Lust For Life - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
IanadeIrey replied to Elle's topic in Post-Release Threads
Aw, thanks! I love reading yours too! And definitely, regarding BPBP and LFL - I feel like the twinkling piano notes in LFL are a good way to introduce the heavy use of piano in BPBP. And yes, after it was pieced together what events in Lana's life were alluded to in Heroin, it would make so much sense for Heroin to be track 13, now that you've said that. I really hope Yosemite is on LDR6 - hopefully isn't changed at all or too much to fit the new record, because I would love to hear how it was intended to sound on LFL. -

That's really cool to hear. I love LFL the way it is now but I think your tracklist order is something I'd ought to try out, just to see how it flows! It sounds pretty solid based on your reasoning I wonder how different LFL would be if she didn't have the "fiery tracks" that were added with the extension of the record. I see it going something like this, more folklike - 1. Love 2. Best American Record 3. 13 Beaches 4. Groupie Love (feat. A$AP Rocky) 5. Lust for Life (feat. The Weeknd) 6. Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems (feat. Stevie Nicks) 7. Coachella - Woodstock in My Mind 8. When the World Was at War We Kept Dancing 9. God Bless America 10. Tomorrow Never Came 11. Yosemite 12. Heroin - although your note about Rob's favourite number being 13 is really clever, I really like that! 13. Change 14. Get Free EDIT - it's not that different from yours, but lol -
I would love the album photoshoot to be on a beach. Maybe placement like this - https://www.instagram.com/p/BVK_kuxnRS_/?taken-by=le_garce - but obviously the makeup/outfit/overall attitude of Lana staying true to how she is now - more peaceful, casual, simple, serene, etc. If Neil shot it with similar hues and haziness to the West Coast single cover, that would be really cool.

I wonder if Lana will sing about love on the upcoming record. While writing LFL (2015 - 2017), Lana still had relationships that the public knew of, but I'm not sure if Lana has been in a relationship since LFL was released. If she hasn't been, does anyone think she will talk about her relationships? I feel like it's pretty 50/50. She obviously doesn't have to write about an autobiographical relationship, but it's highly possible she won't talk about love as much as she did in her previous records. If the record is allegedly continuing the themes present in Change/Get Free, then it's possible she may reflect on where she wants to go from the end of writing LFL, almost like a "modern manifesto" in greater detail that runs throughout the whole record. I guess Yosemite and Roses Bloom For You could make an appearance on there, as Lana has described the former to capitalize on an "idealistic return to nature zone that [she] was in," and based on the latter's lyrics, it's definitely a more universal sentiment.

We definitely did lmao! I definitely think you're on to something now - I guess that can be applied to what I wrote in December about the timelessness of Honeymoon and Lana/Lizzy/Elizabeth coexisting throughout the album; Lana taking previously applied concepts or 'past personas' of herself and incorporating them into the present/future to further grow. -

Hmmm...this seems incredibly plausible; to me, the use of trigonometry in TBD being referred to as "not simple" is ironic, and it can be interpreted as a metaphor for a love triangle. This part of that wikipedia article about ribbon knots really stood out to me: "...by cutting a slit in the disk and passing another part of the disk through the slit." Maybe this is some sort of sexual connotation (?) regarding the very visual, lust driven attraction that Lana has for the boys/the boys have for Lana in the song? I feel like I could be taking this too far now lol, but I found that interesting! -

I thought she had been saying “Blue ribbons on ice/we’re ribbons on ice” like Pabst Blue Ribbon; in TIWMUG, she says “Pabst blue ribbon on ice” so I thought it was plausible! Lol Edit: Hmm, now that I think of it, with @@ivy ‘s post about males vs. females dialogue and the coyness of the song, maybe it is “blue ribbons on ice” as a callback to TIWMUG, as that song talks about “putting love first” so maybe MTWBT is the next step...? -

I have always thought the same thing! I think I wrote a post regarding the timelessness of Honeymoon sometime last year, I'll see if I can find it and I'll post it here. -

For sure! I think it's really great that even after almost 3 years since its release, we are still discovering new things/interpretations about the record, which I think really encapsulates the timelessness and simplicity yet complexity of Honeymoon! -
I'm not so sure, actually. I remember it was circulating online around the time the video was released. I think the director, Rich Lee, may have posted it to his instagram, or maybe a stylist, I'm not sure! It's definitely not leaked, though, I know that.

I 100% agree! I never really thought of it like that, but now that you say that, it really makes sense. If you look closely at what the lines actually say, it's almost as if the blue lines, ('the boys') are being forward, telling the pink lines ('Lana' and 'the girls') that they like her/them and they're saying that they'll do what they want because they like them a lot, whereas the girls/Lana, are being a little more coy, just kind of watching the boys while putting on music, having a relaxed, casual vibe, with a more objective viewpoint rather than subjective, which really fits the song and whole Honeymoon album's theme of voyeurism and storytelling through the perspective of others! And MTWBT is coy, with the lines about 'hoes with lies akin to me' and 'like lies could buy eternity' or 'your wedding ring,' as Lana sings in the live version. Great analysis and observation! I love analyzing Honeymoon! -
I think the WM visuals are super cool and retrofuturistic. The colours and visuals remind me of Chuck's gas station photoset from the LFL booklet, which I think is visually really unique. Had the visuals been used for BAR, however, it would've been more impactful of a video, as a lot of the footage recorded most definitely wasn't used. There are lip synch scenes were Lana is standing in a room similar to the set of the Coachella single cover, holding what appears to be vintage rotary/occult/sci fi devices or even futuristic looking kitchen appliances, as seen in that one BTS pic. (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/lanadelrey/images/8/81/DDooldy.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20170914012936). The visuals are really great, in my opinion. It would've been a great title track video if BAR hadn't been leaked.

I love all of these, but now that you say gardenias, @ - I can see that being associated with a more laid-back, peaceful album. Also - Ihink a plumeria would be amazing for a surf rock sounding album! @JehovahThikness

I wonder what flower she'll use for this era. Born to Die/Paradise - roses/birds of paradise for Paradise only Ultraviolence - hydrangeas Honeymoon - lilacs/peonies/carnations Lust for Life - daisies

Darling Lust for Life - happy 1st birthday! You are a beautiful record who serves as an important, transitional chapter of an artist's journey. From hip-hop to folk, you make for some great storytelling that will be cherished in the years to come. -
I guess, but really that's only the Love video visuals/album cover shoot. I would love if she explored that kind of imagery more in-depth!
-
A nature-centred aesthetic with lots of white, loose flowing hippie-inspired outfits and soft, hazy filters! Kind of like the Love video meets some of Neil's shots for Ultraviolence and Honeymoon! I would also love a lavender or forest green vinyl!
