This is so shady and condescending but I feel like a lot of the fans who say this kind of thing have never even been in a relationship. That's not directed at you haha I just see a lot of the younger fans on twitter tumblr etc saying they "get" Lana's lyrics cos they like rough sex too and I'm like child pls uve only ever been spanked by your mama!

My personal belief is that she sings like a storyteller. In Boarding School, for example, she sings about being pro-anorexia alongside other serious things but I don't believe she honestly believes these things. She is a storyteller; she undergoes different people and different lives and tells stories. Half the stuff she sings about are unlikely to have even happened to her, but she is such a fantastic storyteller that she can sing in such excessive detail and make us believe it's truthful.

Remember: Lana did say this album would be "unlistenable". She wasn't going to be simply singing about missing a lover, she was bound to stray into dangerous territory. Some of that may anger some of you, some of you may find it completely fine. Regardless of that, this is the reaction Lana wanted; she chose to sing about such dark topics to make the album more personal.

Aggressive =/= Abusive so can we please stop the whole taking-shit-out-of-context?

Jesus fucking Christ, whatever it takes to get to nag, it seems. Poor girl could never catch a break with self-disclosure without her own fans turning it into a psychoanalysis under the false pretense that she condones domestic abuse.

it's interesting to see the Swallow hate, bc I find him to be verrrry similar to Lana, personality-wise. In interviews, if you can get past how horribly unintelligent he sounds and the fact that he says "like" more than any 13 y/o girl you'll ever meet, I think you will find that they have more in common than what might meet the eye. Imo this is partially why they compliment each other's aesthetics so well. He doesn't just fulfill Lana's "bad boy" description from many songs, I think they are genuinely in sync in their abilities to look graceful and be very attuned to their environments. Someone wrote how he seems like such a poser sometimes - and I agree - but have you not heard very similar things said about tha queen???

(if you're familiar with myers briggs type indicator, I'd type them both as ISFP)

In an interview about his tats, Bradley says "I don't really have a lot of meaning behind my tattoos" (so, visually inspired a la Video Games) and then goes on to explain the one exception: He was struck by a Suicidal Tendencies song War Inside My Head (his forehead tat lol) and says those words represent the constant ~war in his mind~ between doing right and wrong. IDK moments like that really scream Lana Del Rey to me.. but obviously still a little different. Like Lana Del Rey crammed inside a douchey tween skater boi who doesn't care to seem half as professional. And a touch more confident.

Not to totally derail and make this all about personality types, but ISFP typically forgive people very easily, especially when they feel they have a connection to them and so the relationship is worth keeping.  This could explain her being friends with that bitch who dissed her SNL performance and now says "no one does it quite like miss Del Rey" and working with Dan Auerbach after he openly predicted her fame would be short lived. Funny, because she also said somewhere that she's "not as interested in flip-floppers", and clearly that isn't true.

    Ok. Done being over-analytical.

the way the layered vocals switch between melody and harmony. It's very interesting.

I love it, and it's not because I'm hearing it for the first time, because sometimes I can get hyped up for music and become immediately disappointed from it (e.g. Swine and Do What U Want by Gaga), I love it because it's so different and I gotta disagree with you here @@Ultraviolence, the transition from the verse to the pre-chorus to the chorus is amazing and it's super beautiful. But I get what you mean, I just think the genre is really really different from what you were expecting. But as a fan of The Black Keys, I hoped she would crossover into more of their gene and she did and I'm really, really happy. I think it's beautiful and super sexy, from the beachy drums to the synths and the guitars, I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love...

I find it interesting how some people are already tired of some of Lana's most signature tunes.  One thing I noticed, at least when I listen to her music, is that it helps to be in the right frame of mind. Her music is very cerebral and nothing sounds like it. I don't worship any pop stars but I give credit where it's due and Lana deserves it. She writes amazing music even if some of the same lyrics and ideas show up in multiple songs. Look at Stevie Nicks' songwriting for example, there are constant themes all through her music and it helped her develope her own sound. Lana is doing the same thing, and I hope continues developing her craft. I was listening to Born to Die and Paradise while drivng through the countryside for work today. It was a beautiful Spring day and Lana made it even more wonderful. I still don't think she gets the credit she is due even from some of her "fans." If Lana puts out shit music I will call her on it, but so far I have yet to be disappointed. When the single drops we will all be able to have our say.

i don't get the hype, it sounds boring
it sounds like a Paradise Edition reject
    I miss her lyrical creativity

Not un-listenable at all...but that doesn't mean I want to listen to it

Why do you think she's 4w5? (Not in the context of this quote, but in general). She strikes me as a very obvious 4w3.
  23. Kerrigan liked a post in a topic by Valentino in Lana, Lorde, & Feminism
Her perspective on feminism is neither profound nor novel and this can probably be attributed to her being 16, the age during which most people do not spend their whole day reading bell hooks or Gloria Steinem in addition to being an age where one has relatively little personal experience of one's own to add to a global conversation. This doesn't mean one should say "she's 16, so I'll ignore her views," but it does mean one can safely say "her views are not particularly well developed and this can be attributed to her age."

I, personally, do not disparage her for being 16 - I see it as a causative factor of the relative superficiality of her views. There are very few people her age who can stand their own in a political conversation; more politically minded peers tend to be better educated on their subject of choice to make up for their inexperience. I know my views at 16 were, in retrospect, quite embarrassing (and in a few years I'll probably find something about my current views to be embarrassed about as well) and lacking nuance.
