Kanye West Is the Best Interview Subject of All Time — A Quote Compilation By Lauren Duca and Jeanette D. Moses    Kanye West conducted a pretty amazing/ridiculous interview with the Timesyesterday, but this isn't his first rodeo . The Yeezus singer has been "forgettingbetter shit than you ever thought of" since at least 2004. Here are nearly ten years worth of absurd quotes and fantastic insights from Kanye West’s favorite rapper, Kanye West.
    On his public persona:
"I get to represent somebody I don’t think is getting represented right now. The regular dude: the guy who believes in God but still likes pussy. You know what I mean? The person that would spend his last [dollar] to try to get a hot car, not the person who says ‘Oh, we don’t buy, we just lease’ or the person who’s like ‘Oh, I have so many cars I could crash a car every day’ and shit." — The Fader,December, 2003
"I'm the rap version of Dave Chappelle. I'm not sayin' I'm nearly as talented as Chappelle when it comes to political and social commentary, but like him, I'm laughing to keep from crying." — Rolling Stone, April, 2004
"I'm a pop enigma. I live and breathe every element in life. I rock a bespoke suitand I go to Harold's for fried chicken. It's all these things at once, because, as a taste maker, I find the best of everything. There's certain things that black people are the best at and certain things that white people are the best at. Whatever we as black people are the best at, I'ma go get that. Like, on Christmas I don't want any food that tastes white. And when I go to purchase a house, I don't want my credit to look black." — Spin, December, 2007
"I’m like a vessel, and God has chosen me to be the voice and the connector." —The Fader, December, 2008
"Someone could be a better rapper, dance better. But culturally impacting? When you look back at these four and a half years, who's the icon at the end of the day? Who broke down color barriers? What other black guy would a white person use as a fashion reference?" — Details, February, 2009
    On his musical legacy:
"Dog, VIBE only gave my album a 4! I know my shit is better than a 4. A horrible album with just ‘Jesus Walks’ on it is a 4! C’mon dog, the demo version was a 5! You need to rate it again, but you’ll have to create a new rating system." — Vibe,April, 2004
"It’s like this, by not giving my album a classic rating, you diminish your magazine’s credibility. And that’s real." — Vibe, April, 2004
"Anyone who doesn't give [The College Dropout] a perfect score is lowering the integrity of the magazine." —  Guardian, August, 2005
"To go gold or platinum to have songs that are respected across the board, to have some sort of influence on the culture and to change the sound of music and inspire up-and-coming artists to go against the grain." — Rolling Stone,February, 2006
"Don't ask me what I think the best song of last year was, because my opinion is the same as most of America's. It was 'Gold Digger.'" — Rolling Stone,February, 2006
[On a line from "Slow Jamz"] "That line made me a star. Before that record came out, I used to go to Virgin Megastore and thank God for those last moments of solitude, because I knew I'd be famous after people heard the Michael Jackson line." — Rolling Stone, September, 2007
"Aw, yeah. I thought that that song could relate to a girl in high school, dealing with people coming down on her. [Sings] 'Everything I'm not made me everything I am.' In my humble opinion, that's a prophetic statement. Gandhi would have said something like that." — Rolling Stone, September, 2007
"There's nothing more to be said about music. I'm the fucking end-all, be-all of music. I know what I'm doing. I did 808s in three weeks. I got it. It's on cruise control ... Man, we talked about music for God knows how long! Now let's talk about how my fucking sweater didn't come back right from Korea. That's what's interesting me." — Details, February, 2009
    On confidence:
"I just think that when my confidence meets other people’s insecurity, that equals ‘Kanye’s arrogant."— Vibe, April, 2004
"Come on now! How could you be me and want to be someone else?" —Guardian, August, 2005
"Earlier today I said a lot of things but those cocky-sounding statements just look better in black and white. That's why they always use them. And I always give it to them. That's why my interviews are so valued. That's why I should get paid." —Guardian, August, 2005
"If I was to say that I hadn't already done all of that, then I'd be on some fake Hollywood bullshit modesty, and that's just plain stupid." — Rolling Stone,February, 2006
    On self-doubt:
"Really good people like me are scared of falling off. I'm totally scared of falling off. Just imagine it. Just imagine if I woke up one day and I was wack. What would I do then?" — Guardian, August, 2005
"And what if I didn't back it up? How exciting would that be, also? It's like I'm walking on this tightrope. It's like the reason why you go to a circus - it's more entertaining. It's like, damn, what if he falls? And if I do make it, it's like, damn, he made it! But either way you're saying 'damn'. Everybody else is just walking on the ground." — Guardian, August, 2005
"There can be a point where your records don't sell as much, or you're not as popular as you used to be. The best thing that any of the Backstreet Boys could have had was a really good woman in their life. I'm sure they had a lot of good pussy, but good pussy is fleeting. What's another word for 'good pussy' that's less vulgar?" — Rolling Stone, September, 2007
    On celebrity:
"This is my problem with interviews, you know? What if you did music, and someone else could come in and change your words around and then release it to the radio? And you ain't even get a chance to listen to it before they dropped it to radio? That's how interviews are! You say what you say and then you get paraphrased." — Slate, August, 2010
"As a celebrity, as soon as you become a star, as soon as it pops off for you? At that point, you stop growing. As soon as you don't have to wash your own dishes any more. I was like trying to get somebody to jog for me the other day." — Hot 97, November 2010
On the Taylor Swift VMAs incident:
"She just talked about how, you know, people would come up to her in the grocery store and really just bring it up, and she would defend me at the grocery store — I'm sorry, defend me in an interview, she said at her grocery store, she was actually defending me. It's an amazing, compelling situation. The situation is bigger to me than the Bush moment." — Hot 97, November 2010
    On relationships:
"I will tell you mad shit about porn, I don't go into depth about me and my fiancée's relationship. 'Fuck you, this is my life.' I dedicate a lot of my time to make music and provide something for the fans that they'll enjoy, but my relationship isn't for the fans to like and enjoy. It's for me to like and enjoy." —Rolling Stone, September, 2007
"What I feel like — 'cause I wanna be married, of course — I feel like the type of girl I would be with is a fellow superhero. So we get that 'already flying and now we're just flying together' thing." — Details, February, 2009
[On whether he was dating Kim] "Pardon me, I'm coughing on the chardonnay I'm drinking out of a plastic cup right now. For those that don't have visuals."Hot 97, November 2010
    On learning:
"There's nothing I really wanted to do in life that I wasn't able to get good at. That's my skill. I'm not really specifically talented at anything except for the ability to learn. That's what I do. That's what I'm here for." — Guardian,August, 2005
"If you read books — which I don't, none at all — about how to become a billionaire, they always say, 'You learn more from your mistakes.' So if you learn from your mistakes, then I'm a fucking genius." — Rolling Stone, September, 2007
    On the competition:
"When I think of competition it's like I try to create against the past. I think about Michelangelo and Picasso, you know, the pyramids." — Slate, August, 2010
[On being insulted by Cam'ron and Jim Jones] "People are not going to agree with everything I do. I look back and look at stuff I do and don't agree with it. Man, if I made a dis record of myself, I would kill me. I would be extremely good at it." — Hot 97, November 2010
    On fashion:
"[On his Jesus ring] I love the way it looks with the blue eyes, but I'll get too much flak for it. I can't explain that blue-eyed shit. I need to do another one. A black one. Because I have socially conscious lyrics and I'm-a get flak." — Rolling Stone, April, 2004
    On porn:
[On telling Radio 1's Tim Westwood the three words that sum up his life were "Louis [Vuitton], porn, and church"] "Well, I spend more time watching porn and praying about it afterwards. Then I'll put on some Louis Vuitton and leave." — Guardian, August, 2005
    On the Grammys:
"Kanye is always opinionated and outspoken, and now that it's Grammy time he turns into a house :)? Come on. That's not even realistic." — Rolling Stone,February, 2006
    On aging:
"Fuck the thirties! I hate my thirties. It's going to take me a while to get used to it. I envy people who like getting older, because I don't." — Rolling Stone,September, 2007
    On AIDS:
"My parents taught me that AIDS was a man-made disease designed to get rid of the undesirable people." — Rolling Stone, February, 2006
    On his sex drive:
"I got into doing beats for the video games I used to try to make. My game was very sexual. The main character was, like, a giant penis. It was like Mario Brothers, but the ghosts were, like, vaginas. Mind you, I'm 12 years old, and this is stuff 30-year-olds are programming. You'd have to draw in and program every little step — it literally took me all night to do a step, 'cause the penis, y'know, had little feet and eyes." — Details, February, 2009
"People ask me a lot about my drive. I think it comes from, like, having a sexual addiction at a really young age. Look at the drive that people have to get sex — to dress like this and get a haircut and be in the club in the freezing cold at 3 A.M., the places they go to pick up a girl. If you can focus the energy into something valuable, put that into work ethic ... " — Details, February, 2009
     On home décor:
[In regard to a life-size poster of himself] "I put me on the wall because I was the only person that had me on the wall at that time. And now that a lot of people have me on their wall, I don't really need to do that anymore." — Rolling Stone, April, 2004

come to think of it, tell me I'm not the only one that has a collection of games that I just could not finish. I mean, I'd get up to so far with some of them and it either turns out I randomly pick really hard games. First there is FF 12 which by god is the hardest Final Fantasy and that happened to be the one I'm stuck on. So if anyone knows anything about FF I'm stuck fighting wolves to level myself up which will take 5 years. Oh then, there's Spiderman 2 (for PS2) and I could never beat the fricking Otto Octavius because his fricking legs beat the shit out of me. Then there's the Alias game which was way back in 2004 it's a good game but I got fed up with this one level even thought that was my favorite show ever when I was younger. Then there was the Spongebob Movie game (god I am sad) and there's the Resident Evil game I forgot which one but that shit was annoying a girl can't take two steps without a zombie person trying to kill them yes that's exactly what I want to do. The only thing I can say I successfully beat and enjoy and it took a while to beat and when I did it felt like glory was the Kingdom Hearts series because the story line made it worth it.

Anyways, this is the story of why you should never get emotionally invested into video games.

Whats up to all the good folks out there of Lana boards. Just wanted to use this story as my introduction to the message board

Been a fan of Lana's music for about year now. & What really got me into her was when i heard Off To The Races. Everything about that record just pulled me in. From her 50-60s adventurous vocal performance, to lyricism, content & just the overall production. She just really gave me an experience. Pretty soon after i started searching the net (youtube, google, & music sites) for anything related to her, and from that point on i couldn't get enough. & It was during this time where i began experimenting with a lot of the stuff i heard from her, being that im producer. Remixing some of the songs that caught my attention. Soon after a couple of the songs that i had worked on and released was noticed & realized by one of the writers, Mike Daly featured on Born To Die. & He showed his appreciation letting me know how much he loved it, and i was extremely humbled and honored. Shortly after, Lana followed me, & i just began to love her even more lol.

  8. Quentin liked a post in a topic by FirstSpider in (Shades Of Cool) The Automobiles Of Lana Del Rey
I'm absolutely obsessed with cars, they're my passion. This thread is to catalogue the cars Lana mentions or uses in songs and videos.

    Cars in songs:

Shades Of Cool - "He Lives In California Too, He Drives A Chevy Malibu"
Lana's referring to the bread and butter midsize sedan, the backbone of the Chevy lineup

You Can Be The Boss - "He has a white corvette like I wanted"
My guess is that the car she is referring to is an Olympic White Corvette, probably a C1, C2 or C3

Hundred Dollar Bill - "Jimmy pulls up in his blue Chevy Nova"
The Blue she is referring to is most likely Danube Blue, or Mist Blue. Probably the 2nd Generation model as it's the most collectible.

National Anthem - "Take me to the Hamptons, Bugatti Veyron"
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know she is definitely talking about the Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4. there have been quite a few different special editions made.

Back To The Basics - "Sit Back In My Pink Cadillac"
I'm assuming the Pink Cadillac would be a reference to Elvis's car which was a 1955 Fleetwood Series 60.

This Is What Makes Us Girls - "Stealin' Police cars with the senior guys"
When Lana was 16 three police interceptors would have been common, the Dodge Intrepid, The Chevrolet Impala, and The Ford Crown Victoria

Golden Grille - "Drivin' in your Escalade"
We all probably know the behemoth Cadillac SUV piloted by rappers, drug dealers and soccer moms everywhere, It's been through 3 generations now. Golden Grille was from 2009 and by then it had entered it's 3rd iteration but as the song is obviously written about an earlier time, and the Escalade in production today was released in 2007, It's very likely a second gen model she's singing about. The first gen was largely playing catch up to the Lincoln Navigator and didn't get to enjoy the sales of it's successors as it was only built for 2 years.

    Jump - "Cadillac convertible"
    Eldorado? DeVille? Allante? XLR? Series 62? it's anyone's guess. It's very likely that it's a 1959 Series 62.

On Our Way - "Kiss me in your Chevrolet"
Another mystery car, It's clearly a convertible as well. Corvette? Nova? Corvair? Bel Air? Impala? Camaro? Blazer? Caprice? There are quite a few possibilities, I like to think it's a Corvair.

White Pontiac Heaven / Axel Rose Husband - Well, she says it in the title...
Again, this could be pretty much any white Pontiac. She does seem especially fond of the Fiero though.

1949 - "We in the Pontiac from July to July"
Same story as WPH and ARH it really could be any pontiac.

Every Man Gets His Wish- "We in the Chevrolet from July to July"
Just like 1949, WPH, and ARH it really could be any Chevrolet.

Driving In Cars With Boys - "Momma's Mercedes or Billy's Pickup Truck"
Who knows what kind of truck she's referring to. Anyone know if her mother drove a Mercedes?

Heavy Hitter - "Open up that Lamborghini"
Once again, this could be any number of Lambos, the Miura, Gallardo, Espada, Countach, Murcielago etc.

Hit & Run - "Pick me up in your white Lamborghini"
Just like HH there are quite a few possibilities for this one

Playing Dangerous - "Let's get in the back of your cop car officer"
Well she doesn't even give us an era for this one, there's no way of knowing what kind of PPV she's talking about.

Come When You Call Me - "White Lincoln Continental"
The Continental nameplate has been used by Ford for their Lincoln brand for 9 generations before it was cancelled, it could be any of these, but I think it's worth noting that she used a white Mark V Continental in the new music video (see photos below)

Hawaiian Tropic - "A bottle of Jack in the Cadillac" "White Corvette under willow trees"
This is the only time she mentions the Cadillac in this song so we have nothing to go on as far as the exact model. It could really be any Cadillac prior to the 2009 Model Year.
The Corvette she mentions is most likely the same one she refers to in You Can Be The Boss

Heartshaped Chevrolet - "kiss me in your Chevrolet"
As the Chevrolet line is the same as in On Our Way it's pretty obvious that the chevrolet she's referring to is the same Chevy Convertible

Hot Hot Hot - "Black tint glass on your cherry red car"
Who knows? It could really be any red car...

Big Bad Wolf - "Escaping in your cherry red car"
    Same as above.

*I have recieved a tip that one of the aforementioned Chevrolets is from the 1967 Model Year*

    Cars In Music Videos:

Born To Die - It appears to be a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 that the couple crashes.

Summertime Sadness - Lana's own 1981 Mercedes-Benz SL is used.

Ride - A 1975 Cadillac Coupe DeVille is driven by the guy who picks her up.

(The car in the Photo is a Sedan DeVille, Just Imagine it without the rear doors)

National Anthem - A 1956 Ford Thunderbird and a 1963 Lincoln Continental Convertible are used, similar to the ones owned by the Kennedy family, as well as a 1950-53 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible.

Blue Jeans (Original) - There is a clip of what appears to be the bonnet of a Jaguar XK 140

Lana Is also shown in a truck in this video. It's a 1955 Chevrolet Apache/Task Force. the grill, bumper and headlight bezels have been painted white. the same truck can be seen in at least one other photo shoot. This particular truck can also be seen on the cover of Born To Die

    Burning Desire - Obviously a Jaguar F-Type

Several AKA Era Videos -  I have noticed more than one Pontiac Fiero in the original Lizzy Grant clips that have leaked. Clearly Lana has a thing for this car.

Diet Mtn Dew 2 - The Ford Del Rey is used. This is where she got the Del Rey script with the three circles. Don't run to the dealer lots just yet, the Del Rey was only available in South America.

Tropico - Lana is seen in a Spring Green, fender-skirted 1952 Chevrolet Bel Air Rat Rod (Potential clue to the song?). In typical rat rod fashion, the car is missing most of its stainless and chrome trim as well as the actual convertible top and frame. the Chrome grill has been painted and the car features a continental kit. She is also seen with a white Lincoln Mark V.

Shades Of Cool - You'd expect Lana to use a Chevy Malibu, since it's what she ints about in the song, but instead her tattoo artist friend pilots a 1967 Pontiac Firebird Convertible.

At one point a 2006 SAAB 9-5 SportCombi makes a came appearance over Lana's shoulder. It's given away by the SAAB signature hockey stick shaped C Pillar and the tiered tail lights

    Cars Lana Owns:

    1981 Mercedes Benz 380SL
As seen in the Summertime Sadness video, Lana has a gold SL class

    Jaguar XK
Lana did the whole horse and pony show on the hood of Jaguar's new little roadster, the F-Type, but she actually owns it's big brother the XK. The XK is considerably larger and more powerful than the F-Type, they actually share the same platform though (The F-Type's was shortened). Lana's XK is in Ultimate Black Metallic.

    Jaguar XJ
This one is important for those of us who don't like in California because the XJ is Lana's preferred mode of transportation. No doubt she owns her own and is seen driving it frequently (All I could find of her driving it were interior shots), but in other places she is almost always driven in one, so If you're at one of her shows and you see an XJ pull up, chances are it's her. Rob Grant also owns one as well. It's Jaguar's full size flagship. Lana appears to have the SWB model. Here's the best photo I was able to find on short notice of Lana with an XJ. You can identify it by its signature teardrop shaped DLO and the Alutian alloy wheels.

I'm sure I missed some, let me know if you have any more information to add or if you know the ones I missed.
We're still waiting to see what new leaks will bring to the table, I guess only time will tell.
  9. Quentin liked a post in a topic by FROGGO in Kanye West
I love Kanye because he never disappoints. This album is shaping up to be something incredible.

I also love everything about this album era. Touching on Sitar's post about finding him obnoxious... I think he is obnoxious (although nearly not as much as it's made out to be, there's a certain amount of swagger and bravado and posturing that's to be expected in the hip hop community), but I think it is excusable given his talent and ingenuity -- he really is that good. I encourage anyone on the fence about him to take the plunge into his Beautiful, Dark, Twisted discography (okay, I couldn't help it) and if you need any recommendations, just post here and ask one of us!

But back to the album era thus far: I love the brevity and minimalism of the entire affair, from the lack of album art to the decision to forgo major promotion (sans SNL) or release any singles... and of course, announcing the album a mere month prior to the release. I don't need an artist to announce an album date 5 months prior to the release and then string us along with teasy interviews or tweets of possible plans that may not even materialize. There's something that is so utterly sincere when Kanye says that he's not interested in radio anymore (or at least, not at this point in his career) -- and it's far more believable than say... someone like Gaga (her pretentiousness is a close match to that of Kanye's), who was obviously still keen for smashes on the charts.

    Let's talk about Yeezy.

His next album Yeezus will be out in 8 days with (rumored) productions and featurings from S1, The Heatmakerz, Skrillex, Rick Rubin, Hudson Mohawke, Daft Punk, Young Chop, Chief Keef, Frank Ocean, Justin Vernon, Travis Scott & King L.

He started to "promote" his album by projecting New Slaves in the streets around the world
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BKGp1XqddM

Then he performed at the season final of the SNL, here's an uncensored version of Black Skinhead (produced by the Daft Punk) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeOKZdgrr6U

Last night at the Governors Ball, he performed two new songs : On Site (rumored to be produced by the Daft) and I am a God

Yeezy said some words about the promotion of this album last night : "Honestly, when I listen to radio, that ain't where I wanna be no more. At this point, I could give a fuck about selling a million records, as long as I put out an album that you can rock to all motherfucking summer." 23. Quentin liked a post in a topic by Sitar in Lana Del Rey Interviewed By 102.1 FM: The Edge
A Dallas radio station interviewed Lana on the phone while she was in Brussels: http://www.kdge.com/pages/diva.html?feed=136969&article=11349400

    Some highlights:
    - She confirms that "Young and Beautiful" was written for The Great Gatsby and therefore eligible for awards and stuff.
    - She talks about her influences, namely Kurt Cobain and Marilyn Monroe.
    - She shows astonishment at the interviewer actually doing her homework.
    - She literally says that she's planning a US tour. OUT LOUD.
    - Said interviewer inquires about "Puppy Love", and Lana says she loves the song and (probably jokingly) that an album called The Leaked Sessions (or something) would be a good idea. Claiming her over 120 leaked songs were meant for other artists or later use.

So I guess "Gogo Dancer" was gonna come out in 2020. Huh, after all this time
She's laughing with us She doesn't hate her leaks that much #LeakMaha
