I feel like she will never fully go back to that style of writing. It wasn’t until she started getting more personal in her writing that critics started to call her one of the best songwriters of her generation. She seems to value the opinion of critics more than anyone else, so she will likely continue on that path.

It's always interesting to revisit these threads and be reminded of how little I have in common with most fans.

I’m not a BB hater, but I rarely come back to the songs beyond Thunder and WFWF. And, no, it doesn’t have to do with the production—I just find the subject matter un-relatable to me, as a 20 something man. Which I found unusual for her, because she is so good at tapping into more “universal truths” and themes in her music, and has done so again on Ocean Blvd. I do understand its space in her discography and the importance it has, along with all others, in her journey as an artist. 
 
I’m not shitting on it because “omg she stopped making music for the gays”, she’s allowed to speak her truth in her music, I just don’t really have it on replay either. 

even Lana herself doesn't like/care about Blue Banisters.

No she is at fault because she could’ve easily made this an unreleased album that “tells her story” she didn’t need to put some of her worst songs of all time on it

Not a real tracklist bc I literally threw this together in 5 minutes but it would be a cute
unreleased album that took half as much effort as bb and the fans would actually enjoy it while she gets to “tell her story” lmao

She needs to have someone thats willing to argue with her in the studio again im sorry we need someone to be like "This sucks come up with something better" so she can actually come up with something better... i LOVE and ADORE ocean blvd but it feels like she's been in her artistic comfort zone since COTCC and she needs to find someone to break her out of that comfort zone like dan did with UV. im not saying bring back dan as that would kinda ruin the mystique and individuality ultraviolence has in her discography, but im saying she needs to find someone that was willing to fight with her to make great art like dan was
 
either that or she needs to remember how to pop her pussy

at the end of the day it's subjective, but i feel like her songwriting was so much better during the earlier albums, a lot of her songwriting is more straightforward and personal, which i can respect, but the descriptiveness, depth, beauty, and worldbuilding of the earlier albums just can't be beat, her songwriting on songs such as off to the races, bel air, ultraviolence, honeymoon, and countless other songs are just so much more interesting and impactful lyrically

this is what i miss about lanas music that isnt in the new record either. i need her to go back to world building n leave the straightforward and personal writing to her poetry. 

NOTG, LL, Dealer, Wildflower Wildfire, CB, and Thunder all deserved better homes like seriously: NOTG, LL, CB, and Thunder should've been saved for the imminent unreleased compilation (i'm high on copium i know) and Wildflower Wildfire should've been saved for Ocean Blvd and given better production by Jack Antonoff (You can all hate me idgaf COTCC was a rough patch.) and it should've replaced Fingertips

Also her vocals are so unconvincing… you used to be able to always feel her emotions in her songs, I mean I know it’s not bb but just look at the lyrical/vocal difference in lmlylaw/pink champagne! Pink champagnes performance is so much more compelling, I think even if pink champagne was bare piano I would enjoy it more than lmlylaw or to make a more relevant example wfwf has probably some of the best lyrics on the album (even though I hate the hot coffee hot fire hot weather part lol) but her vocals are soooo bland lol, however with love song on NFR (which I don’t really see cited as a lyrical masterpiece lol) her performance really sells you on the idea she’s trying to convey

i think that just tends to happen when ur fave releases something  u really wanna believe its everything you wanted but then the excitement wears off. this happened to me with both bb and ocean blvd

People just think things that don’t have a real melody and are more personal are more intellectual and thus better lol… Lana‘s strength has always been melody, imagery, and storytelling and it became obvious when she strayed away from that on bb

I remember it became everybody’s favorite album when it was first released 

No literally I just went back and read the first 10 pages and damn people were lying to themselves and really overcompensating

I'll never get the narrative so many push that BB is (one of) her strongest lyrically. To me BB is her worst album lyrically (and worst album in general). BTD, UV and Honeymoon, etc are lyrically Far superior than this album, and it's not even close. I know people have their own taste and opinions but I genuinely think that people that find songs like Blue Banisters or Text Book or whatever better lyrically than songs like Off To The Races, Terrence Loves You or Heroin have bad taste. I don't mean that in an insulting way, I just genuinely think those opinions show a bad taste level
