Lana is NOT under the Illuminati's control FFS.
This whole Illuminati conspiracy theory is quite silly, really. Christian religion is not the only one that is good. If people follow other philosophies, it doesn't mean they are evil.

    Thanks for this!

Okay, so I put all of the songs I suspect she had in mid-2011 or so in a playlist. I included unreleased songs, AKA, its demos, Sirens, other May Jailer material, and all of the Born to Die demos since at least a few of them should have existed by then.  I included all unreleased demos and instrumentals. I took out anything that occurred in 2012 or later (so Ridin', Summer Wine, etc.) as well as any live performances.

I got 199 songs. Give or take some of the BTD demos (some could have been made after the hack) and taking into consideration the 25 or so songs we know exist but don't have, we are at least in the ballpark of 211 so Lana wasn't just making a random number up. Assuming some of the titles we have came after 2011, that might bring it down even closer to 211. But there might also be songs we don;t even have the title to that were hacked, so that should be accounted for also. 211 might not be the exact number, but it is close, and I think we can put to rest any ideas that there are still 100+ unreleased songs floating around.

Remember how frustrated and bemused you used to be when every article about her got her date of birth wrong? That's the same feeling a lot of us have when article after article, year after year, presents her career as this 90 degree sharp turn from airheaded blonde pop starlet Lizzy Grant to dark enchanting creation of back room managers Lana Del Rey, without even bothering to look at what she was doing when she had a different hair colour. It's not even like they need to go out and buy a record - they just have to sit at home and spend a bit of time on Youtube.

Just because decent journalism is rare doesn't mean we should give terrible writing a pass.

Very true. Any writer that can write something as bland and outright wrong as "That nastiness pervaded her new identity as well. Lizzy Grant was all about blond sweetness, but Lana Del Rey flaunted her obsessions with fatalism, death, seediness, and danger" can be ignored completely. It's not only that they've obviously never listened to a Lizzy Grant era song, it's that this is just the old authenticity/persona debate that we should be well and truly past be now.

Nobody gets to declare anyone else 'silenced' because of their gender/sexuality/... - that's one of the good things about the internet.

    She got her OWN network.

Oh, I never said this article was good or even close to accurate. I completely agree with you that it's shoddy and they get her wrong. I just don't think it's all that negative.

I think this is jumping to conclusions. Maybe this is why, maybe not. But if we're going to read that much into tweets, then Daddy Grant apparently didn't have a problem with it. The Robster tweeted a link to it and hasn't deleted it.

This pretty much covers my feelings, and I'm enjoying the discussion here. I don't think the clip is inherently pro- or anti-rape, and I don't think any reaction to 'transgressive' art is wrong. It's meant to elicit strong reaction, but that doesn't mean people are being out of line by having those strong (negative) reactions.

i think that's precisely where the sniping remarks come from. maxim doesn't care about what's inside. their angle is always sex; not brains / creativity / style (or music, even). all the other publications that interview her typically come from other angles. but the fact that lana has so much external beauty (the main focus of maxim) in addition to a massively complex internal world; well that will always be off putting to some people (particularly someone at maxim, i'd imagine)

this might make me sound like some feminazi dyke with a bra and a bic (or whatever politically warped cliche i'm about to perpetuate), but i think many men are terrified of beautiful women. now give said woman a brain and most would probably consider her to be a legitimate threat and/or danger to their well being (or ego, lord forbid)

its not just women that 'hate' other women. men can be just as cruel, but for different reasons
