So if any of you are unaware, Lana has started a little travel diary on her honeymoon Instagram account. She has promised to upload videos from her travels last year over the next few weeks, so I thought I'd make a thread for discussion about the videos, and I will update it every time she posts a new one, with gifs of the video and the caption. Might be a nice idea to have them all together somewhere idk.

On this day we flew into a small airport and drove for two hours to what ended up being one of my top three favorite festivals we ever played: Sasquatch. That night I was also lucky enough to see Robert Plant for the second time (the first was on the side of his stage at Glastonbury.) Other than Bob, his voice is the only voice that completely transports me. *And Ricky was right, there were a lot of people."

Like @ said, 12 pm is the standard fill in the blank time for natal charts. It'd be weird if we knew her birth time anyway lol tbh I'm not even 100% sure about mine. 
 
I believe it would only change around the smaller stuff like the planets in signs, but the rising, sun, moon, and larger planets would all be accurate for that location on that date

I was reading my chart again just now and decided to put Lana's vitals in to see what her ascending sign is (Virgo!) as I find rising signs to speak more about a person than their sun sign does... and I was surprised how eerily accurate it was for her, especially in regards to her recent behaviour in interviews. Lana is a big fan of dualities and I have a feeling (if this entire theory were true) that half the (Source inspired) lyrics are from Lana's perspective as if she were in the roles of both Robin AND Isis, as the wife and the other woman.

I considered this too. The thing that made all of this seem plausible is that since Isis started to release all this information, there has been a resurgence of fans and followers in the hipster and artist community. In the main post I reference Isis' book description from Amazon that lists Rick Rubin as a recent devotee or at least a fan of the Source Family, citing them as inspiration and even dressing and looking like Father Yod. Rick of course collaborated with Lana before on Paradise. I would bet Lana is well aware of the cult and how it has influenced LA culture. Whether or not she used it as inspiration is what I'm interested in. There are definitely some connections here, and I don't necessarily think they are 100% solid but they are interesting to discuss nonetheless.

She added me as a friend last night. I'm working on it but it might take a while. I have a lot of respect for this woman so I don't want to rush it.

I google mapped it and Santa Clarita is about 40 minutes from Nichols Canyon (where the family's second house was located) and Loz Feliz (the first one).

While most former Family members do have criticism toward Jim Baker, the man, they speak very highly of Father Yod as their Earthly Spiritual Father, enough so that I don't doubt they would embellish. I recommend reading all evidence and articles with a grain of salt as all of it is personal anecdotes and there is no solid facts to back up any claims made.

While I believe some songs on UV are inspired by the Source Family, I don't think that all songs were inspired by them. So you won't see Old Money on this list for example, as it is clearly written for the Great Gatsby, inspired by the character of Daisy and written as an epilogue to Lana's Young and Beautiful.

I also believe Lana is inspired from many different things and she weaves them into her own story, either by becoming who she is writing about or imagining herself in a similar situation. She has said before that is in the habit of writing about several things in a song and tying them all together. For example, Video Games being about two different men, etc. So while some lyrics fit the Source theory, others will not as they are probably influenced either by her life or something else.

So hopefully now you have an idea of the Family, we'll jump into the evidence we have. Some of it will be stuff that I and other users have already posted on the UV thread, some will be new. Please note, this section will be updated as more info is discovered.

The Source Family and their Influence on Ultraviolence

General Evidence



Lyrical Evidence
While I believe some songs on UV are inspired by the Source Family, I don't think that all songs were inspired by them. So you won't see Old Money on this list for example, as it is clearly written for the Great Gatsby, inspired by the character of Daisy and written as an epilogue to Lana's Young and Beautiful.

I also believe Lana is inspired from many different things and she weaves them into her own story, either by becoming who she is writing about or imagining herself in a similar situation. She has said before that is in the habit of writing about several things in a song and tying them all together. For example, Video Games being about two different men, etc. So while some lyrics fit the Source theory, others will not as they are probably influenced either by her life or something else.

This section is about the pictures used for Ultraviolence vs pictures from The Source Family Archives as well as the soundscape Dan Auerbach and Lana came up with. Lana had stated that her new take on the UV album was "Unlistenable" with many different sounds, tempo changes, etc. Some of the Ya Ho Wha recordings sound very similar to how Lana re-did UV with the layered sounds, experimental vocals and tempo changes.

Their outlandish style, popular health food restaurant, rock band, and beautiful women made them the darlings of Hollywood’s Sunset Strip; but their outsider ideals and the unconventional behavior of their spiritual leader, Father Yod, caused controversy with local authorities.

Before we journey down the rabbit hole that is the Source Family, their leader Father Yod and the influence all of this may have had on Lana Del Rey and her album Ultraviolence, here is some background information of who they were and what they did:
 





There are also many excellent articles on Jim Baker, Father Yod and the Family available online. While I will be linking some of them here as references, I will mostly be focusing on the Family and their own personal interpretations of what was going on during the time they were active as I believe this is where Lana gathered most of her inspiration from. There are a lot of negative articles written about what actually was going on behind closed doors at the Family homes and while I'm sure some may be accurate, and will lend support to some theories, the writers of the articles were not a part of the Family and did not experience first hand what went on. While most former Family members do have criticism toward Jim Baker, the man, they speak very highly of Father Yod as their Earthly Spiritual Father, enough so that I don't doubt they would embellish. I recommend reading all evidence and articles with a grain of salt as all of it is personal anecdotes and there is no solid facts to back up any claims made.

^^Actually it was the People's Temple that committed mass suicide by drinking Flavor Aid (which everyone just called Kool-Aid). Almost 1,000 people died in that situation, a lot of them murdered instead of committing suicide.

I still have a portable cassette player, but I thought that Sony had stopped producing those. It's so rare nowadays for people to buy cassettes, is it really something interesting, in terms of profit ?
