Rocket0212 2,090 Posted 6 hours ago Still listening to the album but after Open Hearts it starts to feel like After Hours 2.0 and I don't like that at all. I still think that After Hours is one of his blandest works. So slow and repetitive. It looks like I'll need to cut a lot of tracks to enjoy this album.
Beautiful Loser 50,632 Posted 6 hours ago Can someone explain to me, why are the physical copies called first pressing? Because there will be changes in the future, or just a different cover art? I’m so confused.
Rocket0212 2,090 Posted 6 hours ago The Abyss giving Don't Call Me Angel where the song is just whatever and then Lana's part is completely different way superior song.
Let the Light In 19,127 Posted 5 hours ago Hurry Up Tomorrow transitions into High For This So the whole The Weeknd persona is in the loop forever. There’s a little break in transition though so it might mean Abel broke through this loop 31 minutes ago, Rocket0212 said: The Abyss giving Don't Call Me Angel where the song is just whatever and then Lana's part is completely different way superior song. lol no way Hold your heart/the abyss was one of the most anticipated songs, ever since he teased it in 2020, it’s absolutely gorgeous 2 Quote I'd be lying if I said I wasn't sick of it

What is it with these DCMA comparisons? Nothing about The Abyss sounds anything like DCMA.

Collectors like first pressings, But in his case it’s a marketing gimmick because with modern albums people really don’t care about that. That said future versions may be a 2-3 lp to contain the whole album. Which physical sales from the current batch have funded…
Rocket0212 2,090 Posted 4 hours ago Idk, I feel like this is way too bloated just like Taylor's Poets, so some songs starting with Opening Night never got a chance to shine. Will come back to some songs after a month or so. Honestly looks like this album is the last chapter just for the symmetry of it making the second trilogy, cause I feel like the last time we saw The Weeknd character was After Hours and he died in that era. Dawn FM already felt different from everything previously released but the whole concept was about closing the chapter and entering something new, so perfect to put The Weeknd to the rest after it. But here we are 3 years later with an album that sounds 30% Dawn FM and 70% After Hours and brings almost nothing new to the table, yet it's branded as the final The Weeknd album. I'm a stan and I'm sure it's going to be one of my most listened albums this year but I'm not the biggest fan of the concept for this era.

I’m still on my first listen, on my way home now after work so I get to listen to the rest, but I’m kinda leaning towards your opinion. I think it sounds great but it’s not very different from the two previous albums, which might not be necessary considering how well they’ve done on charts (and sales? Haven’t checked that though). I can sense some trance influences but they’re minimal. I also worry that I’ll obsess over this album for a couple of weeks and then forget it.
