I feel like if Lana died you'd use the occasion to plug your own music.

lmao. k. women have every right to organize on their own w/out men. just like LGBT people have a right to organize without the presence of straight people. oppressed groups shouldn't have to cater to their oppressors. feminism is a political movement--it's not about your ~feelings~. stay basic & ignorant tho. this is the last i'll say on the subject cos i can't believe i thought members of lanaboards could have a nuanced discussion on the topic.

The ONLY thing I have found TRULY disturbing in this ENTIRE scenario are the reactions (not just here, but also twitter and tumblr) that say

"wow, I want to get raped now"
"wow, lana looks so fucking hot"
    "Yas she looks incredible"
    "this makes rape look hot"
    "this rape looks so *~*glamorous*~*"
"wow, this is weird but Lana looks so good"
"Wow, I wish Eli Roth would rape me"
"wow I would fuck Eli Roth"
    "wow I would fuck Lana"
"wow I wish I could rape Lana"
"wow I would love to recreate this scene with Lana"
"wow, I would love to recreate this scene with Eli"

    WHAT
    WHAT
    WHAT
    WHAT
    WHAT

THESE REACTIONS MAKE ME WANT TO BREAK THE INTERNET.

hey bud, if the general reaction to a rape scene is “well this is kind of hot” ….. something is wrong. Not about being "sensitive pussies" as you so eloquently put it. you really think that of all the ways to depict rape, the “let’s get her looking stunning and sexy and glimmering in cute little panties” route is the best one?

In the interview where the Eli Roth comment on working with Lana and Manson came from, the first question he was asked was "do you think the sexual abuse of women adds to horror?"

He first rebutted this, saying of course not, it's horrible. Then he goes on to say that in Straw Dogs, the rape DID add to the film.

    Fetishist.

I'm sorry but I just think it was entirely inappropriate in it's context. It wasn't empathizing, it wasn't a film with a storyline, or a music video with a message, it wasn't abstract and arty. It was nothing but, and I gag as I quote, "random acts of violence". Enough said.

Hm. maybe if we weren’t living in a world where you’re more likely to get expelled for plagiarizing a paper than you are raping a girl in your dorm…. where rape is one of the hardest things to prove & rarely EVER persecuted…. where ideas about victims somehow being inherently guilty of something are not perpetuated...where rapists are not constantly being defended and excused…. yeah maybe if all that wasn’t going on, depicting rape in some eli roth styled trash wouldn’t be harmful. but in this day and age, do you really think it's good to be depicting rape as something sexy, with goofy slow mo shots of her hair whipping back like she's a model, nails digging into his arm (which could be a clip of any standard softcore porn), shit like that? its glamorization and hyper sexualization of a crime that is centered around control and degradation. a rape scene shouldn't be hot.

You try to argue about how this is not supposed to be glamourising and then this happens.

    article on Pitchfork

The title track appears halfway through the movie, while "I Can Fly" is used over the credits. "Lana’s song expresses what Margaret is feeling so perfectly, it’s like a soliloquy of her inner thoughts," producer and co-screenwriter Larry Karaszewski said of the title track. Del Rey co-wrote "Big Eyes" with Daniel Heath and "I Can Fly" with Rick Nowels. The former contains the refrain "big eyes / big lies," while the latter contains the line, "I had a dream that I was fine / I wasn’t crazy, I was divine."

The Hollywood Reporter reports that it seems likely that one of the songs will be pushed for an Oscar nomination. That should make up for last year's "Young and Beautiful" from The Great Gatsby, which was literally the target of a propaganda campaign meant to keep it from the nominations. #JusticeForLana

This better come through at the Oscars, unless the same damn people claim the Rick Nowels track was intended for UV

We will probably be getting the song very soon. Soundtracks are usually released well in advance.

I hope Auerbach produced it. I need them to work together on an album of hers again.

Hello! a long time I wanted to start this topic to know how many more people have learned so many things with Lana like me.
Searching for the meaning of their songs, I first met a lot of magnificent books and movies, like Scarface, Summer of Sam, Gods and Monsters. Also been interested in the biography of Marylin and Elvis, just like Bonnie and Clyde's. I had never heard about Jim Morrison and James Dean, and after listening to her songs they began to appear in several other cases and bc of her I already knew them.
I didnt knew what a groupie was, or Parliament, Chateau Marmont, Coney Island, well as much of the American presidents, and the expression "match made in heaven".
Anyway, I'd like to know how many of you non-americans learned things about American culture because of Lana, and the americans who met books and movies bc of her.
    Thank you! ♥

I've received a couple messages about the song/movie also from someone who attended the premiere. What they've said:
it plays once during the movie (lyrical) and definitely one other time (instrumental), possibly two.  "the song is about her innocence and not being able to stand up to her husband." "it reflects the somber mood of the paintings as well as how Amy Adam’s character feels as a housewife being forced into near slavery to crank out these paintings while her husband takes all the credit." They added that the song is very fitting for the movie. It has the same tempo and tone as Ultraviolence (the song) The chorus is “biii-g eyes, …. biii-g eyes" and there is a mention of loving daddy  And finally I asked if it was as orchestral as Y&B and they said no.  I was already pumped to see the movie but now i'm over the top with excitement since Lana + Tim Burton is going to, I assure you, be magical
