No she's not actually according to U.S. Code § 0721 - Being a Sultry Modern Torch Singer, in which the second Lana cracks a smile she will be immediately thrown into a small spaceship and sent to the moon

    I know, it's stranger than a stranger.

How come she's able to write super complex and beautiful lyrics like

    Finally, I'm crossing the threshold
    From the ordinary world
To the reveal of my heart
    Undoubtedly, that will for certain
Take the dead out of the sea
And the darkness from the arts

and THEN write stuff like this

You're in the bar, playing guitar
I'm trying not to let the crowd next to me
It's so hard sometimes with the star
When you have to share him with everybody

And it puzzles me, for she has the talent and the brains to write songs like Get Free and Heroin but she will be remembered only for her dim-witted lazy lyrics like Groupie Love and many others. On the other hand I want to remain positive so I'll end this saying that I love the second part of the record and that BPBP is my super favourite.

Well, here goes nothing   I've had this theory for years..

So I have gathered similiar lyrics but did consider the "drive by sunday night" reference and the timing is also a bit earlier (making it line up with the release of Sirens). The difference though is that this crime took place in South LA. (We all know she travelled through the USA as mentioned in several songs and videos, I believe this was during her gap year. Tropico proves the LA theory as well)

The double homocide took place on April 6th 2004 (Sunday to Monday night"drive by sunday night" - For K)
at 2AM ("I was shot at 2AM" - Jump -> as in that's when Lana died, too, because she lost him forever because of the crime)
over a drug dispute (I'm not gonna quote obvious themes in her music )
Lana was 18 at the time (gap year)

Two men shot a man and three women (witnesses) in the Nickerson Gardens housing project, two of the women survived and one of them was brave enough to testify (She died September the same year, and her funeral took place in St. Paul's Baptist Chruch ("Swinging in and out of Old Paul's" - Video Games)

Sidenote: This could be a stretch but there's a Willowbrook street and a Willowbrook Park right next to the housing project ("See the willow bowing" - Out With A Bang)

In July 2004 one of the men (K) involved in the shooting was convicted to murder charge (the articles don't say the amount of years but I guess 30 could be it) The jury split about the question of death penalty and the 'phase of the case should be retried'. (Not important but the other man involved had a different trial as he didn't confess)

A piece of information that is missing is when they decided to put him on death row because in 2009 a judge denied to reduce his death sentence that's all I could find.

K was 28/27 in 2004, so he does kinda fall into the older man type. I mean 10 years apart for an 18 year old is a lot imo.

Now, his name is the most mind-blowing piece of information: Kai Harris (as in fucking K, Kai, KAY..)

    ITS JUST A THEORY THOUGH

PS: He's a lightskin black man ("golden skin" - several songs) with long dark hair (again) and a slender, muscular figure.

What a fantastic song, probably in her top 10 for me tbh. The Ride reference made me cry on first listen. I really see this as the conclusion to 'Video Games' - 'I never really noticed that I had to decide/To play someone’s game or live my own life/And I now I do'. It reminds me of the chorus.

Born To Die is an okay album though. Critics were too harsh at first judging it because most thought she was a phony, but even when the lyricism and melodies are taken into account, it still does not dismiss the fact that the album as a whole is way too heavy-handed in production - which was ultimately what one of the biggest complaints by critics about it.

So yeah while critics now look back on the BTD songs and see them as everything we expect Lana to be (in a positive way), they still aren't going to look back and praise it as her best work.

    I'm shooting for a 74 for LFL.

My quick review after two listen throughs:

Love - 6.5/10 Lana brought something unexpected with this track which was happiness and that makes it nice to listen to, but I don't think I will be coming back to it much

Lust for Life - 7/10 It's sincerely a cute track. Not much depth but it's not trying to be deep.

13 Beaches - 8/10 When those beats kick in! Godly! Strings at the beginning I am uncertain.

Cherry - 6.5/10 Perhaps just not my thing but I find it a little repetitive and there's a lot going on

White Mustang - 7.5/10 A really solid track, quintessentially Lana. Could've been a bit more fleshed out.

Summer Bummer - 8/10 I love A$AP and I love Lana and I love them singing together. A strong track, but I do wish there was either a rap or more singing on Lana's part - even speak-singing.

Groupie Love - 7.5/10 It is a great song and while I love A$AP I am still iffy about his verse - it seems a bit too generic, like anyone could've written it.

In My Feelings - 5/10 Not feeling it so much

Coachella - 6/10 Not a terrible song, works quite good as an interlude or a transition.

God Bless America - 8/10 Strong song, good message, and a nice beat.

WTWWAWWKD - 8.5/10 Very strong vocals and music

BPBP - 7.5/10 Their voices have a strange way of contrasting against each other starkly when singing separately but when singing together it is heavenly

Tomorrow Never Came - 9/10 It's made me cry last night it's made me cry this morning. Personal wishes, like wanting more tropical sounding Lana, push this one to the top for me. I just wish they had one more "Hey, Lady-lay" bit after the bridge and it would've been a 10.

Heroin - 7/10 I don't know how to feel about it quite yet, but I like the story inside it.

Change - 5/10 I know some critics were saying it's a strong song, but it was a little too stark and bare. I don't think I like Lana over a solo piano.

Get Free - 9/10 It sounds so Lana and yet like she has grown so much from the woman who released BTD 5 years ago. The direct reference to Ride especially pleases me as that is one of my top songs.

    Individual songs averaged - 7.5/10
As an album I would give it an 8 or 8.5/10!
