Yeah but sending hate to Azealia is different to sending hate to Lana because Lana's social networking presence is almost 0. Azealia tweets out all that stuff herself so it's expected that she gets some hate back. Lana literally tweets like once/twice a month and she does nothing to offend people. I don't get people who pick on Lana tbh.
 
I can't stand people who tweet hate for attention in general anyway. That DM is really hilarious though because I can just imagine Lana being all like "fuck this, I am 100% done." At least she doesn't start twitter arguments over social media like Azealia does. She has the integrity to block and move on.

I think the whole concept she puts into her songs could possibly be from the movie Cool World. It has this cartoonist going inside the world he created himself - along with many others creations, there's Holli. I even think her name is inspired by Hollywood, for all of what she is: all caught up in the fame game, as Lana would say. She's like a blonde Jessica Rabbit, not as famous though. She drinks a lot, she smokes her cigarettes, she can be sweet and sexy at the same time (just like the voices and faces Lana does). Holli is like a grown-up Lolita that knows what she can do to get some coins. That, in the case, being her goal to become a real person and have fun probably singing and having fun with men (as shown in the movie, it's the first thing she does when she steps in the real world). She tries to kill anyone who tries to stop her little game. Such a femme fatale. I really think Lana could be into that movie, but it's just what I think about listening to the songs.

Off topic, but in response to your post: I'm not singling you out here, but i hear that explanation a lot--that he was going for a dark/atmospheric sort of vibe on the record--and i don't understand it. What's so dark or moody about Rick James yelling throughout an entire record? You are right that there are so many things to get samples from. But i would take it a step further and say that there are also so many things to get sound from. One need not look toward prerecorded ones. Everywhere you look, all around us, there are interesting, everyday sounds to be found, in plain view, or hidden and waiting to be discovered, or waiting to be created and crafted. I cannot comprehend the concept of lifting entire elements from someone else's work (every single detail about it: the idea itself, the engineering [microphone selection and placement, etc.], the performance and execution, the production, the mix, etc.) when the world is full of endless sound possibilities. How boring can a person be? People like Haynie are, in my opinion, a threat to the art and magic of record production, contributing to its homogenization and degradation, and they're better suited to filing someone's taxes than shaping the sound of someone's record. Good god, can you tell i don't like the guy's work? Ha. 
 
Anyway, i don't want to derail this thread. Back to the good news of a new Lana recording!

Princess Superstar is Concetta Kirschner, a rapper DJ and producer based in New York. She worked with Lana back in 2009, one of the tracks they worked on together (Moi Je Joue) leaked online last year. Lanas video "Born to Die" has now reached the wall of fame at the Vevo headquarters for surpassing 100,000,000 views. Lana will be given an award, and be nationally recognized as one of top and most famous artists in the world.
