Things you associate with Lana albums / songs

I thought i’d start with colors i associate with her albums 

 

AKA - pale pink, cream

Born To Die - sky blue, bright red

Paradise - gold, deep green

Ultraviolence, grey, violet (lol this one is pretty obvious)

Honeymoon - dark blue, maroon

Lust For Life - a dark aquamarine, bright red, hints of lemony yellow

NFR - lime green, sunset orange, cerulean

Chemtrails - sage green, white

Blue Banisters - stone blue, pale yellow

Ocean Blvd - pale yellow, pale pink

These are mostly personal associations for me:

 

• AKA - summer, midwest and southern USA, corn fields and plains, gas stations, motels 
• Born To Die - summer, swimming pool, Fourth of July, summer nights
• Paradise - winter, dark, cold, depressing
• Ultraviolence - summer, lake, hot, humid
• Honeymoon - September at dusk and early nighttime, cool nighttime weather, driving at night on peaceful roads with windows down
• Lust For Life - parking lots, politics, my ex, specifically summer 2017 since I listened to it the most then and that summer was weird and unique for me anyways
• NFR - late summer, evening into sunset into dusk into dark, golden plains with sun still shining but dark gray storm clouds looming on the horizon, boats, the beach
• Chemtrails - autumn, fog, mist, saloons, cottages, Midwest gothic aesthetic, also the pandemic right before we got vaccines 
• Blue Banisters - autumn into winter
• Ocean Blvd - black and white, cloudy, rainy, religion, loss, family, heaven

 

This made me notice the the albums that I have the least distinct things associated with them (Paradise, LFL, Blue Banisters) are also my least favorite albums. I wonder if it’s because I listen to them the least that I have less things to associate them with or if I like them less because I don’t have things to associate them with. Interesting.

Not a motiff in particular, just an assortment of things that come to my head when listening to the albums:

• AKA: Convenience stores, neon lights, going out at night, road trips
• Born to Die: Roses, cocktails, Coca-Cola, candy, skater dresses
• Paradise: Palm trees, bars, beaches, motels
• Ultraviolence: New York, all-nighters, smoke, coffee, the 70's, rain
• Honeymoon: Summer, lace, ice cream, hearts and shades of pink
• Lust for Life: the 60's, endings, heartbreak, uncertainty, autumn
• NFR: California, the ocean, sunsets, vanilla coke, bright colors
• COTCC: fields of grass, cold mornings, birds singing, fog, smell of wood
• Blue Banisters: the end of summer, nostalgia, frustation
• Ocean Blvd: Porcelain, music boxes, ribbons, ocean waves, The Beatles

This is so oddly specific and really hard to explain - but there are these specific buildings where I live that just give me the vibes of specific Lana songs/albums. 

There is a set of flats in this Tudor-style building round the corner from me that just reminds me of AKA so much. 

Also, there is a hotel near me that is white with old Tudor-esque black beams across it that reminds me so much of her cover of Chelsea Hotel #2  It is so oddly specific and hard to explain but yeah, Lana's music and British architecture seem to go hand in hand for me
