Many good moments on this album. Im constantly going to go back for Lonely Is The Muse, Arsonist, Darwinism and Dog Years. Some of the rest has some annoying laughing and children recordings.

the review was about everything except the music. it was pure yap trash. also anthony fantano gave this album a 1 and said "boohoo you have cancer? get over it". his "review" was equally as bad as pitchfork's if not worse and entirely mean spirited for no reason.

 

its so weird to me that anyone who says "this album is bad" just happens to have a negative bias against halsey and actually don't care about the music that much. but anyway stream the great impersonator

The fantano and P4K reviews make me so unreasonably mad. This isn't the best album of the year, of course, but there are at least 6 tracks on here that are absolutely stellar. I was so shocked on so many moments of the album when she went so far and so personal, revealing her deepest secrets about death, sickness, family trauma. This album is so personal that it feels even uncomfortable to listen to, like you're reading someone else's diary. And yet, you have sick fucks like Fantano and pitchfork who go out saying she's trying to get clout, be some attention seeker???? So what you're saying is she suffered through cancer for our entertainment, so she could make some money??? I don't fucking get it. If I was Halsey, I would never release an album again, but I hope she ignores these rats and knows that she really made something important that resonated with a lot of people. Just needed to soapbox abt that

They are odious. I get not liking Halsey as a person, I am not a fan of her music aside from her rockier sound, but this record is in no way close a one. P4K and Fantano have always had this weird hate towards Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey too, which I am sure they only changed their minds on because it drove their website clicks and because Lana's influence is undeniable. I used to enjoy Pitchfork but they've become a cesspool that thrives on hit pieces that deviate from music criticism and hyper-focus on the artist's personal lives a little too much.

 

It's good that people are lashing out at them. Also, Fantano is an idiot who lets his biases influence his music critiques. I dunno why people enjoy his stuff. He seems like the type of person who interrupts you every other second with shit-tier mansplaining takes. His influence comes from a circlejerk of people who cannot come up with their own opinions re: music.

 

IDK, ganging up on somebody when they share something so profound to them and something that touches such serious subjects is really childish and unprofessional as fuck.

Idgaf about this fuckers opinion, this album is a 10 in my mind! Maybe it could be a little shorter… no interludes and maybe 2-3 tracks less and it would be PERFECT! But as it is it’s great too, just like Stripped 

 

I must say tho… the deluxe tracks eat… HARD! Alice of the Upper Class, Lessons, Nothing, Afraid of the Dark, Charades… hope she releases em on digital form at some point 

 

for me the perfect Tracklist would be:

ps: I get u can have an opinion, and ur entitled to it… but I saw both Fantanos and Pitchforks reviews and to say those things about a person opening up about things so personal… feels… out of touch! They may think they’re edgy but instead they look like idiots to me. Even if u don’t like her as a person (I once didn’t like her either) or think she’s cringe, there’s some lines you shouldn’t cross… it’s almost sociological! Even Fantanos comment section was pointing this out, and that rare since everytime all u can find there are stupid one liners and people licking his pretentious ass

Don't get me wrong I do like the bonus tracks, especially alice of the upper class, but i kinda get why they didnt make standard cut. 

 

also letter to god tracks are the most important and crucial parts of the album tbf. i love how all of them share the repition of "dear god i dont wanna be sick" and then "please god you've gotta be sick" is one of the most intense moments on the entire record for sure

 agree, they're great but i don't feel like they quite fit into the record in terms of its larger narrative.
