I know that you were just kidding but it got me thinking about how much we need proper bridges on this album. None of the 4 songs we have so far have the classical verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus structure. They all kinda stop after the second chorus and a somewhat short outro. Mostly, this has been the case since Norman Fucking Rockwell, except for songs like Dance Till We Die or Not All Who Wander Are Lost, but even for the songs on Chemtrails which do have a bridge, it usually has the same chords, or even the same lyrics and/or melody as the verses, which used not to be the case up until Lust For Life. So I'm hoping that listening back to her older unreleased songs made her realize how cool having proper bridges is, and how she needs to bring them back I mean the bridge is arguably the best part of most of her older songs

not me thinking for a second there was a chance people would answer my posts about the unknown tracks instead of fighting -
This time around, I think she had a lot of freedom in picking the songs she wanted to have on the record. Otherwise, she couldn't have scrapped half of them as she did in June. That's notably because she didn't spend the past year teasing them on Instagram. I mean, there were probably dozens of NFR outtakes - there were 129 songs made for LFL, and there was even more time between LFL and NFR than between Honeymoon and LFL - but there was no room for them when she made the final tracklist. There were already 12 songs she had teased (although that's when we got the preorder, but it's true that we didn't know about The Greatest and Fuck It I Love You by the time she was making the final tracklist). And we would've been unhappy if she had scrapped some of them although that didn't prevent her from scrapping Yosemite and Dealer but maybe she wanted to, because she had grown tired of them, and liked some other songs more. This time, she had no such commitment to respect, and I think such freedom in the picking makes for an amazing album

Another element that makes me think that tracks 5 to 8, or at least some of them, are upbeat, is the diversity that there usually is in her long records. Ultraviolence (standard version) and Chemtrails are, in my opinion, her most homogenous albums (the first one has dominant electric guitars and slow drums, the second one has dominant piano and country twangs). They're also her shortest. On the contrary, Lust For Life, Norman Fucking Rockwell and Honeymoon, which are considerably longer, each encompass a wider range of genres. That's why I think Lana is going for an album with diversity this time as well. I can't see the 15 songs being ballads, especially if she wants to explore the depths and the complexities of what her own story is made of. And given how the unreleased songs she picked are either acoustic or rock-sounding - she didn't pick any of her hundreds of unreleased bops, although she could have, even though they're not deemed as legitimate as most of her work - I'm thinking they might also be there to balance the upbeat songs that might be there between Arcadia and Dealer.

I have to say it's really exciting not knowing what any of the remaining 5 tracks sounds like. We have no production credits, we have no insider information, we have none of the information Lana herself usually gives in interviews, we have no snippets from her Instagram account. We don't even have lengths. And I don't think statements like "a collection of beautiful ballads" or "probably mostly piano" are good indicators, because the direction of the album was changed since they were made and they were really vague to begin with. Several elements make me think that quite anything is possible. Text Book had a Honeymoon-like production, in the sense that it was meticulously crafted, slightly mysterious, it actually had density. It also had a somewhat catchy beat. I was surprised when I heard it, because it was nothing like a piano ballad, and nothing like Chemtrails either. But the interlude is what really makes me think that something upbeat might be coming afterwards, which is reinforced by Black Bathing Suits being explicit. The following titles give no indication as to the sound of the songs they correspond to, in my opinion, but I think there might be a pattern of slow songs then upbeat songs from track 5 to track 7-8 like on Lust For Life or Honeymoon, so they could be that, building up some energy and transitioning into the rockier part of the record (Dealer/Thunder), ending with acoustic songs which might have been reworked, and mysterious Sweet Carolina. All those songs could also be country as far as we know. They could be upbeat songs, or jazzy songs. Maybe even rock songs, as some of them were done with Dawes. There's literally no telling, because any of those genres could work with her telling her own story. I think that's the first time we have so much mystery surrounding the unknown songs Despite all the songs we know about, there are also more songs whose existence got revealed by the tracklist than usually (5 on Chemtrails including For Free, 2 on NFR, 4 on LFL). Actually Honeymoon had 9-10 songs we didn't know about, and Ultraviolence a lot too, but that was long ago.

I can't help but wonder why she put Dealer on this album. Did she feel like she had to, because she had told us it might be on Chemtrails? I think one of the reasons why she added Yosemite to Chemtrails and not one of the 129 other Lust for Life outtakes was because she knew the fans were eager to hear it. Or did she really feel like Dealer was part of the story she wanted to tell us?

when i saw the tracklist, i was struck by how she put all the unreleased songs at the end of the album. i would've bet that they would be at the beginning because this album is about her telling her story, and it seems to me that it makes more sense to tell it chronologically. but maybe she feels that there's not much to be added after nectar of the gods, living legend and cherry blossom. after all, those songs, despite being written in 2013, have hopeful lyrics which display carefulness to the world and to her surroundings, interest in the simple things of life. it would have been weird to put pretty when you cry or your girl at the end of blue banisters, but as it turns out, i think it makes great sense that she put living legend and cherry blossom there.

as if saying "at least make an effort if you're gonna criticize someone's way of speaking a language" were an insult like "go suck your mom and shut the fuck up is", or an insult at all -

it's actually not a matter of arguing, it's a matter of one user in here thinking it's okay to tell someone else (me, actually) "go suck your mom and shut the fuck up" or to mock someone else's way of speaking a foreign language saying they're a pain in the ass i personally won't stand for it -

no one is telling you what to believe though, it's the exact opposite -
the four singles are really, really good, and are completely devoid of the muffled, watered-down tone the songs Jack produced had, but to me, text book really stands out. it's actually such a serene song, it has this vibe of accepting exactly how sad one's own past was, the ways in which it shapes one's present, but such honesty leads to a hopeful, appeased outlook on things. it means healing thanks to some people you meet along the way, whom you can open up to, who will bring you the things you couldn't find yourself. the lyrics from the chorus, when she speaks of her family to her lover, although seemingly somewhat incoherent, break my heart everytime. the melody and production are gorgeous and fit the theme perfectly.
