Lana performing more UV songs on tour?
Thunder Revenant replied to Honeymooner's topic in Lana Thoughts
There is a difference between performing a few old songs because everyone likes them and doing the same playlist over an over again because you are lazy. Lana had a new album released, usually artists perform mostly new songs and 1/2 old songs then before doing a "mix" playlist again -
She collabed with I-G-G-Y. DId you really expect anything good to happen?
-
Yeah, but that was not the OP question, was it?

ok I agree with you in this point. If you are really searching for JF elements in her music you may find them at some points. But that would mean she has influences from a genre which is influenced by jazz. But that was not the subject, was it? People claime there are Jazz-Influences all over the place and that she does her own kind of jazz on UV. However, the only reason they believe this is because Lanz throws the word "Jazz" around a lot lately and because it sounds artsy to say your fave does future jazz or anything like this. Because you would never ever associate her with actually DOING jazz music when you hear her music. Maybe if you went into real depth you could say "Some parts of UV could even be influenced by genres like Jazz fusion". But that's it.

Afraid, easy choice. Boring and not really special in any way. I like the rest, I guess my second "least-liked" one is Teenage Wasteland.

Well, if y'all are insisting ... In my opinion the jazz-connection is reaching on high levels, because it's nothing that obviously strikes you when you listen to ANY Lana Del Rey song, But I guess opinions are opinions. Still I think it's wrong to associate Lana to jazz. I am not a Gaga stan, but IF one of them is actually doing jazz music, it's Gaga. I can see rock influences, alternative, indie and pop influences for Lana, but no Jazz connection.

and some people obviously want Lana to be jazz-influenced so hard that they will just repeat it until they believe it themselves.
-
Still it sounds average because her coice doesn't fit the song and the accent is so overexaggerated. Plus they should have picked a song with less explicity. Or at least also changed the anachronism line aswell, when they already crippled some lines ( I mean, of course the character of Lange wouldn't use explict words, but "oh yeah give it to me" sounds so flat) I think they mostly picked the song because it's a dark one and the most "freak-ish", without considering the problems resulting from some of the lyrics.

Darling .. just ... no. The Other Woman is a jazz song. But Lana's version is no jazz version. Nothing on UV has anything to do with jazz. The only thing where you could see a vague jazz influence with lots of goodwill is Sad Girl, but that's it. My parents are big jazz fans, so I know how jazz sounds, how different classic and less classic versions of jazz sound. Lana's music has 0 to do with jazz. There is this difference between "influence" and "inspiration" which lots of fans have missed. Go ask anyone who is not a Lana fan if he hears jazz influences. he will laugh at you. Y'al are reaching for this because Lana keeps on brabbeling about jazz. But just because she loves jazz music and because it's one of her new favourite words, this won't magically add jazz influences to her music.

YEAH REALLY SO TRUE I NOTICED IT TOO! The only difference is that Gags actually makes Jazz music and Lana just keeps on repeating the word "J-A-Z-Z" but her music really has nothing to do with the genre. Even though some fans here really start to believe she does "Future Jazz" or anything ... So you can say that she at least brainwashed them successfull

I mean, this would be great but don't get too excited. We all know that, in case of doubt, artists need loooonger than expected (hence we all are Marina AND Lana fans ...)

Lana Del Rey to be covered in American Horror Story

Hm, her Life On Mars cover definitly was way better. I think her voice doesn't really fit the song and the lyric changes "messed up holiday" and "oh yeah" really take out a lot of dynamics and makes the lines sound flat.+ I mean, ok, it wouldn't have fit her and her character if she used the f-word, but why choose a song with so much explicity then? The change to the "fucked hard" line is not as severe, it still sounds ok. And if they change that much, why not change the anachronism Jim Morrison line aswell? I also think they've overdone the accent on this one, even if you are german you can sing a word without sounding clippy. The only thing I really like is what they did to the instrumental, it sounds great without straying to far from the original. -

I think the main problem here is the understanding of "anachronism". It's not an anachronism if they sing a David Bowie song in 1950. Because it's possible for someone in 1950 to come up with the words for the song aswell. If you then perform the song in the style of the 50s, it's perfectly allright. But if the LYRICS of the song which are actually sung by a character which is supposed to be from the 50s, this is a big anachronism because there is no way that she could already know about Jim Morrisons future fame (ok if the girl who can see the future would have sung it ...). It's not that I can not bear this but it is indeed strange, since FS hasn't had any signs of toying with anachronisms yet. still excited on how it will turn out. Could be great but also could easily be a flop because Jess hasn't got the right voice for this peace. -

Well, it's a difference isn't it? A Lana Del Rey song hasn't got a "MADE BY LANA DEL REY, BORN IN 1985" Label on it when you sing it, but Jim Morrison was a small boy back then, so this doesn't make sense. -

"No one's gonna take my soul away, I'm living like -" *random cut to some other place, where people are talking and you can just hear some muffeling of the song in the background* *cut back to Jessica singing* ".. headed towards a fucked up hoooolidaaaay"
