lola 6,644 Posted November 24, 2012 I just watched "Donnie Darko" - I'm not sure what to say, I really loved the film, and I'm trying to 'figure it out' at the moment. But I think after one viewing it might just enter my all-time favorite films, something about it really struck me I'm really not into movies but Donnie Darko is one of my absolute favourites 1 Quote Caesar said he’d fall in love with me if I was older. Hellion 993 Posted November 25, 2012 Emily Browning is a goddess. This is my favorite movie. Yas. I hate being that guy (no, I don't) but this is one of those movies that people just didn't get tbqh.

Hellion 993 Posted November 25, 2012 Now onto Lars Von Trier's Melancholia, which initially deterred me because Kirsten Dunst was in it. Funnily enough, this is on right now. Watching despite my shared disdain for Kirsten (and Kiefer).

Sitar 22,218 Posted November 26, 2012 Lindsay's voice in the previews makes me cringe, but I'll be perched in front of the TV just like everyone else.

10milestereo 228 Posted November 26, 2012 Funnily enough, this is on right now. Watching despite my shared disdain for Kirsten (and Kiefer). What did you think? I got interrupted just after the second part started and I was far more impressed than I had anticipated being. I'm looking forward to finishing it. Charlotte, as always, was brilliant and Kirsten was actually quite good. I think I'm going to watch The White Ribbon again soon. It's so hard to watch, but it's truly a masterpiece. Michael Haneke is one of my favorite directors ever.

I'm looking forward to finishing it. Charlotte, as always, was brilliant and Kirsten was actually quite good. I only caught the last forty minutes to an hour, but to be honest, while the cinematography was beautiful, I wasn't all that impressed. Charlotte was good, and I believed her manic state, but Kirsten... gave me one-note, as usual. I'd be willing to see it again in full though, to get a full idea on it. It wasn't bad.

Charlotte was good, and I believed her manic state, but Kirsten... gave me one-note, as usual. I'd be willing to see it again in full though, to get a full idea on it. It wasn't bad. Haha. Together, we've seen the complete film. I'm going to watch it again from start to finish. I really liked the pacing and I thought it was set up quite well from what I saw of it. Kirsten's character became increasingly more unstable. I was really not impressed with her at first, but as it went on, I thought she did pretty well by her standards. I was completely shocked that the cinematography was so polished and that music figured so heavily in it, as it was really a complete break from what I'm used to seeing from him. If you compare Antichrist and Melancholia, it's hard to believe they were directed by the same person. His next one sounds quite interesting and typically controversial. He's working with Charlotte again!
lola 6,644 Posted November 26, 2012 I actually like Kirsten but I hated watching Melancholia. Everything was happening so excruciatingly slow. 2 Quote Caesar said he’d fall in love with me if I was older. I own all of Mexico and I got my own roller-coaster. Cleopatra 1,099 Posted November 26, 2012 I loved her in "Bachelorette". Her character is such a hot mess and a bitch. So good to see her play those kinds of roles. Liz & Dick was corny as are most Lifetime movies BUT LINDSAY LOHAN IS BACK BABY!
10milestereo 228 Posted November 26, 2012 I actually like Kirsten but I hated watching Melancholia. Everything was happening so excruciatingly slow. I agree. The pacing was incredibly slow. I think he was trying to recreate the warped sense of time people suffering from depression tend to have. It went down quite easy after Antichrist, which is probably one of the most difficult (but rewarding) films I've ever seen.
greymillenium 542 Posted November 26, 2012 Even though it's not really film, but more of a mini-series, I've been enjoying "The Kingdom" by Lars von Trier. I ordered the box-set few days ago and watched the first episode with a friend. But I couldn't stop since then... back then in 1994 it was argued it was Denmark's response to Lynch's ( ) "Twin Peaks" and it sort of is. I'm so sad that the series sort of abruptly ended. And some of the actors have passed away. That psychic old lady was so fun. USA even did it's own version of it called Kingdom Hospital. I just watched "Donnie Darko" - I'm not sure what to say, I really loved the film, and I'm trying to 'figure it out' at the moment. But I think after one viewing it might just enter my all-time favorite films, something about it really struck me Did you watch the director's cut? That one made more sense that the original theatrical version. Donnie Darko is in my top 5 movies. There was a sequel that I never watched.

Is it good?
