MET GALA 2024 - "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion"

Recommended Posts

The 2024 Met Gala will take place on Monday, May 6 and will celebrate the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”

The official dress code is “The Garden of Time.” The exhibit will feature approximately 250 rare items drawn from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection. Spanning over 400 years of fashion history, the pieces will include designs by Schiaparelli, Dior, Givenchy, and more. Some garments that are too fragile to ever be worn again—such as a Charles Frederick Worth ball gown from 1877—will also be displayed via video animation, light projection, AI, CGI, and other forms of sensory stimulation.

Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, and Vogue’s Anna Wintour will serve as this year’s official co-chairs, while honorary chairs for the evening are Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson and TikTok CEO Shou Chew.

Aside from the previously named co-chairs, the only other confirmed guest is Rihanna, who is no stranger to fashion's biggest night. Speaking to Vogue, she told, “I’m gonna wear Fenty something! Fenty Beauty, Fenty Skin, Fenty Savage…”

Page Six has reported that Gisele Bündchen, Kendall Jenner, Olivia Rodrigo, Uma Thurman, Sarah Paulson and Cara Delevingne, who have all attended the event before, will be in attendance again this year. Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan is also said to have scored an invitation.

The outlet also reported that two other newcomers to the guest list include Killers of the Flower Moon's Lily Gladstone and The Bear's Ayo Edebiri.

According to The New York Times's fashion director and chief fashion critic Vanessa Friedman, the "odds are good" that Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez will be at the gala, and chances are "high that Loewe faces such as Greta Lee, Josh O’Connor, Taylor Russell and Jamie Dornan may also show." In an interview with E! News, Zendaya said she believes "the boys" aka her Challengers costars [Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist] "are going to go."

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce reportedly received invites, but TMZ and Us Weekly have reported that the couple won't be going.

Discuss, which celebrities (besides Lana Del Rey ), looks and brands you're looking forward the most! After the event, post your favorite ones!

i always love to see lily rose depp her outfits are always impeccable to me

also, i was reading up on the theme and im wondering will anyone take it more literally

Spoiler

this is a lament that the modern age, the age of mass capitalism and democracy, socialism and the welfare state, overpopulation and mass media, etc (pick your bogeyman), is an age in which nobody will appreciate the finer things, an age in which society will fail to preserve the finer things.

it’s based on a short story you can read here

id be interested on how this could translate in fashion!

This is the "confirmed" guest list from the Met Gala's fanpage in Instagram (@metgala.official). While it's probably fake and mostly guesses of the current most popular celebrities, I'll put the names here and after the event I'll make a statistic, how many of the guests they got right:

Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Kendall Jenner, Rihanna, ASAP Rocky, Anitta, Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth, Kim Kardashian, Gisele Bündchen, Emma Chamberlain, Margot Robbie, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Celine Dion, Sabrina Carpenter, Anya Taylor Joy, Ariana Grande, Ashley Graham, Lala, Sydney Sweeney, Gwendoline Christie, Blake Lively, Jessica Chastain, Lana Del Rey, Jenna Ortega, Jeremy Allen White, America Ferrera, Selena Gomez, Jack Harlow, Dua Lipa, Timothée Chalamet, Bella Ramsay, Greta Gerwig, Emma Stone, Jackson Wang, Anne Hathaway, Florence Pugh, Cillian Murphy, Lisa (Blackpink), Kylie Jenner, Elsa Pataky, Troye Sivan, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, Hailey Bieber, Cardi B, Kristen Stewart, Ryan Gosling, Rosalia, Nicki Minaj, Pedro Pascal, Jared Leto, Gigi Hadid, Madison Beer, Miley Cyrus, Lily Rose Depp, Nicola Peltz Beckham, Brooklyn Peltz Beckham, Katy Perry, Naomi Campbell, Lizzo, Megan Thee Stallion, Ice Spice, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Halle Bailey, Anok Yai, Hunter Schafer, Cara Delevingne, Madelyn Cline, Hailee Steinfeld, Vittoria, Coco Jones, Karol G, Cynthia Erivo, Emma Roberts, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Robert Downey Jr, Pete Davidson, Meryl Streep, Tom Holland, Ben Affleck, Chloe Bailey, SZA, Kris Jenner, Bradley Cooper, Victoria Monét, Tyla, Barry Keoghan, Irina Shayk, Travis Kelce, Lauren Sanchez, Sarah Paulson, Uma Thurman, Jeff Bezos, Serena Williams, Gemma Chan, Karlie Kloss.

They also wrote many names with many typos and in sentence case, so there's no way that it's official though. I wrote the names here carefully without any typos though (I hope ) lol. Here's the link to the real post of this list though: https://www.instagram.com/p/C6WAC0kL96X/?igsh=c2VqbDNueWhoZTVu

Can someone tell me what the deal is with Zendaya? Why is she everywhere all of a sudden? The poor girl can’t act (or at least not in dune) and from her various appearances she hasn’t struck me with having a particularly interesting fashion sense too (bar that one C-3PO appearance at the dune premier). So not sure why she’s been given the honours of being a co-chair :wtf2:

Zendaya’s acting might not be consistently incredible or revolutionary but when she has material that plays to her strengths, she’s pretty spectacular (see: most of Challenhers, that one episode in the second season of Euphoria, some scenes in Malcolm & Marie). Saying she can’t act at all is a bit of a reach, in my opinion of course.

Fashion-wise, I think she’s pretty much the best one out there right now, maybe behind Rihanna. Her best fashion moments are pure artistry - a lot of credit has to go to the fashion designers and ofc Law Roach - and she seems to be passionate about the things she does. Her venturing into producing is also a good career move and she seems to enjoy it and be competent at it.

I’m not a Zendaya stan by any means but I like it that she exists and it’s very hard to argue with her Joan D’Arc moment at the MET Gala. Her being a co-chair is kind of obvious to me.

I’m very interested to know what Josh O’Connor and Bad Bunny are going to wear. They’re obviously very stylish but it’s hard for me to project this theme onto men. Have no idea what to expect from them.

I feel like half the time the outfits don’t match the category and it’s a bit of a hit or a miss. I’m glad Zendaya is co-chair I feel like she always does a really good job when it comes to the theme

of course there are going to be a select few who get the vision and are going to ROCK it, but overall I’m keeping expectations on the low side. I think Lana is absolutely going to kill it.
