  1. While the phrase “blue banisters” is significant within the context of the song, the word “banisters” lends itself to the image of stairs in someone’s home, with the operative word being “blue” — used in the emotional sense (perhaps meaning a sad home life). And that’s the album title, paired with songs like Text Book and Wildflower Wildfire. The layers continue to unravel…can’t wait to hear the entire album!
  2. Ever since I told myself that the people in my life who dragged Lana needed to go, everything just got better!
  3. Completely agreed! I feel like even switching the type of guitar used on the track would have lessened the similarities — you would think Jack would have thought to do that, with him working on both albums — but it is what it is. It’s great that Lana and her team are recognizing where credit is due (if this story is, in fact, true lol). You never know why situations like this are meant to happen — perhaps there’s a karmic connection there!
  4. For what it’s worth, Radiohead was sued by The Hollies because “Creep” sounded like their track, “The Air That I Breathe”, which came out years earlier. And Lana implied that she won the lawsuit against Radiohead anyways. This is all just to say that similarities are bound to happen between artists (especially ones who work with the same producer), but the fact that Lana allegedly does not want any money speaks volumes to the way newer female alternative singers have dismissed her in the past, despite Lana basically forging the path for them. It’s about paying tribute where tribute is due, not necessarily about the actual musicality. I would be livid if a fellow musician publicly said horrible things about my personal experiences that I documented in my songwriting, but then later copied my songs. It’s about the principle and the hypocrisy of it all.
  5. What a cool thread idea! I think she also had a Twitter with the handle “@columbiancartel” - last active November 8, 2009!
  6. Friendly reminder that even if someone is annoying us in the thread, it’s not right to make fun of their English proficiency! Friendly reminder that this is an international forum and no one is less intelligent because of their language fluencies! Thanks
  7. Lana’s career is not going to be affected by her lack of social media. Period. It’s quite evident that she will still sell records the way she has consistently done so over the last 10 years. The only difference is that she won’t be criticized ruthlessly in the news as much, because the truth about the media is out of sight, out of mind - an observation that I’m sure influenced her decision to deactivate socials. The music will be the only focus and that’s fine. In fact, that’s what it should be. Make the music and the writing and the poetry and the art the thing to look towards to. Not the “celebrity” — in this case, Lana transcends celebrity culture — but we as fans, without realizing, perpetuate that culture by focusing so heavily on image (and I know that’s partly because Lana has had a strong visual component to her career, and still does, but let’s not conflate visuals and public perception).
  8. Good luck to everyone voting today! Get out there and get your voice heard!

    Song vs. Song

Money Hunny vs. Pin Up Galore
  10. The fact that she included songs she did with Barrie on this record feels very special — that’s not to glamorize that relationship at all, but I remember that Lana had said in the audio recording of the 2017 Pitchfork interview that the year 2014 was partly difficult for her because she was “transitioning out of [her] first real relationship” — so it seems that their connection has had a lasting impact on her, and is evidently conducive to her telling her story.
  11. And this very thread magnifies the problem with stan culture — there are no boundaries and people think they are entitled to police an artist’s life! You can voice how much you will miss not being able to connect with Lana online without being a micro-manager — in fact, I think, if anything, the response she’s gotten for deactivating absolutely reinforces her decision to do so.
  12. Happy birthday, Honeymoon! I cannot believe it’s been 6 years since its release —— what a timeless record with some of Lana’s most creative and impressionistic writing. I truly believe Lana tapped a new creative vein with Honeymoon that made for a collection of songs that served as a culmination of her life and career in the spotlight. The conduit between anxiety and glamour that underlies this record is one of Lana’s many creative identities and she challenges that identity so confidently but coolly on this record. The title track is one of my favourite songs of all time, and the soundscaping on the entire record is so retro, luxe, and dreamy. I will never forget how songs like Honeymoon and Terrence Loves You made me feel upon first listen. Happy birthday to a masterpiece that is emblematic of Lana turning all the way inward and capturing her essence beautifully. <3

  15. On July 26, 2017 at the Amoeba event in promotion of Lust for Life! A fan asked about unreleased songs and she said in passing that she was considering releasing an album of 25 of her favourite “leaked songs”!
  16. Since she mentioned an album of 25 unreleased songs that leaked, I feel like the most iconic ones from 2006–2014 are definitely on her radar (and mine too!) —— 1. Fordham Road 2. Money Hunny 3. 17. I strongly believe Lana has reached a point of career longevity and stability, where she knows who she is through her music and poetry and can afford to be “off the grid” and just put her projects out as she pleases. That’s actually the dream, if you think about it — to just do what you love and not get caught up in the fluff that seems inevitable when you’re a famous musician, and still generate lots of sales and warranted, genuine, and undivided interest in your work. She’s really a living legend.
  18. Lana literally would have shown everyone up on how to stay true to the 2021 Met Gala theme and you know what they say—coaches don’t play.
