i get melanie’s had a ton of inspiration from the early 2000s. Chain mail was a huge thing  early 2000s wise, but this is just really cringey.

this feels like something a 12 year old would make. 

i really come off like an asshole, but if melanie wants to be taken seriously as an artist she can’t be pulling shit like this. doing stuff to try and “boost” streams does nothing but come off childish & make it look like she knows the album she released is shit. 

 

+ i get that the “4 years ago” is a reference to k-12 being released 4 years ago, but it further adds to my theory melanie has sacrificed her story and continuity for aesthetic. Which with her being a heavily concept driven artist, is not the move to do.

 

im really trying to root for her, she has a ton of potential. esp with mm3 leaks, however i feel like she’s stunting herself artistically.

 

 

the portals concept really doesn't sacrifice k12's continuity at all..? like when she jumped off the school she actually died and everything we see after that is her unaware of that fact, entering the portal that is actually the afterlife. that can be confirmed also by the fact that lilith in the middle of the movie didnt let crybaby enter the portal bc she still had things to live.

its not the best told storyline you've ever seen but the continuity is fine

it’s moreso in aesthetic details than hard continuity. tbh it’s more than a nitpick than anything else i’ll admit that.

crybaby’s timeline based off of aesthetics jump from from 1960s, to victorian frilly lolita (style that emerged in the 80s), to 2000s.

i understand aesthetics change and she wants the story to be timeless, but a lot of the jumps just irk me.

as i said more of a nitpick than anything else i’ll be fair.

tunnel vision - removed the pah-pah-ah outro

faerie soiree - inserted the pah-pah-ah as intro

spider web - cut off the outro nature sounds at the end

leeches - inserted the nature sounds at the beginning and took out that muffled mess at the end + the guy yelling

battle of the larynx - cut off the interlude/outro mess

the contortionist - moved the last bit of the BOTL outro (violins) to the intro and cut off the outro

moon cycle - added the intro from the contortionist's outro

nymphology - removed the rap outro

evil - inserted the rap as intro
