tl;dr
#FirstWorldProblems
No, no, no. When you owe people money, you don't leave a shitty job unless and until you find another one.
Stop. Talking. You're making it so much worse.
The money you got was to produce the product and fulfill your obligations. AFTER doing that and ONLY THEN should you have spent any of the money on personal expenses.
It's really not. I don't have Netflix or cable or anything even though I could easily afford it. It's definitely not essential when you can't. Especially when you owe people money. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices in life, and this hardly even qualifies.
As you should. Tons of other people have lost money on your book too. Boo hoo.
As touching as your little family story is, unless it's a matter of life or death, it's just wrong to spend other people's money like that.
Yup.
As harsh as my tone may sound, I do understand what it's like to make dumb financial mistakes when you're young and the shame that goes with it. (I racked up so many parking tickets in college I got my car towed twice and wasted over a thousand dollars.) But you need to take ownership of them and the consequences. And hopefully learn from them.
Make it stop. You're gonna wear out your shovel on this hole you keep digging.
IT WASN'T YOUR MONEY TO SPEND ON GIFTS FOR PEOPLE.
IT WAS YOUR CHOICE TO QUIT YOUR JOB.
While I normally wouldn't recommend quitting school, this is the first faint hint of responsibility in your whole spiel.
Ummm...
I (thankfully) didn't buy a book, and this should be up to the people who did, but if it were up to me, I think you should cut all expenses possible and just work your ass off to pay everyone back as soon as fucking possible. (I mean, even reprinting the lyrics might get you into trouble with copyright.) Chalk this up to a hard-earned life lesson. And then afterwards hopefully go back to school as soon as you're ready and able.

Why can't it be both? These things are not mutually exclusive.
Yes, I think you are. In this instance. Here's why: I don't think his invocation of Lana Del Rey as the object of his misogynistic fantasy is random.
I think Mr. Marshall Bruce Mathers III is not only playing off his deserved reputation for misogynistic lyrics about violence against women, but also the fact that Lana's lyrics and interviews make it sound as if she's into it. Em's trolling y'all.

I always interpreted this as meaning K's original maximum sentence was 30 years, not that he had been in prison that long. And for the record, she was about 20 or 21 at the time since Sirens was recorded in 2005 or 2006.

I found a bunch of old Lake Placid News (LPN), Adirondack Daily Express (ADE), Plattsburgh Press-Rebulican (PPR) articles archived as black and white PDF scans that mention Lizzy, some with photos of her:
Here's a rundown of the rest of the references:
Involvement in Sports
Skiing. "Lately, the students of St. Agnes School have accomplished a lot out of school. Many SAS students particpated recently in some exciting ski races: NYSEF World Cup race for JV (ages 7-10). Placings are as follows... Elizabeth Grant 20th". January 25, 1995 LPN Sports page box score showing her run time and placing ("8. Elizabeth Grant 44.33") in the Ed Damp Junior V World Cup. March 12, 1996 PPR
"The New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) held its annual family race and picnic for participants in the.series last Saturday, at which time the final standings were released... Elizabeth Grant (259)... Completed the top 10." March 23, 1996 ADE
Skating. "The following scholarships have been awarded by the Skating Club of Lake Placid to the skaters named below... $50 scholarships for ice or lessons... Elizabeth Grant." March 27, 1997 ADE Softball. She played center fielder for her middle school team. "Elizabeth grant [sic] OF-C". April 10, 1998 LPN Involvement in Other Extra-curricular Activities

March 7, 2000 LPN "After the Women's Ensemble it was the high school chorus' time to shine... Medley from 'Les Miserables' had many soloists, such as... Elizabeth Grant". June 23, 2000 LPN
What song do you think she sang?
Performed in a variety show (as well as Chuck and Charlie). June 23, 2000 LPN Secretary of the high school Key Club. "On Tuesday May 9, the Key Club members welcomed new leadership... Congratulations also go to the new secretary. Elizabeth Grant". June 23, 2000 LPN Staff of the Blue Times Bomber, the school newspaper which appears to have been an insert in the Lake Placid News. Bishop Gerald Barbarito, bishop of Ogdensburg, came to Lake Placid and confirmed more than 50 people from area Roman Catholic churches, including St Agnes... It was a beautiful and solemn ceremony, with the church's altars and pillars decked in red, the bishop in his red chasuble (robe), wearing his miter on his head and holding his staff in hand. On the altar, dozens of red roses arranged in large vases added to the festive atmosphere. The 17 Lake Placid young people, all dressed in white robes, who received the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the sacrament of confirmation included... Elizabeth Grant". May 26, 2000 LPN Honor Roll
There are also many articles that list her on the honor roll:
Grade 7, High Honors. January 9, 1998 LPN February 13, 1998 LPN March 27, 1998 LPN March 27, 1998 ADE March 30, 1998 PPR May 29, 1998 ADE June 9, 1998 ADE June 19, 1998 LPN July 31, 1998 PPR Grade 8, Honors. December 24, 1999 LPN December 31, 1999 LPN January 28, 2000 LPN This establishes pretty well that she started 9th grade in the fall of 1999. Unless you skip a grade, kids are 14 or 15 when they begin 9th grade (or at least turn 14 shortly after it begins). If Lizzy was really born in 1986 as she claims, she would have just turned 13 the summer before.
Family Members
There's also a lot of articles mentioning other members of her family. I didn't spend a ton of time looking at those, but they appear to be mostly about her parents' efforts to organize opposition to a development project (Lake Placid does really remind me of Twin Peaks sometimes) for classic NIMBY reasons, her dad's real estate listings, and Chuck and Charlie's sports exploits (including a huge fish she caught).
However, this article describes in greater detail her dad's furniture company mentioned in that Domain Name Journal profile on him and this article gives more background on her family's ownership of "God Bless America" singer Kate Smith's home-- which Lizzy mentioned in this article and was the inspiration for the original title of AKA-- and their attempts to sell it at a large profit rather than an affordable price for the Kate Smith/God Bless America Foundation who wanted to turn it into a museum.

Here's the January 2012 BBC article saying "Her left hand is tattooed with a capital letter 'M' for her grandmother, Madeleine [sic]".
But in a status update today, @ flagged this 2011 i-D Magazine interview where she said the 'M' stood for "Magic, 'cos I need it [laughs]".
I've always been skeptical of the grandmother explanation from day one. It always struck me as the kind of post hoc explanation someone might concoct for a tattoo they regret or for which they're embarrassed about the real original inspiration. That "Gramma" may be about her other grandmother and she once claimed it stood for "Magic" do nothing to lessen my skepticism that we're getting the real story here.
Like the OP, my pet theory had long been that it stood for Mike Mizrahi. Until I saw this:
This was briefly the avatar for the YouTube account that originally posted "Let My Hair Down". (Receipts here and here. Note: Alex DeLarge is not my real name.) This account apparently belongs to Adam Tagliamonte, a.k.a "Tags", from Lizzy Grant and the Phenomena. This suggests the stylized 'M' symbol may predate her relationship with Mizrahi. Unfortunately, Tags was not that helpful when I asked him some questions, including about the symbol's significance. Supposedly, those recording sessions that leaked back in January came from Tags. If whoever got those from him hasn't burned their bridges with him in the course of them leaking it'd be cool if they could try to ask him about this. Until then the magic 'M' remains a mystery...

Here's something "juicy"...
Some time ago I was reading this interview and wondered if the teacher she mentions was a teacher at her boarding school.
If you do a little digging, using archive.org you can find that there was a Mr. Campbell that was an English teacher at her boarding school when she attended there, though he doesn't teach there now, and that they follow/friend each other on various social media platforms.
I subsequently discovered "Prom Song (Gone Wrong)" which is a love song in a high school setting, which notably has the following lyrics: "You played me Biggie Smalls and then my first Nirvana song."
More recently, in preparing for the covers-themed LanaDelReydio show I'm working on, I was looking up interviews where she mentions Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, or "Heart-shaped Box" and noticed this in one of the interviews I found:
I nearly did a spit take. But then I found something really weird. In another interview published just a couple days later, she changes the story:
Suddenly, Mr. Campbell turns into a she. WTF is that about? Is she trying to hide something?
Now I'm not necessarily saying I think she fucked her teacher. But I think she at least fantasized about it. (Perhaps the fact that it's her teacher is what "Gone Wrong" refers to.) And I think "Lolita" is about him too. Consider that in Nabokov's novel, Humbert Humbert is a middle-aged literature professor.
All of which just makes this serendipitous:

Ok, so I just watched video he himself uploaded of the most recent concert in Brixton.
I don't mean this as an attack @@Elle, but this goes beyond being nice into doormat territory. If I had been ripped off and seen him I would've said, "What the fuck are you doing here? No, seriously, what the fuck are you doing inside here? Go outside and scalp your ticket and pay some people back. And then pay everyone else back first. And then pay me back last so that I know when you are done." And if he didn't go outside and do it right then I would have publicly shamed him to all the Lana fans within earshot and explained to them how he ripped off other Lana fans for thousands of dollars until he left.
There's a lot of kids doing things of questionable legality at best within this fanbase. Normally I discourage people from getting authorities involved over stupid mistakes people make when they're young over dumb fan stuff that could affect the rest of their lives. (One of the more disgusting things I've seen happen is people report others for some minor illegal technicality like copyright violation when they mostly don't even care about that and are mostly just pissed about some petty personal bullshit or jealousy.) But this is different. This totals up to a substantial amount of money, stolen from other fans, many of whom are probably not that deep-pocketed. He has demonstrated that he is not making a serious priority of paying people back first. And this has dragged on for years. If he hasn't paid most of you back by now, I would strongly recommend someone affected take the initiative of gathering receipts from everyone still owed money and reporting this fraud to law enforcement in the jurisdiction where he lives with thorough documentation.

Yes! That's how I found all the tracks on AKA. (Also where I found an entire early album by a lesser known artist that almost nobody has.)
I talk extensively about how I first got into Lana, Grooveshark, the early days of Lana fandom, and how I became more active in the fandom near the end of the last part of my Lana Del Reydio covers show podcast starting at about 20:17:
#ShamelessPlug
Edit: By the way, anyone else remember fuckyeahlanadelrey tumblr? In the early days, fuckyeahlanadelrey and spillitnow were really the only games in town. At least until LDR.FM launched.
Me, every time I found a Lana track or even a nugget of information. It's such a satisfying feeling.
Though I find her lyrics interesting, I wouldn't say I've ever related to them much or "felt so understood" by them. But otherwise, extremely relatable.
New LFL Demo lyrics inspired this post, huh?
Shoutout to a fellow old-timer.
Oh damn, you're really old-school! In my sleuthing I've stumbled across blog posts from that time that posted Diet Mtn Dew, but I've met few people who can actually trace their introduction to her back that far. Respect.
Because I can't resist a challenge... Anything else you remember about the song or artist or even an idea of what year it was?
