can you guys be for real?? they're fucking caterpillars babe who gives a fuck    (and they aren't getting hurt) i honestly wouldn't even care if her promo was to kill hundreds of caterpillars and pin them on billboards all over LA i think people just love to complain

for sure, I do really think this was a cute idea but it definitely needed to be in more than one city, (pretty much ALL the comments on MarinaHQ are from fans not in LA upset they can’t join in, probably not the hype they hoped to generate online), and scheduled better (at the weekend perhaps)
 

when orange trees was a single they put up a site where a certain amount of presaves in a region unlocked a different snippet, unfortunately the website leaked as whoever worked on it tweeted a demo link which had like, 3/5 snippets available, but I really think that was a nice interactive idea.
 

someone could go out and get the QR code & a little gift bag of caterpillars stuff then the people who are too far away can start presaving the link for the snippets, everybody wins

My expectations for this album are extremely low but I do still hope that one day there will be a switch within her and she'll start making good music again. We saw glimpses of it on songs like ADIAML title track and venus fly trap so it's still in there.

Not Marina using all her budget up on caterpillars before the albums even announced.  I just hope she doesn’t drag this out too long, all this is unnecessary really. Just drop the single and album date sis.

"Sent her fans" implies that she mailed out to random people live beings without a care. Upon knowing what was inside the bag the fans could not take the caterpillars if they did not want to. For those that did take the bags, it has everything needed to ensure the survival of the animal--an upkeep plan that is in many ways easier than taking care of a plant. Most first-grade classrooms do this kind of activity, as it helps people better understand life cycles and again, its failure is not all that different from killing a plant (which in itself should be seen as cruel but I doubt if she put out tulips y'all would be upset). I appreciate the thought of the campaign, and timeline-wise it is similar to other artists' teasing of new eras.

sure but if she didnt promote the single or album at all and just released them people would be calling her forgettable and lazy like they have everything shes done for the past couple of years. its creative, on theme, and served its purpose. it let people know marina is releasing soon, and thats all that really matters. it is just a marketing tool.

and like other people have mentioned, the caterpillars are optional to take.
