The amount of imagery, artistry and concept she had for this era like... I miss this Gaga. BTW is her best act imo

I rarely come on this thread but I listened to Cry baby again a little while ago and I forgot the flavor of this album, it is great from start to finish.
The music videos were something. An era of high quality and milimeter. She was only 19 when she did such a project, I forgot how strong enough it was.
I unfortunately got off the hook since her second album which I found far below, despite the visual efforts it must be recognized (and the film a little hard to understand), I do not like at all the light pop twist that she takes.

She deserves to make a more solid album and no indie pop sounds that came out of Soundcloud.
After school is not interesting and her character is starting to seriously run out of steam.
She must reinvent herself while keeping her identity because her latest projects are now preventing her first and best Cry baby from shining, who is drowning in too much pink and blue.

Yes, but there was a reasoning for the shaved head hairstyle (I mean britney was going THROUGH it and did it during one of the most difficult points in her life where she wasnt very healthy (not that you can blame her) - so the crazed line goes beyond just her hairstyle which is why it’s a little...icky.. even though i understand marinas intention that mental illness was not something a lot of people at the time felt empathy for, especially celebs.
Its changed of course but bringing it up the way she did was not the best. I still kinda like the line as a britney fan and marina fan but there was a MUCH better way of writing it. Especially if she wrote something after the crazed part like “but all she really deserved was to be praised/saved/ etc” or something like that... but the save one I’m iffy on cause brits father being in control of her has not saved her.
so I don’t know maybe just another few lines referencing celebs (maybe not by name) but more so their scandalous moments that deserved to be empathized with cause there was a reason they happened (since a lot of 2000s pop stars were also child stars) 
where as having gray hairs is natural occurrence. 
anyway sorry for my rambling I am slightly tipsy so if a sentence is wacky that’s why

Why harsh? Knowledge about mental illnesses and media harassment was way weaker in 2007, people were generally more unsympathetic towards women. She's saying the truth; everyone would call Britney crazed back then. It's good that the society is progressing now. 

But the thing is, she isn't lying in those lyrics. Nature IS purging us slowly. I understand your situation but I'll give you an example: I'm from Puerto Rico, in 2017 we experienced one of the worst hurricanes ever named Maria. It destroyed my house, I became homeless for months without a bed to sleep. When I saw my house with my belongings inside literally in pieces, I started crying and it was very hard. The people in my country are still scared but the beaches are clearer than ever and the air feels fresh.
 
You may think the lyrics are cruel or too harsh but it's reality. Climate change is very real and we are destroying our planet every day. 

I think what I miss the most, and I’ve thought about this a lot, is that in her other albums, especially Electra Heart, she was making societal criticisms but she did it in a way that really made you think. Like the average person would hear primadonna and think “oh catchy fun bitchy pop song” and it worked that way on a surface level, but for those that really looked into it, it obviously was satire. I miss the more hidden pretty on the surface but dark deep down kinda thing. I love her obviously! I just want less in your face and more “make me think in that special Marina way.” Idk I just thought Electra Heart was so much better than people let on. She really studied women from the fifties and sixties and nailed it with these over the top descriptions of them. Not to be that fan that can’t move on from EH, but I just miss it. Marina stuck out to me because of how you could easily bop to it but you could also really analyze it. I low key think it was more of an effective way of getting a point across. Electra Heart really made me think about materialism and roles and identity concepts without saying “This this and that” Idk. Rant over! But I miss that magic charm. I loved it. I loved the smoke and mirrors of it all. I loved analyzing it. I still study that character and rewatch the videos to see if I missed anything. I just loved everything about it. It was the perfect concept album. Everyone gives Lana credit for changing alternative sad pop but I swear Electra Heart was a huge part of that too. (And TFJ, and FROOT, too.) I heard in an interview when she said “they wanted me to be more commercial so I said okay, I’ll do it, but I’ll do it as a different person.” Amazing. 
 
 
TLDR: I miss the Marina that made you think “there’s more to this than shes letting on” or “this isn’t what it seems.” The songs that could be played on the radio and no one but some people would listen and think “oh this is actually mocking people who really act like this I.e primadonna.”

i was just listening to ARTPOP's title track and it's so beautiful, the 90s synthwave sound of that song and do what u want should've been the direction for the entire album, too bad she thought EDM was innovative for 2013 

I don't know what happened in this era, but I feel like it's forced. Gaga didn't look good, we don't know what was going on behind the scenes, and indeed it is quite unusual for her not to be promoted. I also think the failure of the album must have chilled her, see how Artpop affected her on that. I don't know, I think her health is not good, that she is no longer motivated and maybe wants to change all that. If you notice she talks a lot about sanity in the interviews and how she was affected by it all. We don't know everything.
But I'm not going to lie to you, there was no effort at all on his side and that's a shame. A little improvised live in her living room, in her garden would have done the trick.
 
A general communication on the album would have done the job (just a press release or an article typed by her on Instagram, a video on the creation process, 5 short minutes). Instead we had a collection of nonsense advertisements, she accepted everything and anything as long as the contract that the contract is 8 digits. Not a word about the fans, nothing. Just Gaga and the money.
 
Sometimes I feel as if she is not managing anything on her side, her team does absolutely everything and she is just a doll who is given the ideas and she applies them if her team seems like it is a good idea but I do not think at this stage of her career that she is deciding nothing.
 
I think we have to take Chromatica as a simple error of course (it was disappointing for me, it is a concentrate of everything that is more "bad" about her, she clearly did not have the inspiration to this record and even her looks have nothing of Gaga)

this really isn't an excuse though, there were TONS of things that they could have done for promo instead...look at dua for example, she was doing so much promo even during the height of the lockdown. even katy was doing live performances whilst pregnant AND in lockdown. i completely understand that physically, gaga's health isn't as great, but it's wrong to act like there was nothing they could do during covid. what about chromaticaTV for example?

it’s sad she’s become a human advertisement.. i thought it was obvious from the jump that haus labs was purely an amazon makeup line with gagas face slapped on it.  
 
chromatica never even stood a chance cause she didn’t even seem connected to the album, allegedly bloodpop made her cry on her birthday when she played him the original LG6 produced by DJWS and he told gaga that the music was bad and didn’t sound like her, so how could she be in love with music that she was pretty much manipulated/forced into making? she seems to have no desire for pop music anymore seeing as she ditched it for so many years trying to get back into the general public’s good graces after they were over her because of ARTPOP. she never even carries out most of her eras, once they start flopping she gives up and tries to start over with something new. she should just give up music for good or at least pop music and make whatever she actually wants..and let’s not act like joanne was something thought provoking and authentic when it was a clear attempt at garnering acclaim. that’s her problem she was always worried about how people perceived her and never did what she truly wanted, so many years of good music she could’ve released wasted because of that.

I find it kind of irritating the only time she posts on her social media seems to be advertisements. She is really trying to capitalize on her career. How many advertising partnerships does she need, on top of her makeup line, singing and acting career. It kinda makes me think she’s greedy trying to market this overpriced crap to her fans in a pandemic.

I made an album cover for CB era unreleased songs using a fanart and I need honest opinions on it, like on the colors, positioning of the logo, if it fits together or if it just looks badly edited in general, Ive been looking at it for so long that I cant tell anymore

I basically tried to make it look like the look from the CB album cover by changing the color of the hair shirt and makeup to make it feel like it goes together w the CB album as some sort of B Side release or some sort of rerelease
 
and if anyone feels like they can do better and wants to edit it you can because Id love to see someone improve it lol, and regarding opinions be as harsh as you want and dont sugarcoat because I really need honest opinions lol

people (including myself, I’m people) were really attached to the image of Marina and The Diamonds up until FROOT which was that of a very cheeky, messy but lovable, shady at times, very talented singer songwriter who made fun of youth culture while at the same time partaking in it and curated her project with the utmost precision from the sound to the visuals to the songs everything 
 
L+F was a HUGE paradigm shift cause she dropped EVERYTHING she had been doing and did a 180 turn on us
No more interesting visuals, no more curated tracklist (she admitted putting together the album after it was already over and coming up with the concept of love + fear last minute which immensely backfired), no more interesting songs (literally nobody outside of the stans remembers Love + Fear or a song on the album), the production is very lacking, boring and generic and the humour is gone
 
now you CAN and should like the song if you want!!! I’m not here to tell anybody what to like and what not to like
 
BUT I think it’s impossible not to acknowledge that a huge part of Marina’s artistry was gone with L+F, and basically everybody noticed that. The reviews all say it’s underwhelming and fans alike are not particularly amazed by it. In fact she went as far as to fire her own manager, which was on maternity leave cause she had just had a baby, cause the album underperformed and she wasn’t pleased.
 
also I think it’s very interesting and it speaks to what actually Marina feels about the album that not even a year after L+F was released she completely dropped the ball while FROOT as an era lasted for well over 3 years, and the same goes for EH (TFJ had a much shorter run but she wasn’t known back then so it’s part of the reason why)
 
but anyway i really suggest you check out her earlier work cause it’s objectively better musically speaking 
 
EDIT: i do wanna stress LIKE LOVE + FEAR IF YOU WANT!!! I am well past “hating” on it I just answered a question that I feel I’m particularly apt to answer cause I was one of the people who criticized her the most and it’s what the post was about
