Just noticed this...guess she'd liked this song for awhile and so decided to do it for BBC Live Lounge, 6 months later. I mean, it was really always her song; way back in 2010 she wrote "break up with your girlfriend / and let me move in" in Midnite Dancer Girlfriend.

I mean, I get it, the dresses are going for a 1970s Laurel Canyon vibe, but I hate them anyway. I think it would be cuter to go full Norman Rockwell with some 1950s vintage babydoll dresses (for my "I Doooooo" or not). But she SOUNDS amazing on this tour -

I wouldn't be at all surprised if she did "California" but only for the California shows... -
It let me login with Facebook and said I had "5 downloads left" without going Pro...but then it did NOT let me download, just "save to favorites", and said "Restricted to Pro Members" to download. WAIT, GOT IT!!!! Not sure if it's ok to share the link? If you Google "Lana Del Rey Shades Of Cool Acapella" and "stomp3" it's the first one. And then Google translate.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pb9hv7JpCxQ OH MY GOD, I had never ever heard the "hidden" lyrics in the bridge before. My wig is gone. I disliked the loud, aggressive guitar on that bridge anyway, so this is my new official version. You're hot, hot Weather in the summer High, high Neglectful lover Hot, hot Weather in the summer High, neglectful lover You're crumbling, sadly You're sadly, crumbling So the "Heroin" bridge is a bit of a callback to this, too... ("hot, hot, winter in the city, somethin' bout this weather" etc)

The two duets are enchanting! Probably the only time she'll do either live, so that's very special. I hope there are surprise guests on the rest of the tour! Random thought: what if Barry was in one of the California shows...and they dueted "Summer Wine" and then she sang "California" to him on stage? I get chills just imagining.

102.7 KIIS FM with JoJo Wright - August 29th, 2019 [Video]

What you did there, I see it. -
I love this song SO MUCH. And it just struck me today that the lines "I hope you remember me like this, Smokin' cigarettes in my sundress, Glamorous and gangtsa, oh yes." ...are like a way more badass version of Taylor Swift on "Wildest Dreams": "Say you'll remember me Standing in a nice dress, staring at the sunset babe Red lips and rosy cheeks" (one of the only Tay songs I truly like, but still can't compare to Lana). Pure coincidence I'm sure, but it makes me laugh to think of Tay listening to this is 2013 and getting inspired to write the G-rated version and release it the very next year.

Maybe she was giving "devil horns" when she recorded it.

I took it as her seeing all these perfect "Norman Rockwell" relationship images while acknowledging that her relationship is kinda messed up, which I love. I've changed how I interpret the song; at first I thought she was comparing the man to Norman Rockwell (the actual artist), but after reading her interview: "Del Rey told Vanity Fair earlier this year that the album name was a tongue-in-cheek reference to the state of the American Dream. “It was kind of an exclamation mark: so this is the American dream, right now,” she said, adding that “this is where we’re at—Norman fucking Rockwell. We’re going to go to Mars, and Trump is president, all right.” The album is named for the iconic 1940s illustrator known for his patriotic depictions of America during World War II, a time when it seemed that America at least attempted to market itself as standing for some ideal." So, the title of the song/album is a sarcastic take on America and on her relationship, like, "things are crazy in this country and I'm fucking a man-child who's a pretentious mess, not exactly a Norman Fucking Rockwell painting, now is it?!" We stan a sarcastic queen.

It does sound like "phones", but "Vogues" makes more sense, like I'll pick up all the escapist magazines you like, anything to try to get you out of your head...I see it as not necessarily romantic love (although it could be), but more like she still loves Barrie as a friend and knows how bad his depression gets, and she's pleading with him to let her distract him from all that for awhile and just give him a big hug ("lying in my arms" could just mean holding him, not sex). This song BREAKS MY HEART and I LOVE IT, ugh. I can imagine saying this to my (depressed) ex, whom I don't want back but do want to help. When she says, "I'll throw a party" it sounds so desperate and sad, she finally achieved Lizzy Grant's stated goal of writing a song that sounds like 'A SAD PARTY'!

I keep hearing it as "our love's a lie" instead of "alive" which would be a completely different song indeed.

Lana to be on soundtrack for 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'
BoardingSchool replied to Elle's topic in New Releases
That isn't the official title...it's an untitled project. It modernizes the book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, but it's not an actual film that's in production yet; the interview says SHE'S writing a film (script?) and songs, but who knows if she'll self-produce or if it'll get picked up by a studio or if nothing ever comes of it, haha. It sounds very much in the research/writing stage. That said, maybe she should see if her friend Guillermo del Toro would like to direct...? -
Playing LOUDLY all the way through for the first time. Got chills and started crying during "Love Song" and again on "California". The only low point for me is the cracktacular sleigh bells (?) added to HTD. I prefer the original BAR but am treating it as a different song from "Next BAR"...like a 2-parter. My favorites are "Cinnamon Girl" which I expected, and "FIILY", which I didn't. And "California." Definitely. It references one of my favorites ever, "Flipside", so how could I not? UV is still my favorite Lana album, but this is now in 2nd place for me.

Lana leaving Churchome in Beverly Hills, CA - August 21st, 2019

"Another Day in Paradise" -
At first I was like, nah, but after listening again...I think you're right! That makes more sense than the other options too. She used to shoot up drugs, but now she's high on music? Also, I think it's "though everyone adores you, you CAN'T feel it and you're tired" rather than "you CAN feel it"...meaning--you're tired, numb, not feeling loved even though you are actually loved by so many.
-
It's "Baby's lock n' load tonight" not "locking low" (which makes no sense)!
-
Wait, it's about global warming and the apocalypse, isn't it?! Suddenly "lit" means something completely different--war, bombs, etc, the world literally set on fire. The near-miss in Hawaii, the fires in L.A...she's afraid, with so many disasters happening, it could be The End at any time, so if it's the end of the world, this is her signing off. We'll have to move to Mars because we've ruined our planet...at the end, she's listening to it live on the news right before we all die...and then just near-silence for almost a minute, because the world has ended. Mind. Blown. I see why Jack said it was her best: it's about losing our Mother Earth, the greatest loss of all.
