  1. What are your favourite rock albums of the year? I am still so obsessed with Bring Me The Horizons 'amo'. I'd say it's my #1 of 2019 all together. Next I'd say Resist from Within Temptation. That one got me by surprise.

A big problem I have with the production is that it doesn't increase and get better throughout the song. The vibe stays the same throughout the whole song and there's not much to look forward to after the first chorus. There are still some cool moments that I love in K-12 tho. Teachers pet: "you don't own me. I bet you think you do, well you don't" reminds me of "your mother said to pick the very best girl, and I am" in Tag You're It, and I guess that song is TYI's equivalent, but nowhere near as good. Show & Tell sorta feels like Dollhouses equivalent (being on display, perfect on the outside but going through hell on the inside) and I like that a lot because imo they rival each other as good songs cause S&T might be the best from K-12, I can't decide yet. Some songs give me a strong colour association- Strawberry Shortcake (pinks), Teachers Pet (deep velvet maroon and dark pink), Show and Tell (royal purple) which is cool and I love that in songs. Lunchbox friends gives me a pastel yellow too
  3. Clementine sounds like some sappy song of a sad or romantic scene in a TV drama show and im not feeling it. It reminds me of that awful song used in New Moon where Bella is depressed looking out the window for months. It would have been better if she cut the main vocals and just went with the background ones.

Remember how (when explaining the meaning behind Alphabet boy) she was talking about not following the 'formula' and 'rules' of making a song? Well it seems to me like she threw all of that out the window for K-12 because the formula of those songs are the epitome of generic. And if she thinks adding some unexpected noises here and there like random background banging, telephones ringing, writing on a chalk board, coughing, sneezing and scraping makes her production more improved/genius and her best work yet, well.... i don't think she understands what her fans loved about her first album so much. Crybaby was cohesive in the way that it made such a good story and each song was so individual, even the instrumentals themselves told a story. Highlights of that album were... every second of every song tbh, and I remember having to take it slow getting to know the album cause it was all so good I couldn't handle it. But with K-12 it's cohesive in the way that we can't even remember certain instrumentals from the album, and the highlights of the album are what? one or two songs that still don't match the production she used to have? I hope we do get the K-12 instrumentals though, cause I'm begging for something to change my mind. I want to do a full on analysis of the album like I usually do but I feel like I just don't have enough to go on. This album hasn't been enough for me:/
  5. The second episode felt super short and I hate it when they end on such a 'cliff hanger' when really i couldnt care less.

Mel saying that K-12 has a more mature sound is the total opposite to what I hear. Just because the character is supposed to be more mature, doesn't mean the lyrics and production are. Sorry, i really can't get my head around this.

I relate to more songs on K-12 but I don't like things to be spelled out exactly the way they are. Her Crybaby songs had a much broader range of lyrics and it wasn't so obvious where the songs were going, and I think that's what enchanted us so much. With K-12 it's just like "yeah we get it, been there, whats next?"

At the end of the movie when the bubble with the school inside bursts into the pink cloud (Crybaby's magic) I think it would have been nicer if it burst into a pink AND blue cloud since the guy was also half of the effort, and then the cloud should have blended to become PURPLE to symbolise a mixture of duality, bringing two sides together, you can do greater things when working together, etc.
  9. Yes takes me back to her Honeymoon and Paradise vocals
  10. I had this thought too. I thought maybe she's acknowledging that it takes 2 people to ruin a relationship, and it's not scrapping the original lyrics but coming back to them with a clearer head. Except when she was asked in a recent interview, she only said she changed the lyrics to make it fit on the album more, and didn't say anything about a change of heart or changed perspective.

I sorta agree. Yesterday I admitted to myself that Crybaby at least is far better than K-12, and even my favourites from K-12 aren't in the same league as my least favourites of Crybaby.... The only one that gives me the joy and curiosity that Crybabys songs did is Show & Tell but I'd still rather just replay CB for another 4 years tbh. And talking about production: Crybabies was just so interesting and unique and fun. K-12s is nice... But that's about it. I listen to CB instrumentals all the time cause it's that brilliant but I have no desire to hear k-12s instrumentals. Yes, k-12 is more 'mature' but CB was far more outstanding and K-12 seems like a downgrade. I'm interested to hear which parts exactly in k-12 Melanie thinks are her best work yet, because I can't pick any.
  12. A one-word change like that is fine and it doesn't take me out of the song. I was talking about entire line changes like "Boys don't make too much noise on twitter cause it's not funny" "I've been trying too hard... my only one-hit song". And whatever the hell she just sang in TNC live with Sean Ono Lennon, which reminds me how she also changed "Baby you have to forget, and i have to move on" to that retched line that we all know in the official LFL version. Yes that one-word change was great!
  13. The download link I got from buying the vinyl has TNBAR named as "The Next Best American Record (Standard Production Master)" and FIILY as "Fuck it I love you- RE1" while all the other songs are just their titles. Anyone know what's up with that?
  14. I don't like how Lana changes the lyrics while singing live. It catches me off guard and takes me out of the song.
  15. I like them together on stage. This feels much more alive than the studio version.
  16. Yeah that does come through. Even when she's trying to get political, she basically just whispers her answers to those questions and can't answer with a firm "this is what I believe/what I'm fighting for", like she wants to remain ambiguous but with little hints of giving a fuck. I sometimes give her shit for not standing her ground but it probably is that trauma.
  17. I think she totally missed the point when she said her huge fanbase comes from the connection she has to her young female fans. That's not even half the truth. And she barely interacts with her fans when compared to a lot of other singers- most even.
  18. Within Temptation and Evanescence touring together and of course nothing this good ever comes to Australia
