as descriptive as a song meant to describe a lover or time in her life??? all 3 songs you chose from AKA are about other people or times, whereas 2/3 of the NFR songs we have are about herself

"You lose your way, just take my hand

You're lost at sea, then I'll command your boat to me again

Don't look too far, right where you are, that's where I am

I'm your man

I'm your man

They mistook my kindness for weakness

I fucked up, I know that, but Jesus

Can't a girl just do the best she can?

Catch a wave and take in the sweetness

Think about it, the darkness, the deepness

All the things that make me who I am"

--
"You're in the yard, I light the fire

And as the summer fades away

Nothing gold can stay

You write, I tour, we make it work

You're beautiful and I'm insane

We're American-made"

--
I had fifteen-year dances

Church basement romances, yeah, I've cried

Spilling my guts with the Bowery bums

Is the only love I've ever known

Except for the stage, which I also call home, when I'm not

Servin' up God in a burnt coffee pot for the Triad

Hello, it's the most famous woman you know on the iPad

Calling from beyond the grave, I just wanna say, "Hi, Dad"

I've been tearing up town in my fucking white gown

Like a goddamn near sociopath

Shaking my ass is the only thing that's

Got this black narcissist off my back

She couldn't care less, and I never cared more

So there's no more to say about that

Except hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have

Hope is a dangerous thing for a woman with my past

are all gorgeous lyrics, to say they aren't is wrong bc i said so

and i'd even say it's a bit shortsighted to potentially critique the lack of lyrics in Venice Bitch (a song centered around tone n production rather than lyrics, they exist) when theres songs like Brite Lites on AKA that is even more simple with less of a clear direction for production intent & importance

"I look for you in magazines

I look for you in magazines
I look for you in magazines
I'm taking off my wedding ring
I gave you everything
I gave you everything
Give me the bright lights
Give me the bright lights
Give me the bright lights, yeah
Give me the bright lights
Give me the bright lights
Give me the bright lights, yeah
I'm going back to Arbor Dean
I'm going back to Arbor Dean
I'm going back to Arbor Dean
Where when I was a beauty queen"

I will admit there's some beautiful lines from the songs we got, but I don't know I feel like they lack some grit? It could be because Lana has been writing for so long! But yeah I wouldn't compare NFR lyrics to AKA cause they're so different, but then again I wouldn't compare BTD lyrics to AKA either, or HM to UV, etc. They're just all really, different? I don't know how to explain it

That billboard photo could def be an album cover

Clive-Davis-pre-grammy-gala-Lana-Del-Rey

No. I hate album covers like this. They're so uninspired, dull and basic. She looks beautiful and elegant, and for a photoshoot the picture is stunning; but album covers should be more artistic looking

this is best case scenario but realistically it's gonna smell like cheap pauperie, coinpurse change, and dust from the shelves in an annoyingly basic and ill-stocked goodwill

For me, later this year and later in the year don't mean the same thing. Later this year seems closer, while later in the year means many months later (of course only my opinion). But still, it's pretty much confirmed it's delayed... Oh Lana, WHY DID YOU START THIS ERA SO SOON

I'll do it for the right reasons

I don't know they mean the same thing to me. Tomorrow is both later this year and later in the year. All you're doing is substituting this for in the, which doesn't change the fact that it will be later. Just like saying "there's a fire in the house" vs "there's a fire in this house" means the exact same thing.
