I said it once and I'll say it again... the background vocals on Season Of The Witch really make the song. Sooo good.
 
The "When I look over my shoulder (What happens then??) " part gave me STRONG Shangri-Las teas. Like wow...just wow. Whenever she does 60's/70's stuff shes truly in her element!

I so badly wish Looking for America was on her album. It would be such a good addition like Change/Coachella

Lana has, I think, always been enamored of an idea of retro-Americana that only ever existed as a pop culture fantasy--which she knows and acknowledges ("You make me wanna be like one of those girls / From the 1950s wearing those big pearls / On the color TV," etc), so...she is still looking for that fantasy she was promised ("I heard the streets were paved with gold / That's what my father said.") Real events on the news pop that fantasy bubble, not that she really thinks we should go back to how things literally were in earlier times. Her nostalgia is bittersweet because she knows it's for something not real ("I feel nostalgic and I don't even know what for", she said in an interview). 
 
For me, the best example of Lana!America vs. Real!America in the National Anthem video...when JFK was actually president, there was still racial segregation in the US. In the video, she has an African-American JFK to show she's romanticizing the aesthetics...the American "Camelot" it was called...NOT the racism of the actual time period. I think of "Looking for America" that way too...looking for a dream.
 
So...that's why I don't find that problematic, but I do see and respect why some of you do. 
 
Anyway...almost 3,000 pages! Go team!

Everyone must have already said this but Looking for America has the reflection and nuance that Coachella can only dream of. Maybe it's because the arrangement is so acoustic and chill, but it makes Coachella even more mawkish and clumsy.

Has anyone ever considered that perhaps she attends AA meetings or NA meetings at the church? That yellow tab on her key chain in the recent pic is deff an NA/AA coin. It usually says a time like “10 years” or 1day” or “6 years” etc

I got from it the safety aspect. Like she used to take for granted that you could go anywhere and not be worried about a mass shooting

That streaming version's second verse makes much more sense now - her describing what she was doing before in her life and then summing it up with "so many things I think about before I do... NOW" instead of "...YEAH ". That suggests reflecting on her previous actions and fits the narrative, meanwhile the yeah version just sounds like a "it's a Lana song so I'll sing about bars because it's me". I loved it before but I appreciate it so much more now that I think I got what the hell the second verse is about
 
Edit: On another listen I also assumed that thinking twice about going to the drive ins could be because of safety reasons? Like she feels threatened walking out at night like in GBA and stuff? What do you guys think?
