That song should have been on BTD. It is perfection in every sense, sheer genius in its production, stunning in its vocals--just the swelling orchestra and the wails and undgwkhjdhdka I want to marry it sonically, visually, thematically and musically. It needs to be released and seriously I would sell my soul to hear it live.

So once we'd met Lana, we ran back to our spot in the queue, shaking and early in tears. We decided to go back not only because we needed to make sure our spot was safe, but Lana was still meeting fans and we'd had our turn! Once we got into the venue, WE GOT THE BARRIER!

So I've never had the barrier at a concert before, which is why it's a big deal, but I felt so much more calm about seeing Lana now that we'd met her, and once Kassidy had performed and Cola started, she walked down the front and she held my friends hand for a second or two. We kept on getting completely crushed, and the people behind me in the GA were absolutely mental (literally jumping on my back and shoulders and clawing at Lana whenever she was anywhere near us) but it was so worth it. Regardless of meeting Lana and being at the barrier (although it definitely makes the experience better), the show is phenomenal. If you compare her vocals of last night to that SNL performance (or any earlier performance where her vocals aren't 100%), it's almost like she's a different singer. I don't recall hearing one single flaw through the whole night.

I'm almost certain that each time she looked over at where we were and smiled, she was making eye contact with me, because when she came round at national anthem at the end, she smiled really enthusiastically and said 'Hi!' to me, right into my eyes (still not got over that yet) and I asked for a picture and she got next to me and her cheek was pressed right against mine, and I don't know if it was a curse or a blessing that my camera was being slow because she stayed next to me for a few seconds until my camera finally took the picture. Luckily, this photo is a lot nicer than the hot mess taken earlier! Although Lana looks amazing in both, I'm happier with my barrier picture.

I am so so lucky! I would recommend you go to the tour if you have the chance, if not for the chance of meeting Lana then just because it's an amazing show. The vocals are on point, the band is AMAZING (I spoke to one of the guys in the band after the show and he said that they had worked really really hard for months and months) and therefore even just the instrumentals are perfect too. I would've met Lana after the show again but there were loads and loads of people, so I would've just had a glimpse of her, and I think I'm lucky enough to have had 2 encounters anyway. I hope you enjoy my pics! Please ask if you want to use any or want me to upload more, but here are my favourites. (I did get a beautiful derp)

So we got to the venue around 1pm so we'd have a good place (hopefully near the barrier), but the queue was really small and we managed to get into the priority queue which was fabulous! We knew Lana would be arriving at the venue at some point so another girl and myself waited around the stage doors while our friends held our spot in the queue. We kept meeting the members of Kassidy (except Barrie) and other random tech guys/security people which we kept asking about Lana's arrival. We saw some fairly interesting stuff:

After waiting in the wind and rain and hail and occasional sunshine for 3 hours, a random guy told us to wait by the stage doors further down and that she'd be here in a few minutes. I found out that he was a 'fan' (aka autograph collector who sells her signatures for money) and so has met her several times. Finally, she arrived! She saw my flower crown and sort of gasped and smiled and I was about to take a picture but my stupid camera wasn't working so she went and signed some people's things, and took her time! Honestly, she was so so genuine and lovely.

She went inside (but only to put down her handbag) and a few more people had gathered round (fans + paps) and some annoying couple had pushed in front of me ('Lana please have a photo we need to drive home to London Lana Lana...') so after she had seen to them, another girl who had just had Lana's name tattooed on her boob, she went inside again and was about 2 minutes. She came back out with her bodyguards and they each were holding about 5 copies of the limited edition Paradise boxset (that sold out!) and they had all been signed by Lana. Everyone was holding their hands out for one, and Lana had one copy left and looked up at me and put it in my hands, then went back to signing things. Alas, some other girl had her hand on my limited signed Paradise and snatched it out my hand! Then had the nerve to stand directly in front of me (I probably would've been next to have a photo with Lana) and she got her photo. It would have made me angrier, but Lana was right in front of me and I kept blurting out things like 'you're so pretty!' 'you're perfect!' and she had this big gorgeous smile the whole time, and she was like 'I'm not!'. Her security people kept saying no to everyone who said 'can I have a picture please Lana?' but she replied 'stop telling me just give me 2 more minutes' and Lana carried on signing away. Anyway, after these other basic hoes who hadn't been waiting for 3 hours had got their pictures, I FINALLY got a picture with Lana and my friend, and I look like a mess but she is adorable.

I'm going to have to make a separate post about the actual show lmao, but I forgot to mention she kissed my cheek!

you start trying to draw similarities between your life and Lana's and think "OMG WE ARE EXACTLY THE SAME even if its just because you both know someone named Bob You don't even have to say the name of the artist you are talking about with your friends, they just know its Lana You think gross older guys are really hot and want to call them daddy (ok..maybe not the daddy part) you're lying in bed and thinking "OMG I BET LANA IS SLEEPING NOW TOO," you see a bottle of coke or cola and immediately think of Cola whenever you see Mountain Dew, you think of DMD and hum it you wish you had someone to share all the cute Lizzy photos with you start thinking your hair is inadequate being a go-go dancer sounds really cool you used to think long fake nails were tacky but now they're super cool you suddenly listen to really old songs and watch old movies while Lana plays you look out the car window and imagine its a music video ferrari jackets are the coolest thing ever you suddenly reconsider baseball hats you realize your clothing is fugly and know you're so basic compared to Lana smoking is a lot cooler and doesn't matter if it killed your grandma blue jeans white shirt you think you hear someone humming Lana songs and whip around your head to see if they really are you really really want a nose job and lip injections

She said nothing like that at my show but tbh I read this before I left and decided to step out of Marina's set to see her.

    BITCH WASN'T THERE

And the crowd. I think one other person (beside me) was singing along, except during "I Love It", of course. "OMG i dint noe she did th@?!?!1"

THE MAIN EVENT was our eye contact. Because I was pretty close and had tweeted at her prior to the show that I would be wearing a Charli shirt. So during "You", she's kinda singing my direction, ain't no thing. But then she starts smiling in my direction. I'm not reacting yet because I figure I'm just imagining it. Mind you, it's a Marina show and these fans think "Charlie SCS" is opening, so she's not exactly doing much audience interaction. But I'm obviously cheesing hard and singing the bridge and her eyes are still in my direction so I grab the front of my shirt and hold it up for her to see, just kinda confirm that she might be looking at me. And then she grabbed her shirt in the same place and nodded! WE HAD A MOMENT. I'M NOT SURE SHE HAD ANY OTHER MOMENTS BUT IDTS.

Sadly, that's the extent of my experience. Hopefully she comes back to California soon.

There are so many questions surrounding Lana Del Rey. As one of the most enigmatic pop stars of this generation, the 27-year-old talent stands as a sphinx in a sea of overexposed bold face names. Taking a break from recording “
“—her just-released track off The Great Gatsby soundtrack—the Queen of Sadcore escaped from the confines of the L.A. studio she was toiling in to spend a day shooting with FASHION magazine in Malibu’s Zuma Beach area. The breath-taking beachfront spot Del Rey handpicked for the cover seemed to transport the crew into her dreamy world of ‘50s pinups and MGM icons, evoking the essence of Lana Del Rey videos off her debut, Born To Die, her latest E.P. Paradise and her new duet, “Summer Wine,” which features her boyfriend Barrie-James O’Neill.Features Editor, Elio Iannacci had a chance to witness the magic unfold and chat with Del Rey after her epic 10-page photo shoot was done.
Here are a few of the highlights from the upcoming Summer 2013 cover story:
On the inspiration behind her cover look:
“Every shoot I do, I have a theme. I’ve been watching old Spanish films and my new record has a Spanish guitar on it so that actress-signorita vibe so its been on my mind. We always listen to The Eagles “Hotel California” while we get ready.
BRA AND BRIEFS, BOTH PRICE ON REQUEST, AND EARRINGS, $1,200, BY DOLCE & GABBANA
    On women she admires:
“I believe in Amy Winehouse. I know she’s not with us anymore but I believe she was who she was and in that way she got it right. I would say an actress like Lauren Bacall also got it right. She never let anyone [persuade] her to be something she wasn’t. She was strong. She always looked like she knew what she was doing.”
On being called anti-feminist: “I get it. It looks like I’ve chosen a path of submission. But I’m a modern day woman in so many senses. I pay my way and work hard for things but it is my choice that at the end of the day I have a dominant male in my life that is hands-on. Someone who wants what he wants the way I do. I get so tired of trying to have it only my way, it’s nice to have someone else who also has their life and opinions. I have to be so assertive in life that its nice to feel escape through a really passionate romance.”
On her romance with Scottish rocker Barrie-James O’Neill: “He’s on tour and opens for me. We sing some Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood duets together. I’ve been seeing him for a year and a half and he’s even more of a meticulous, devout artist than I am.  He can’t keep his hands off the piano, ever. Whenever I’m not writing he always asks, ‘why aren’t you writing?’ We kick each others asses. We give each other input every night.”
On her musical philosophy: “Einstein said ‘your imagination is more important than intelligence,’ and I have a very, very big imagination. I love to live in my internal world and will never stop seeking influences and visions for my art.

Okay so Harlem Shake is literally 30 seconds of music repeated six times. I should have a glass of water right now.

I realized that i once tried to listen to Call Me Maybe and i turned it off after the first chorus, which is rare for me because i almost always make it a point to sit through everything no matter how much i can't tolerate it. I got through it this time. This sounds like music that would be in an Old Navy commercial for pants or, like, an edgy shampoo commercial. What is going on? I wonder if the producer(s) told her to smile while singing. What is she doing?

I am contributing to Vevo views like a good consumer. Now on to Baby by Justin Bieber. He looks like a hot lesbian. Am i supposed to think this? God, his pronunciation and inflection is gross, ugh. Is this kid going to hate his life in a few years? Why are they at a bowling alley? Why is Ludacris there? What am i doing? I don't have anything to say about this song, it feels like i'm staring at a white wall and someone is asking me to describe it. I think i'd rather listen to this than Call Me Maybe. Man, that fade is smooooth. Oh, he got the girl at the end and he did a cool handshake with Luda. Alright Biebz.

No one is reading this, i'm about to start confessing some dark, vile secrets.

Okay, on to Kiss You by One Direction (it's the first song that comes up when you start typing One Direction on youtube so i went with that one). I surprised you, didn't i? Pulled this one out of left field. I wasn't prepared for this. This sounds like an SNL sketch. Fuck, this one is easily the worst of the night. This is suicide. What if this was the only song you could listen to for the rest of your life? Wait, why is the song quoting 99 Luftballoons? I have to admit that i'm laughing a lot listening to/watching this. Why is this SO LOUD? And why do they have to sing LIKE THAT, ugh. Imagine one of these doofuses kissing you. There is no way that i will ever listen to this piece of shit again.

I completely disagree. Her lyrics are great IMO, much more well written and emotional than lots of other pop women out there today. What makes you think her songwriting is what keeps her from rising to the top? I just find it really hard to understand that. I'm gonna list some of her great lyrical moments in a spoiler below just to appease myself.

I personally believe that the one thing actually holding her back is her style. I know she's only put out two albums, but they're very different in style and that's an off-putter for people sometimes. I don't think she's found the best sound for herself that will sell as well as it deserves. I love the style of TFJ, but it's not as commercial as EH. At the same time though, while EH is very commercial, it doesn't stand out sonically compared to other top artists right now.

I know your post is old but it's been bothering me since I read it. I really think she's a great lyricist and I want her to go as far as she deserves, but I don't think the EH sound is going to get her that kind of positive popularity. It's kind of a boring album compared to TFJ honestly. It doesn't have longevity and that's an important thing to have.

HELLO YES I AM HERE WHAT IS UP? I AM DOWN FOR THIS THREAD.

Radio. What a tune. I did a whole paragraph on it in a different thread not sure if I should repost though?

I love the jazz cafe performance, but like sitar The Scala Club one has a special place in my heart so i'm gonna link that too

I like how she sometimes goes a little high on the "i finally found you" when she sings it live, it's such a sweet little touch.

Also something I've noticed is lyric changes through live performances. The BtD line is "baby love me cause i'm playing on the radio" but in live performances she tends to change it to "(my) baby loves me cause i'm playing on the radio." It's subtle but I think about it a lot. In the BtD version it kind of implies she's asking to be loved because she's finally famous, it's a little bit of a tease too. However the latter suggests she's only loved because of her fame which is a completely different emotion. I dunno why she does it or if there's any reason to it, but I find it interesting none the less.

Let's talk about the demo though. (i'd link that too but the youtube version is pitched up horribly, what's a girl to do?)

It has such a full sound to it and while i love the almost isolated sound her vocals have in the BtD version, the vocal layering all throughout this version are superb. This is like slow, sad electropop that i'd dance to in a club at 6am while the sun is about to rise and that just sounds sooo cooool. What I love about this demo generally is that in its most pure form it's a pop song, but for me at least, there's this real understated sadness to it, you know? Tbh I think this song would've done well on Paradise, thematically () at least. All these illusions to death, being reborn and paradise.

in conclusions, i like sad things that I get to overanalyse.
