History was made July 21, 2018 chart, when  Lana's Born to Die  has spent 312 weeks on the chart- SIX FULL YEARS

This thread started back the week of May 27, 2017 Billboard magazine chart issue, when Lana hit 275 weeks

on the Billboard 200 Album charts (this is the every genre, all album, old and new from the first charts to the current chart, best selling)

ON JAN. 16, 2018, FOR THE CHART DATED JANUARY 20, 2018, LANA ACHIEVED HER 300TH WEEK ON BILLBOARD 200 ALBUM CHART.

ON JULY 21, 2018 CHART- LANA NOTCHED THE 312TH WEEK, 6 FULL YEARS ON THE CHART.

background-

Lana Del Rey now proudly is in the Top 25 Albums of all time based on weeks on the chart, six full years

Only 24 albums in history have been on the chart for 300 or more weeks (it doesn't have to be consecutive)

Only 21 albums In history have been on the chart for 312 weeks or more (six full years)

And is now #3 for all female artists, all genres.

This achievement cannot be taken away, each week on the chart adds to the length of time,

and though like in baseball, others may reach the level, each person on the list has achieved history very few have.

nice to see Rick Newells agrees with me

from the above interview-

Where do you feel this album fits into Lana’s catalog overall?

Lana is a career artist, a defining artist of her generation. I see her as a link on the chain along with Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, and all the great once in a lifetime singer/songwriters. She’s created her own language and her own genre. She’s always inspired and actively creating her body of work. This album is her next offering.

Lana is our modern day Edith Piaf. Totally unique. a mixture of Brian WIlson Roy Orbison, Leonard Cohen, Gram Parsons, Elton & Bernie. Born to Die/Paradise is comparable to Elton's Captain Fantastic. All the records need to be listened whole. Waiting for a box set vinyl of all 400 songs not on any lp

Well deserved, on many different levels.

A unique album in terms of production (yes I said it), themes, concepts, and visuals...

Definitely one that had some type of influence on the musical landscape.

Yay BTD !

This has been updated to include the brand new Billboard 200 chart week dated June 17, 2017

Lana's Born to Die now has 278 weeks.

Two interesting notes about this weeks chart-

First, Pink Floyd's Dark Side reenters so it now has 929 weeks

and two,

This was the week Lana was suppose to release originally Lust for Life.

Knowing the sales figues that the surprise drop of Bryson Tiller received debuting at #1 USA

and the fact that SGT Pepper's rerelease (reentered at #3 USA) had a much lower than expected total (with very few streams/downloads)

Based just on Lana's Honeymoon totals, Lana would have definitely debuted at #1 in the USA had it been released this week.

Just an interesting what-if.

anyhow, 278 weeks and counting. About  14 to17 more weeks and Born to Die will be in the Top 20 of all time.

May I ask what the top twenty are currently? Also, aren't there two lists for this (one being for most consecutive weeks and then most weeks non-consecutively)? If so, what's Lana's current ranking on both? (I'm bad with looking this stuff up, everything's so confusing).

@@electra- the Album 200 is for all records weekly old and new, the 200 Best sellers

The longevity is total weeks on the Album 200. And in any week any album can fall off and later reappear doesn't have to be consecutive.

The chart includes all genres, and is an actual true read of the 200 Albums this week and the list is from the 1950s to the present.

(they have specialty charts, but those charts are not necessarily one of the biggest 200, like the Top 50 Vinyl records (but every vinyl record sold

is included in the all inclusive Album 200 (and it's the Album 200 that are considered the Official Charts and there are chart books published and

they only include for albums, the 200 list.)

As I wrote in the OP-

The 275 number would be comparable to a baseball legend hitting 500 home runs

And the list being cumulative, more people will reach 275, same as in baseball, where more people in the future will hit 500 home runs,

but no one can ever take away anyone reaching that level.

(Note- I use baseball stats, because they have been kept since the late 1800s, the list is the list and no one is ever removed from the list for any reason.

It is written in stone. (They do call Billboard the Music Industry Bible.  LOL)

and sometime next spring, Lana willing, Lana  should surpass Carole King as the #2 female album of longevity.

But even if it drops off next week, the 275 level is immortal.

and I specifically waited until 275 weeks to post this thread.

ITunes has their chart, but that only includes of course ITunes. The Billboard200 incorporates all the different methods in one chart.

Probably the only worry would be if Billboard ceased to publish one day in the future and no one bought it and continued it.

That would probably be "The Day the Music Died"
