Warsaw, PL @ Orange Warsaw Festival - June 3rd, 2016
Thunder Revenant replied to WhiteHydrangea's topic in 2016 Festival Tour
What did you expect? We all know she'll always stick to BtD live. I'd also prefer not having Carmen and Ride on the setlist and instead hearing TBD and BBY live but it's Lana. At least she did some "fresh"-er BtD songs (Lolita, OTTR). And I doubt she'll ever drop Cola, BJ and BtD and I'm fine with that since they are nice live. And the Freak/Art Deco thing is so overrated, the songs have 0 to do with each other apart from being gapless on HM -

Serial Killer, Lolita, Off To The Races, Freak, HBTB and HM ... What's y'all problem with the setlist? -

Love her look! She should keep it. And I really like the playlist. What did y'all expect? Apart from that, it's not even the HM tour. Glad she did Lolita and Freak. -
Never liked Alphabet Boy thst much but the video made me appreciate the track. She improved so much with her looks ... glad she's not looking like a clown anymore. The Cry Baby styling was already quite good but damn this AB look is great. The hairstyle is so ... classy.

Lana spotted yesterday visiting a beauty salon. She's went BLONDE!
Thunder Revenant replied to Dua Lipa's topic in Sightings
She looks great. Maybe she wants to let her natural hair color grow back. I hope we'll get a photoshoot. Plus I hope she sticks to the light hair colors, even though I like dark hair light colors just suit her so much better -
She's not forced to acknowledge you or give anything to you. You approached her in her private life and even though I can somehow understand you why you did it, you should be happy about the contact you had. You interrupted her privacy and she was polite. She's not owing you ANYTHING, so stop acting as if you are a poor neglected fan. It's so annoying that within many fanbases people think they are free to harass their star whenever they see them and that it's ok to behave super obsessive without considering how creepy this may come off for the star. If you are a fan you should RESPECT the person.

I wonder when she will cancel. -
Haha my impact I really love her nusic and I think her first album is her best one so far (I love The Lipstick On His Collar so much). Following her on FB, I wish Lana would promote her new stuff as much as Caro is still promoting her old one The queen of retro sound

What musical direction should Lana go in for LDR5?
Thunder Revenant replied to ilovetati's topic in Lana Thoughts
She nevr did jazz at any point, she just likes dome older jazz songs and loves to throw the word around. And she seems to be very comfortable with it, they played a jazz instru at the Maide session etc. -

Nothing about her has anything to do with Lana -
I love Nicole's photos but I get what you mean. I also always think it looks off to display LolitaIn The Hood/ Gangsta Nancy Sinatra Lana, when her style changed so much in both a mature but also often much less glamorous direction. On the other side, who can blame them, there are not really a lot of "good to use" promo pics from more recent eras.

The one song on HM where her indifferent lyrics are NOT out of place but actually quite fitting is HBTB though -

I agree with you that HM has a lot of great bridges 24 is wonderful and yeah, MTWBT, HBTB and TLY also really stick out. For HM, the bridge is where the song actually seems to lead to. However, I find the Art Deco bridge to be especially ... weak, compared to the other ones. -
The music she's creating is alternative pop though. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike HM or want her to be super-popular (even though I don't mind her being) but her overall attitude during HM was alarming as it tended to be lethargic.
-
The thing is that Lana is a pop-oriented artist and even if many people here really would LOVE her to be an alternative singer, she's not. And btw, even alternative artists do much more than Lana when it comes to performances, music videos etc. Their stuff maybe won't appear in the mainstream media, but they still usually provide a lot of material APART from the base album for their fans. Lana should care more because a) she is not an established artist in a way that she can go fully non-commercial and b) doing some sort of promo is also related to actually providing your fans some stuff.
-
The thing is she's not promoting at all. Some super boring instagram pics on an account noone cares about and two sloppy radio interviews are NOTHING. Her music videos seem to be recorded in a way they MOST CERTAINLY won't be played at the TV and her singles get no airplay. On the one side, it's her choice if she prefers to not promote her stuff in order to earn money, but for fans it's really annoying not getting something interesting to watch/listen to. HM just stayed away from the "biggest flops list" because it could still surf on the waves BtD and UV made. If she's not doing SOMETHING for her next album and continues to stay in her super-comfort zone when it comes to music, like she did with HM, her career WILL decline.

Freak Music Video Premiering February 9th
Thunder Revenant replied to Say Yes to Heaven's topic in New Releases
Like I said, the parts are most likely from a cult inspired video. But I just don't think they are supposed to lead into this direction in the final product. In the end, it's just some weird red thing she drinks and it could be another reference to addiction. -

You see, I think many people just would have NEVER had the cult leader theory if it wasn't for the fact that we knew it was originally for UV. So it's not really about interpretations but interpretating what you WANT to see. I don't even dismiss that those cult things might be in the video because I really believe UV would have been a cult-wives video and the shots from the HM trailer really seemed cult-esque. But the way we HAVE it it has nothing to do with a cult. Really, nothing. The way the cult girlies are used makes it obvious they are intended to be parts of the hallucination and the whole Freak song has nothing to do with cults. I think you should not always over-interpet stuff, because I think Freak is what it seems to be: a video about an LSD trip. FJM acts weird and that mateches the Freak aspect. Long time drug addicts often have symptoms where they seem to be "mad", so it still matches the LSD thing. People just desperately WANT a cult leader video (I also hoped for one) and the scenes somehow match it because they were most likely MEANT for a cult-leader-video, but the way it IS right now, the way it is cut, the scenes that are used ... it really doesn't seem to be FOCUSSED on any cult-related story. -

I'm not talking about what it could be, I'm talking about what it is. And the way it is, it has NOTHING to do with a cult. Of course, in the original the dancing girls COULD have been cult wives (especially this one scene from the HM trailer seems very cult like) but the way we have it right now, those girls are definitly supposed to be LSD hallucinations. Being in a desert and the clothes FJM and Lana wear are not really any cult-esque, could just be redneck territory aswell. -

I don't know hwere you all still get the cult vibes. The only cult-esque part is the one with the girls dancing in a circle, which was not even included in the final video. The whole video being about being high on a drug makes actually much more sense. -

The Other Woman is her best cover, it's one of the best songs on UV and fits the album PERFECTLY! It's a great closer aswell. However, DLMBM is just ... hm. Swan Song would have been a perfect closer but DLMBM just feels like the obligatory last-track cover. Her vocal performance is nice but the production is soaking out all of the life. -
Oh, well i did not want to come it across as if I would state it as a fact, it's just my opinion. I like HM, but it's just ... subpar compared to the other stuff she put out. And one of the reasons I think so is that the production is extremely undiverse and ... somehow lazy, at least that's my opinion. It's a good album but being a Lana fan I'd expect her to be capable of more. However, as much as I don't want to bash her it's terrible to see how some people here overrate her, and I'm actually already a quite big fan. Lana's lyrics are nowhere near "exceptional good" and she's not a "trailblazer".
-
Well, I think that comparison is kind of unfair since you can do a vice versa comparison by picking any less interesting lyric from BtD and compare it to a better one of HM, but yeah, I get what you want. I actually don't have any problems with the chorus not having to much lyical content, there are a lot of great songs which chorus just contains one sentence that''s repeated or something like that. I guess it's just the overall "wording". BtD had songs that really had a lot of text compared to HM. Ultraviolence had songs that had more simple lyrics, but in this case they were focussed on transmitting an atmosphere or her vocal qualities. But on HM, it often seems that there is no focus on neither the lyrics nor the atmosphere or delivery, no stunning lyricism nor exploding choruses or instrumentals that are pushing any boundaries. Every song is a nice song, but they often make you expect that the next song on the album will be a different one again, which ios sadly not really the case. It's like Lana got inspired by Adele's "I'm not gonna do ANYTHING new or diverse" mentality, the problem just is that unlike with Adele, people will not buy Lana's stuff without listening to it.

Having your own artistic universe is fine, but you should expand it. Just look at all the unreleased songs: Of course they were never meant to be heard so they can't be counted for the "official LDR universe" but you can already find almost all of the tropes she explored so far within them, meaning she ticks to the same topics for at least 8 years now. Of course each album had it's own little thing going on, BtD was the romantic "Lolita in the hood" topic, Paradise had some more Americana stuff going on, UV was about being "the mistress on the side" for an abusive man and HM had some more "thoughtful" base, but in the end her themes are quite limited. Not that I want her to sing a feminist anthem, but it would be a big progress if we had an album that's not mainly circled around relationships
