Norman Fucking Rockwell - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
GeminiLanaFan replied to Elle's topic in Post-Release Threads
My opinion on Hope is that it’s probably her most personal song and the one that reveals the most about her (while still being cryptic enough). A magazine (Rolling Stone? Not sure which one) told that it was the song that described best what it was like to be LDR. So, best songwriting, maybe not, but most revealing? -
I was wondering the same thing. But I think (not 100% sure at all) when she does mention something on her socials about rescheduled shows, it happens at some point, like a year or so after. If she cancels and doesn't say anything about another possible reschedule, then it's gone (but don't quote me on this, I could very much be wrong, but her word on shows is better than for a possible MV lol) Maybe her «voice» is a metaphor for Sean

And she does look fucking stunning. Granted, she didn’t have the flu (we think), but I wish I looked like that when I am not well :/ -

Many songs on NFR, to me, has some of her best storytelling. The 3-part story on HTD, MAC’s plea to be heard and understood (while beautifully quoting Leonard Cohen), the metaphors in the verses of TNBAR, the euphemisms of the outro of the Greatest, the Laurel Canyon Story told by the title track, HIaB and Bartender: these are all superb stories she brought on this record. She always had amazing lyrics on all of her projects, but to me, NFR has some of her best stories for an album. -

The Greatest is one of her saddest songs... Maybe not THE saddest, but it's got to be top 5. Hope is sure sad, but there's still, well, hope at the end of it to soften it up. -
Maybe she did it: I mean, she did take a lot of time to stand on the Harvey movement. True, if she did, it was “consensual”... up to a point. How is it true freedom if you want your songs in a movie, you have to sleep with the dude? It’s not “real pressure” either, but... Or maybe she did get along with him (I can’t imagine how, Grossey Weinstein is Jabba the Hutt’s little brother, but she never had the best taste in men).

Agreed. Plus the UV era was also the one where she saw a ton of songs leaked, plus the press backlash she received after BTD... You kinda feel that she channeled those vibes with those of a possible breakup on UV... Even if she did breakup with Sean, I don’t think it would be « enough » for a « UV 2.0 »

The orchestration is perfect Bond theme... but her voice sounds so weak, and not in a good way. I really don’t hate Billie, but someone like Lana or Adele would have served better vocals.

Lana is triple nominated for the NME Awards 2020

Can it be a more perfect award for her and that album, a big F U finger? -
For the newbies here, here's what we know of Life Is Beautiful. it was recorded in 2012, but she felt the song to be «too specific» for a record . She was asked to submit a song for the movie (or was it for another one that didn't see the light of day and they reused it for Age of Adaline? I don'T remember that part). she submitted a snippet from the whole song that was used for the promo. So, both her and Liongate have rights on the song, but we don't know if she could use it again for another project or if she would have to buy back the rights. I really think she doesn't give a fuck about it anymore. Even on a «unreleased collection», I'm not even sure it would make the cut.

I don’t get why you’re all acting as if everything is scrapped: She did say it would be out in February (« about a month »), plus she posted a now-deleted picture of a microphone (I assumed it was for this project). Plus: it’s her we’re talking about: everything takes longer than she says it would. Somewhere in February could mean in Spring, I Guess.

The « holy trinity » of NFR (for cohesiveness and storytelling) is Love song, Cinnamon Girl and How to Disappear. The story of someone falling in love, hoping to not be hurt again but finding out the guy disappeared is just so good. The string arrangement on the three songs (is it the Melotron?!?) is just so perfect. Also love the « bookend » duo that is Fuck It I Love You and the Greatest : the rush and the descent, with the two love stories in between (California and TNBAR really are about Barrie). It’s just a near-perfect album. -

With the whole Bond song saga, I kinda made my peace with it when I realized that I'd want her to do a Bond theme, but both the song and the movie would need to be good, like Skyfall was. Other than that, if she sang it one day, it would be a good song for a mediocre movie and we'd forget all about it. And hell, 24 was much more interesting and more a Bond song than the Sam Smith one ever was. -

I don't have the exact source (I read it on a Lana fan page on FB), but on next page, there's a picture of her signing. -

According to TMZ, she was the only one there that signed autographs for her fans, even bringing pens with her to do so. She really is a sweetheart to her fans <3- 502 replies

Giving such prestigious awards to Billie and her brother sounds very much to me: «We're still a fresh and cool academy that recognizes young talents» -

Maybe Lana's loss has something to do with the Academy wanting to change a bit by not giving another award to Jack Antonoff? I don't know his exact track record, but hasn't Jack won like many AOTY Grammy's over the last years?
