Tbh I hope Lana doesn't get a stylist. I like that wears whatever the hell she wants and things that SHE obviously likes.

Ultraviolence has a higher rating then pure heroine on metacritic

After a second watch I think it's just "ok"

I think it is her worst video, but I'm hoping the PWYC video is better.

The main problem I have with it is the finger sucking thing. It's so gross and just doesn't make sense.

HA! Yes. I mean, Summer Wine was probably recorded with an iPhone too, but that video is pretty nice, not just walking around in a wedding dress

The video would kinda work for a filler track ie. Sad Girl. But Ultraviolence is not a filler track - it's possibly the most important track on the record (especially due to it being the title track). As such, it deserved something epic and at least a monologue.

Blue Jeans didn't had too much going on, but it was atmospheric and still somehow told us a story.
I don't hate this new video, but you can just see that there was 0 effort put into it and the scenes y'sll are trying to interpret seem very random to me. There is not really any passion behind it, that's what's bothering me. And however she will explain and make excuses for this in interwievs, the video will stay boring. Not because it was filmed on a phone or because it has no plot but because it was filmed without any motivation.

Yeah I'm with technicolor, I don't really care about her videos. None of them are really interesting to me. Her brilliant music, which I listen to every day is what captures me. So it's nice to see someone else say that. Because a lot of fans get excited about the videos but I hardly watch them and haven't seen most of them.

I don't think it's that we want Lana to be predictable because that would be impossible, it's that there is a certain level of quality and effort that still needs to be present whether it's a multimillion dollar music video or one shot on an iPhone. If the Ultraviolence video was executed well I would have no problem with it, but the lack of effort is so apparrent. It's almost like she said, Ultraviolence is the new single so lets shoot a video so I can give them something.

its not about being glossy, its about her utilizing all the resources at her disposal to create something truly amazing (i.e ride). she's got the mind and she's got the money (whereas most pop stars only have the latter)

For the first time I really don't like Lana's video!
It looks like video made with phone camera just for fun. It's not about quality cause for ex. Summer Wine look similar and I really like it.
This video looks like a joke... I am disapointed.
And her mimicry looks affected. And her lips looks bigger again. I don't like it at all. She should stop with lip fillers.

You call this work? Eating an orange in a wedding dress, filmed with an iphone? I don't think so...

I didn't grow up in the film industry, but I love cinema and to me this was far from beautiful. Even her homemade vids were more interesting and creative than this "video". This is plain awful and it's not even original, she's a parody of herself in the SS video as she even used the same filter/effects. She also looks terrible.

I respect your opinion but this is certainly not my cup of tea.

lol this isn't very good.  LDRO says it was filmed in italy?  I wonder if that italian guy filmed it.  I can't even imagine that conversation. "Hey baby i know we just met but can you film me looking depressed and sad in a wedding dress?  k thanks"

You guys really need to simmer the hell down sometimes.

It's a preview and the aesthetic could be perfect for the video's plot. And when did we start expecting Lana to be conventional with glossy, commercial videos? I, for one, love how continually innovative she is with each new video.

I feel like it would be bad for it to be an extension, tbh. The way she ended the album was great and should be left how she left it.

An addition, like an 8 track EP would be nice, of course, but I don't know how it would fit onto the end of UV. I feel like it would be good as just an EP with nothing to do with UV

Sal Mineo was a great guy who liked to screw around, mainly with guys, but few people think less of him because of that. Marilyn, on the other hand is still viewed as a slut by ignorant moralists. She was only liberated, ahead of her time, tame compared to today's girls... Double standards really suck.

Lana's polyamory (if that is the right word... I think she has used the word "polygamy" but that doesn't seem to fit either) has been making me uncomfortable for awhile now -- but also opening my eyes to what it must be like for people who openly defy conventional mores. And frankly, some conventional mores need defying.

I say this as someone who wishes there was more room in our culture for both women and men who wish to pursue celibacy before marriage. I grew up in purity culture; I was raised to see "girls who do" as something Other, and my parents even questioned whether a close female friend of mine was "a good person" upon finding out she was sexually active. I am ashamed to admit I bought into it long enough to wonder how I would relate to my own daughter if she grew up to be someone "believing in sex before marriage."

THIS is cultural insanity. THIS is what is mentally unbalanced: pitting "good girls" against "bad girls," friends against friends, even mothers against daughters. This is what should outrage us: shaming women (regardless of their choices) for being embodied as sexual beings, shaming men (and women) for being attracted to them as sexual beings, and passing on plenty of sexual hang-ups to our daughters AND our sons, whether they are people who "do" or "don't."

The double standard doesn't work for us anymore, if it ever did. And attempting the pseudo-egalitarian solution of slut-shaming men as well as women doesn't cut it either. The world is becoming more complicated (culturally... sexually... ) and maybe that scares some people. But maybe this is an opportunity to find other ways of encouraging each other to be more loving, respectful, honorable human beings instead of resorting to the implication "just be more like me so I can feel better about you as well as myself." Many of us are not buying it anymore, and for that I am grateful. For my daughter's sake, and for the sake of other people's sons and daughters, I am grateful.

LDR is not alone in portraying female sexual empowerment; as others have pointed out, artists like Miley Cyrus are creating space for women to be fully embodied as themselves (for better or worse -- it is possible to see both, and still welcome the greater space). Lana is just more overtly analytical about it. I say we need her voice, even if I personally disagree with hers sometimes. I hope she doesn't suffer remorse for it. I hope she realizes she is on the front lines of something big -- even if she didn't ask for the confrontation, I hope she decides that being true to herself is worth it.

Not sure what someone who is uncomfortable with female sexuality was doing listening to LDR in the first place . . .

Dude you need to relax a bit.  I mean it's really none of our business. You shouldn't project your morality onto her.

I hate how Lana's starting to talk and act more like a normal, responsible and mature human being, and you guys who were all for her wanting to kill herself and acting like a tantrum-prone three year old in all her interviews start criticising her for her perfectly normal and healthy sex life. Plus I' m pretty sure that whole "I slept with a lot of guys in the industry" was a joke.

Guys, she's just getting out of a 3 year relationship, if you seriously think what she's saying is abnormal then it's likely because she's still coming to terms with their breakup. It's kind of hilarious how you guys are suggesting Lana has sone sort of personality disorder... because you notice her behaving and talking irrationally.

Seriously guys. Just look at yourselves.

I'm not going to go into your whole post mainly because I don't know Lana personally, so any narrative on her psychological issues really count for naught. I'm not saying she does or she doesn't have issues, but if I'm honest the majority of people I know have their own issues anyway. There are things in your post I both agree and disagree with, however, this point really stuck out to me and I felt the need to reply.

I don't see how promiscuity (alleged or not) contradicts 'being a good person, helping the community and being with family.' To be honest I think this whole social construct of wholesomeness, particularly where women are involved, is an old fashioned ideology lingering to the present day. Just because someone likes to have sex doesn't make them a bad person, and though it may not fit into a stereotypical paradigm of a 'good, wholesome' person does not in any way detract from your personality in reality. I, for one, know plenty of guys who sleep around, but they have hearts of gold and are basically mummy's boys. They're good, family orientated people, and just because they like to spend time between the sheets doesn't make it not so.
I'm not talking about leading people on and all of that sort of stuff, I'm talking about just the physical act of sex. I know there could be hundreds of reasons why someone chooses to sleep around, including psychological problems like a need for validation, but I also think it can be for a healthy reason, of just enjoying yourself and having fun. You only live once, and your life is made from your choices, so whatever you choose (promiscuity or not), enjoy it. I don't know Lana's own reasons, and the public may react with disgust, but that's simply because the majority are still in line with an old fashioned view.
