Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread
IanadeIrey replied to Elle's topic in Retired Pre-Release Threads
Another exciting speculation: she has nothing that we know of happening between now and June 22nd (Dublin show). Think about it; each month we've gotten something: September Mariners Apartment Complex BBC Radio 1 Interview with Annie Mac Venice Bitch Beats Radio 1 Interview with Zane Lowe - album title revealed Poetry book discussed in both interviews October a How to Disappear snippet 2nd snippet of Happiness is a Butterfly 4 snippets of Cinnamon (2 posted as clips, 2 on her story) a "hope is a dangerous thing..." snippet (referred to as Sylvia Plath) Instagram live where she previewed the production of How to Disappear Apple event where she performed How to Disappear and Venice Bitch November Gucci Guilty launch party Gucci LACMA event Breakthrough Prizes event December Ally Coalition Talent Show with Jack - 2 new country/folk songs premiered British Fashion Awards event Instagram live where she told us the album is done + more info regarding the album cover January A snippet of a song dubbed "In Your Car" posted Extended snippet of "hope is a dangerous thing..." posted + confirmation of poetry book nearing completion hope is a dangerous thing... released + new press release about mid-2019 release 3rd snippet of Happiness is a Butterfly posted Gucci Guilty campaign launched February interviews for Gucci Guilty discussing sound of the album + 13 tracks in total Poems from the book posted on Instagram March Poems from the book posted on Instagram + update about binding it soon BUKU festival April/May (hypothetical) Lead single - most likely Happiness is a Butterfly - released with music video Magazine covers/interviews (we know one with Steven Klein for V Mag could be coming soon) Maybe new snippets posted Tracklist + cover art + release date revealed Maybe one more song released before the album Maybe poetry book released (most likely late April, May, or early June so album can come out in mid-late June) June Album released Festival dates (https://lanadelrey.com/live/) + misc. promo July Festival dates + misc. promo This makes sense, as we have 2 and a half months until her next announced endeavour. This seems realistic based on what she's said and it stays true to what she's known to do. It also is still very lowkey as she said she plans to do for this album. -

True, but that means we can expect the lead single soon! By May the latest, probably -

I think the album is probably coming in June since a lot of her festivals are in late June/July. https://lanadelrey.com/live/ Lust for Life was released on July 21st and Lollapalooza Paris was on the 23rd with a lot of festivals in August. The earliest announced date is June 22nd in Dublin so I believe the album is coming June 14th or more likely, June 21st. -

http://www.chartsinfrance.net/Lana-Del-Rey/news-109083.html Album is coming between May and July according to a Canadian press release. How valid could this be? -

I could see her throwing it onto the record with maybe some additional production from Jack added onto the original Rick mix as a little treat/surprise for the fans. Could be why she hasn't teased any studio snippet of it! -

I thought it would be cool if they were, with psychedelic production, imagine that! Roses Bloom For You and Yosemite, I feel like there's a 10% chance they'll appear, I'm not too hopeful either -

Just thought it'd be fun to discuss the potential tracklist! I could see it starting with songs about relationships, with MAC serving as the transition between relationships and personal growth. There were 11 tracks originally, and between September and December, she added 2 new songs (revealed in February in a Gucci Guilty interview) so I'm wondering if they're the country songs from Jack's show with updated production. I remember a fan said she thought about releasing them since everyone said they liked them. I threw RBFY and Yosemite on there because she teased RBFY in Dec. 2017 and Yosemite is bound to "find a home" (and also I needed another track title to make 13) and she said the last tracks have a rock feel so I think IMBSFBSS and Yosemite could potentially have those undertones with new production, and obviously VB is 10 min. long and feels very rockish so it'd be the perfect closing track! 1. In Your Car 2. Happiness is a Butterfly 3. Hey Blue Baby 4. Bartender 5. Cinnamon 6. Norman Fucking Rockwell 7. Mariners Apartment Complex 8. How to Disappear 9. hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have - but i have it 10. Roses Bloom For You 11. Yosemite 12. I Must Be Stupid For Being So Happy 13. Venice Bitch -

I see what you mean and I love it! To be honest, I think Lana's more moodier albums are really suited for that beautiful spring description and the California culture throughout summer description you talked about. I personally don't mind the wait but I understand that a lot of people would prefer it to come out earlier -

So nice of you to say, as always! Thank you And yeah, I feel like this album is a mood record where everything about its visuals/timing affects its listen! Kind of like literary theory, where when you approach a written work through a specific contextual lens, the meaning is altered. -

Maybe the wait seems a bit long, but Lana has always been strategic with the feeling her listeners get while listening to the music. She is known to talk about the weather in her songs, and I think the album is coming out in either June or August/September for this reason: Born to Die - released in late January - perhaps for commercial reasons, but the album was very "fresh" and its beats were very "sharp" - much like the sharp, cold air of winter; was also a New York album, and I can see snowy buildings in NY being associated with that early BTD era. Paradise - released in November - again, perhaps for commercial reasons, but something about songs like Ride/American/Yayo feel very comforting and "classic" for Lana - much like the comfort and class of the holidays(?) Ultraviolence - released in mid-June - the album is so summery, full of desert-y guitars and a vocal effect that reminds me of the thick, humidity of summer. This one is very obvious. Honeymoon - released in mid-September - summer was winding down as HM was released, and I feel because this album was so "moody," the change in weather between summer and fall mimics that. Lust for Life - released in mid-late July - this album has a lot of "firey tracks" according to Lana and the juxtaposition between folk and hip-hop feels like a blend between what Lana is known for - this album is also very fun and summer feels that way; it makes sense that LFL was released in the middle of Lana's favourite month. Norman Fucking Rockwell - I think will come out between June 21st and September 20th - so far, MAC and VB feel very "pacific coaster" and the natural and organic feel to the music, visuals, and her look remind me of either when summer is just beginning, or when summer is winding down. Again, like Honeymoon, when seasons are transitioning. VB and MAC seem to be the most representative of at least one sound on the album so far, and I feel like their timing was so perfect in conjunction with the weather/seasons/time of year. For that reason, I won't mind if the album comes out a whole year after the first 2 singles. Imagine going to a beach on a stormy but still warm night in early/mid September and listening to the NEW album. Hopefully that helps justify the wait a bit! -

Honestly, I could see the album coming out anytime between June 21st (which could be cool since it's her birthday/a Friday) and September 20th. -

EDIT: NVM, I googled "Lana Del Rey live" to see her next dates and found a show on March 27th that nobody knew about but upon further research, it is fake lol -
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, maybe!

I haven't been on here since the 2 singles were released, but I just wanted to say that I love them so much, as well as the snippets she put out! I really like the sound/visuals she's been going for this era and I am so excited! -
Aww, thank you so much!
-
You know it, sis
-
I am so excited! I love the minimalist feel she seems to be going for this era and the stripped-back, folkish sound!
-
Will do! Thank you so much!

I love every song on this album so much, so each song is really close to each other in terms of ranking, but in my opinion: 1. Everytime 2. God is a Woman 3. R.E.M. 4. Sweetener 5. Breathin 6. Better Off 7. Successful 8. No Tears Left to Cry 9. Borderline 10. Raindrops 11. Get Well Soon 12. Pete Davidson 13. Blazed 14. The Light is Coming 15. Goodnight n Go - I know this is the popular favourite but it feels very "remix-y" to me which is not my favourite sound but I still love the song

Yes! Imagine her in the LFL album trailer outfit with that blackboard at the end of it! -
I can see that. I am not-so-secretly hoping for a folk-ish album. I really think Lana can explore so much untouched territory with her music by going in that direction - it's a versatile genre with a lot of different sounds. I guess the album tracks on the record could take a more vintage, Honeymoon meets Joan Baez in the 70's approach, whereas the "singles" or "commercial hits" could take an acoustic pop approach (I was thinking of "Sometimes" by Ariana Grande. I really like that song and I think if Lana were to make a folk record with some poppier tracks, that sound would be a contender. It meshes a nice chill hip-hop beat with an acoustic guitar. And that Ariana song is so dreamy too, which is so Lana ).
-
What sonic direction does everyone think LDR6 will take? At this point, there are so many things she could explore - based on the lyrical themes of Change/Get Free, the album could take a more stripped back, organic approach, but based on her attitude and style during the LA to the Moon tour, I could see it incorporating elements of mainstream pop music, especially harder beats. What do you all think?

Honeymoon - the album by Lana Del Rey

I've been watching a lot of videos from the Dangerous Woman tour recently, and I have to say, I really liked her style and the way her shows were set up. I can see the slight influence Lana got for the LA to the Moon tour dynamic from watching Ariana concerts before the show!
