"Cruel World" is giving me complete life. I just can't! When Lana is ON, she is ON. Yes, for the stripped back delivery.

No shade, was I the only one who thought the argument, even as a joke, was quite compelling?

Yes...and we knew she was leaving it

New producers, new sound, we're not stuck 2 years ago

I also thought the song was going to be another Lana Del Rey original in which she creates a character who literally screws her way to the top of the music industry. A song in which Lana, in her creative, imaginative fashion, describes the perils this girl underwent.

Girl, bye to a diss track! I am not here for that at all, and I do not think, if it is a diss track, it will speak to any part of what we have heard so far from Ultraviolence.

I've always felt like many of Lana's songs don't have a solid melody, and I don't mean this in a bad way, but it's like they're so ethereal and fragile they're not well defined, so many of the songs tend to sound alike even when they don't actually do...
I don't know if this makes any sense, but after hearing the Brooklyn baby snippet I couldn't remember the exact melody and only after hearing it again I could figured it out. The melody is so soft and simple it escapes my mind

I've never been so utterly slain in my life. One of her best in my opinion. UV >>>>>>>>> WC & SOC

I think it might grow on me. Except Betty Boop Boop every Lana song did.
I love the live version, but somehow I expected more from the studioversion.
And am I the only one that finds the spoken part horrible? I hate it when someone speaks during a song. It kills the mood totally for me
But i love the " I can hear the sirens" part

And it is probably in first-person rather than attributed to whichever singer she is referencing.

People are expecting a diss track, but I'm sure she's just telling a story about her struggle to make it in the industry.

I think the 'Fucked' in the title might not necessarily be as in having sex but rather as a person ruining/spoiling her way up to the top... just a thought

This song is everything. I knew it would take me by my hand and TURN me out. I knew it.

It is everything I could ask for from Lana. The first verse is the killer. It delicately disarms you, and then cuts you at the throat, sweetly. Come on, bitch! The layered effect on the chorus vocal adds to the bleakness of the track. I don't know about anyone else, but no one does grunge heroin fish like Mother Lana. And while I could not stand the spoken piece in the live version, I love it here.

There is dark power here, a guttural seduction that only Lana could emote. It is sickening!

The moment that hooks me in is the end of the first verse. Not really into the DN thing.

    But when she says:
    "Jim taught me thaaaaat,
he hit me and it felt like a kiss
    Jim brought me baaaack,
Reminded me of when we were kids"

I'm done. Slayed. Cause of death: Lana Del Rey

lana likes blue sonically... visually ... lyrically. Lana wants to make blue beautiful and a work of art.

I have been listening to the song all morning, and I am not sure if anyone has commented on this already, but I am so undone over the fact that Lana channeled all of the goddesses of the Motown era to vocally produce this track. Work, Lana. I am surprised that I did not hear it at first. Am I the only one who gets Diana, Gladys, 50s 60s doo wop tease, especially from the chorus? The last little bit SMACKS of Minnie Ripperton, and yes, I know she is not of the Motown era. There is even a bit of bird whistling in the background during Lana's humming that alludes to her paying homage to Miss Minnie, the queen of the sickening, bird like whistle note. Yes, Lana. She has clearly studied the mothers of music.

I never followed these artists (well, maybe 80s Diana Ross ), so that's interesting to learn!

This shows how transparent Lana is, and it validates the reason why I give her such praise for her songwriting. The girl is, in my opinion, a musical genius. She has so many layers, and I like that she is able to articulate it through her writing. This constant use of the word "blue." I would have never thought of it. Work, Ultraviolenc3.
