Fake Diamond

Recommended Posts

You’re like a fake diamond

Sparkling when the lights are on

But when the nighttime comes and all the lights go off

You turn off with ‘em

Where do you go when the lights turn low, boy?

You’re like an old film reel,

Kissing me when the crowd can watch

But when the velvet falls and the projector coughs

I can be sure you’re gone

You say it’s not true, but I know how you do, boy

I’m like a child who belongs to nobody

So I’ll wear you like my clothes

Hold you close to my body

Because you hurt so good, feel so bad, honey

I just want you to want me, want you to want me

You’re like a fake diamond

Sparkling in the moon and sun

You shine like the only one but when the darkness comes

Baby, you’re on the run

Where do you go when the lights turn low, boy?

You’re like my ex-boyfriend

Kissing me when the camera’s on

I’m candy for your arm, look like a debutante

But I’m not what you want

You say it’s not true but I know how you do, boy

I’m like a child who belongs to nobody

So I’ll wear you like my clothes

Hold you close to my body

Because you hurt so good, feel so bad, honey

I just want you to want me, want you to want me

I don't get her analogy of being like a fake diamond lol ..looks pretty on the surface but holds no value?

Without the melody, it's just so sad. I'm imagining Lana on the subway from NY to Coney Island writing those lines. Walking sad, walking errand.

It's bittersweetness at it's best, I can't with people who don't like this song :oprah:

No year.

No producer.

No...anything.

IN ORDER TO REACH THE FULLFILLMENT OF MY LIFE, I REQUIRE THIS TYPE OF INFORMATION. FROM NOW ON, I WILL NOT LISTEN TO ANY SONG FOR WHICH I DO NOT HAVE INFO.

Just kidding. I will just pine away out of confusion.

I'm so glad you've returned to us.

I like this line. It reminds of a line from a Belle & Sebastian song, "If I could have a second skin, I'd probably dress up in you". :3

That's phreakier than phuck, Maru.

A smile just naturally comes to my face at the ex-boyfriend line. I love this song.

I agree! And these lyrics were pretty clear for a Lana song, certainly no "Veuve Cliquot" or "Kiki Montparnasse" to decipher.

You forgot "Pomme Foraine, yeah" or whatever the fuck "Palmferania" really is.

Stalking you has sorta become like my occupation.

I've always had a love/hate relationship with this song. I love the verses, but the chorus is terrible. She should've re-written the chorus, especially the melody. The chorus melody just feels so out of place

I feel like it was written and recorded around the same time as Hollywood's Dead
