This gives me chills. Only listened to second verse and chorus for now but the delivery is incredible. The fact that this is not a basic typical love song makes me extremely happy

This is starting to sound more and more likely. Subversive doesn't exactly mean 'wrong' though. If someone takes a subversive road it means what they do is breaking down the normal, accepted structure of things, like politics and society. And Lana is very inspired by people with strong beliefs who do things unconventionally.
It does sound quite believable for it to sound like a dark spooky Honeymoon... I could see it as a love song for someone who is very focused on Anarchy in a freedom sort of way.
  3. Jazzmin liked a post in a topic by delreyfreak in IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT LDR5 MATERIAL
Although I understand her managers' concerns for the era and the single, I'm sorry to say, but if they had actually taken more care in protecting Lana's work then this never would have happened. Considering Lana generally only works with a handful of people on each album so there's really not that many people who even have access to the material, it's utterly insane that her managers can't even protect her work.

I agree that we should prevent any leaks being spread around this forum but at the end of the day, the only ones to truly blame for all of this mess are her managers. If they actually cared about Lana's work then none of this would be happening. Messy stans will always be messy, no matter how many times they are told not to leak stuff and spoil surprises. Lana's managers should know this by now, particularly considering Lana has a sort of cult following with a lot of unstable and over the top fans. I mean, her "fans" have stolen her car, camped out in her garage and even broken into her house.

I'm not trying to justify the ugly and disrespectful behaviour of people spreading things around, all I'm trying to say is that her label is completely to blame for all of this and it's a joke that they are only taking action now, once a bajillion snippets have been leaked and a still and a full portion of the music video is being spread around. The damage is done now and Lana's managers should truly be ashamed for how poorly they have "managed" her work.

Trying to frame LanaBoards as the culprit of all this mess is immature on her label's behalf, since it is their fault they couldn't secure the material. All that happens on here is people discuss material obtained from outside sources that has spread over all corners of the internet. Of course, it is in Lana's best interest for all of us to stop the spread of her material on here, but at the end of the day, her label needs to take responsibility for what has happened and acknowledge that they have let Lana down.

omg thank you so so so so so so so so much everybody who voted me for Most Underrated Member! I am SHOOK!!! I cannot believe I actually won an iconiquè Lipsters Award! I honestly was not expecting that all so THANK YOU, THANK YOU and THANK YOU!!

You are all such amazing people and I have literally never left this website without vomiting of laughter (or actual vomiting, like when those repulsive scat gifs infiltrated the pre-release HM thread  ). All jokes aside, this is an amazing community that I love being a part of and I would be so bored and out of the loop with Lana news if it weren't for coming here literally 500 times a day!
Actual footage of me right now....

Melanie has actually said she's funding these videos herself to finish them all and that would be insane to have the whole album as a visual piece except one song (ignoring bonus tracks, which don't fit into the album storyline).
  8. Jazzmin liked a post in a topic by Escapism in Melanie Martinez
I'm kind of excited for the Mad Hatter video but at the same time I feel like she might overdo the "I'M CRAZY" mindset, I understand it's apart of the character and it's supposed to be exaggerated but like yikes (looking at the perfume milk commercial and alphabet boy). It just seems super tryhard sometimes, i guess and I don't see the point of it being used as often as it is which is probably why I dislike it sometimes.
I do hope that she goes down the American Mcgee Alice route if she wants to make it creepy, I think it could really work.

Radio is not as conservative as you say it is lmao...Pumped Up Kicks is about a guy shooting his classmates and it got massive airplay. You have a shit ton of songs by male and female artists alike with rather obvious double-entendres. S&M by Rihanna, several Nicki Minaj songs, Mike Posner's I Took a Pill in Ibiza.
...Cola is harmless. Replace Pussy with "my lips they" and you're fine. Brooklyn Baby could have replaced the hydroponic weed line with the line from the first chorus.

West Coast was a pretty big hit here. Maybe not so much on the charts but it got a lot of airplay on the radio. So many non-Lana fans I know love that song.

Lana Del Rey killing her career in 2014.

So, we all know Lana's last true hit was "Summertime Sadness" from her cult record Born to Die... three years ago. After that, she absolutely gave up on promotion, TV interviews, live-streamed shows and even singles (realistically, she released only two real singles in the past two years).

What post-Born to Die singles/album tracks do you think had chances to become moderate/big hits? Did she become slower and less commercial, hence the lack of success on radio/streaming?

In my opinion, "High By the Beach" could have been a huge hit. It just needed a little promo, some radio deal and it should've been released earlier. Also, "West Coast" was incredibly acclaimed, it could have been her "Let It Happen" or "Do I Wanna Know?".

  18. Jazzmin liked a post in a topic by annedauphine in What does Ultraviolence mean to you?
I think it's a big part of why I love it so much, I particularly enjoy music that tells a story and I can't help but think of UV as something like the soundtrack to a movie, the trailer video is one of my fav Lana vids ever because it synthetises this, like it's a story in black and white that could be a documentary à la Let's Get Lost or a sort of film noir that tells the boredom and the escapades of a fallen rich starlet in Los Angeles nights. It could be Lana how she dreams herself to be mixed to who she really is, inspired by her own life, it could be someone totally else, romanticized, it could be something else totally, but for me, rearranged or not, the whole album is a story that makes sense in any way it's looked at. Some songs feel like a drug trip, some like sex, some like depression, some like boredom, some like ecstasy, and it's them all put together that makes the beauty of the album. I said it before but each song as its place, I can't imagine UV without like Flipside, and I think that musically it's one of the extremely rare Lana songs I don't care about. I can count on my fingers the number of albums that have this cohesiveness. It takes all the violent and numb aspects of a restless mind and mixes it all in a swirl and the rawness of the voice, the repetitive lyrics as well, the bare boned production all contribute to it intrisincally. It's not just my favourite album because of the music, it's because the aesthetics, the red line, it just falls into place with extreme accuracy in regards of the overall vibe. It's not one aspect, as Paradixo was saying, it's several aspects that completely stand by themselves separately but create an immense work when put together. I could talk about it endlessly, I discovered Lana with West Coast and Money Power Glory and this album changed my life forever
  19. Jazzmin liked a post in a topic by delley in What does Ultraviolence mean to you?
But for being serious now, I really think like UV is about summer, tough love and being limitless. Especially West Coast which shows us how nice it is to be in love, especially when it gets very hot.
Pretty When You Cry is a nice song too, because at least for me it imitates how people need you, only when they have no one else around and we are just pretty in their eyes, when they need somebody for a moment, to make themselves better. um, Shades Of Cool is a very intense, when you're one of the many, and yet you remain the best of them. Brooklyn Baby is about her and Berrie which is my OTP and I will love this song for it forever so maybe it's a song about how good relationship is, when you meet your soulmate? UV shows itself how desperate we are for love, like literally we do everything just to be in it. Basically this record gives me attitude like I am the dragon and the others are just whores. Hope I helped. x
  20. Jazzmin liked a post in a topic by PARADIXO in What does Ultraviolence mean to you?
I think it's about her feelings towards the two most important/relevant things in her life back then - her career and Barrie. Those two themes are all over the record; she's being sarcastic and plays with the media/critics acting the way they negatively described her (Brooklyn Baby, Money Power Glory...) but at the same time she's suffering over this depressed man and she loves him so much to the point the absolute sadness becomes mutual (Black Beauty, Is This Happiness, Shades of Cool...). I don't think Ultraviolence is a concept album though. These two topics aren't the only ones; her past is still an important subject throughout the project-- West Coast, Old Money, the title track, etc. It's much more conceptual sonically. It's angry (hence the dark and dense atmosphere, the heavy drums on Cruel World or Pretty When You Cry) and basically about being completely lost and mind-altered by the plurality of things happening at the same time (hence the elements of psychedelia, a genre that tries to go deep into the human psyche and emulates the effects of multiple drugs: a constant metaphor on Ultraviolence).

For a project I'm working on, I'd love to hear your conspiracies and ideas about what you think the album Ultraviolence is about. Do you think there is a cohesive story throughout the album as it is, or do you think that when the tracklist is rearranged it is more cohesive? I'd love love love to hear what you think as the album to me remains very mysterious

Germany can be proud of the way they reacted to the refugee situation. Many people have been helping them voluntarily!
People tend to confuse the cause and effect in this context: Refugees left their countries because of the terror people are experiencing there. Why do people blame them? They are the victims.

    Your last phrase fits perfectly!
  23. Jazzmin liked a post in a topic by Thunder Revenant in Berlin Christmas Market Attack
That's bullsh*t. Do you really think these people come here and then suddenly decide "oh well, why not start a terror attack and kill some people"?

Germany, just like France, are western countries that are "interesting" for those terrorists. Do you really think they would just get here as refugees on accident? Do you not think they have ways to get people into the country to do things like that any way? Do you not think that there are "members" of ISIS here that are native germans?

And all of this "Danke Merkel!" talk is just pathetic Trump-level sh*t. Of course refugee politics and the integration of refugees should be discussed, but what do you want? Horst Seehofer politics?
So many people alking about "western values" that need to be protected when they don't seem to have them themselves,

Sorry, I think you must have missed my point. Also, keep in mind that I might not be able to express myself flawlessly as English is not my mother tongue, but I'll try to explain anyway.

Of course people dying is the worst thing that could possibly happen, there's no doubt about that. Germany and all the other countries that have been affected by terrorist attacks have had a really hard time and I think there's almost no one who hasn't been affected by this or hasn't felt deep grieve. Our beliefs and lifestyle have been attacked by an extremist group who doesn't only hurt our western beliefs and culture, but also their very own people. Refugees who come to Germany have been through a lot. Do you even know how much harassment by right-winged parties they have gone through besides the trauma they already had? Most teenagers and kids who came here lost their families. In big and international cities like Berlin it's mostly alright in terms of accepting refugees, but in small towns like my hometown in the north, people burned down refugee centers and right-winged parties have demonstrated with torches. Sadly, some people who claim to be refugees aren't and do things that damage the image of the people who actually need help and want to integrate. I fully agree with you that the asylum procedure is flawed, I never claimed that it wasn't. There should have been more thorough controls before letting in so many people all at once. This didn't only allow extremist to enter but also created huge problems because authorities simple didn't know how many people exactly needed help. This isn't about hurt feelings. It's about innocent people who truly need help and want to start over here have bigger problems integrating because a small group of people intentionally do crimes and they get blamed as the culprits. You can't deny that they have a very very hard time here, trying to carry on after all that happened and having to deal with so much prejudice. And again, I didn't mean to downplay the horrors of what has happened. I simply tried to state that sadly not only innocent people had to give their lives away, but also that a group of people who didn't have anything to do this will have an even harder time now. Refugees ≠ Terrorists.

And sorry to say it like that, but if there was anything you didn't agree with in my initial post, you could have tried to phrase it a tad bit more friendly. There's no need to be passive-agressive and try to pick a fight. I don't like it when my words get twisted.

@sexwithme yes, that's the populist far right take on it. their goal is either to acquire power or force a shift to the far right of government policies. this is similar to the kind of thinking that elected Trump. we have to resist it, not give in to it. like, we (europe) have a humanitarian catastrophe at our doors, and one that we + america essentially created. there is no other choice but to take refugees in.
