while there's def some ignorance re: the struggles of poc musicians throughout the decades in her casual naming dropping of some of those artists, it's disingenuous to read her first paragraph as racist; she basically just picked the most famous/successful female artists rn, most if not all also artists she's friendly with and/or a fan of. the entire point of her post is that women should be able to write & sing about whatever the fuck they want without being shamed for doing so, so turning that single paragraph into world wide stan wars™️ is pretty damn sad.

I love how everyone calling Lana racist has failed to read where she mentions making PERSONAL REPARATIONS to the Native American community......

I deleted my twitter page a few days ago. I just went in now to see a little of what people are saying, and needed to close it. For my own mental health, I'm not reading the garbage people tweet. It's their problem that they refused to read beyond the fourth sentence she wrote. 
 
 
I hope her management doesn't force her to do one of those PR apologies. She did nothing wrong and shouldn't apologize for people lacking reading comprehension.

To me at least, feminism is about choice. Lana obviously chooses to take on a more vulnerable role in the relationship, and perhaps life in general, but she might feel judged for that based on how feminism these days is about being dominant and nothing else. Not every woman wants to be that way, and that's fine! Unfortunately not everyone is understanding of this. You can still be a strong woman and fall head over heels for the person you love. Lots of things can coexist.
 
With LFL, she obviously felt the need to tone down her vulnerability for the critics, and I think that's why the album to some of us felt disingenuous. Around the time of release she also dropped the "he hit me and it felt like a kiss" line from her live performances of UV, which personally I was disappointed with. True feminism to me is about being unapologetic. To let your guard down and embrace femininity in the way you choose to show it, regardless of how submissive it may be. We all know Lana can stick up for herself and to speak her mind (especially to men).
 
Since day one, Lana has always been an easy target purely because she embraced her submissive side during the time where it was becoming popular for women to thrive off of their dominance in music. Critics bashed her, picked apart her lyrics, painted her as something she's not. Now I'm not saying there aren't some questionable things she has sung about, but that's what art is all about, right? It's not supposed to please people. It's supposed to shock people. To make people question things. It is what it is.

I feel bad for Lana because of this. She had an actual message she wanted to send out and its rare for her to speak out, and then when she does it becomes a scandal. I hope she continues to voice her opinion and doesnt let this discourage her. Also I hope she learns from this and next time words things better.

If you think she was bashing the other female artists she listed then you need to learn the difference between judging and using someone else’s behaviour as an example, if you drag her for this post then you’re part of the problem with stifling female voices, she’s saying “look you hold these other artists up for singing lyrics I want to sing, but when I do I get judged and that’s not okay” you can tell she’s fed up of the scrutiny, give her a fucking break

she’s being so open about her emotions lately and I can’t help but say that it makes me kind of emotional. u go lana!!!

I Def feel her and her frustration but namedropping mostly women of color wasn't a way to go about it. Twitter stans will get bored soon enough but no one's going to want to give her the benefit of the doubt after she dated a cop who's racially profiled black people on TV and called him "one of the good ones" lol. I'm just glad she probably won't see that and it'll fade into the background soon enough. I'm here for this Lana, the Lana that tells critics they crossed a line when they go too far (like w Ann Powers), the Lana who posted so openly on mother's day about how the day is difficult for her in so many ways. She's taking no prisoners.

Oh yeah, she's definitely going to take issue with Lanz name dropping Black women.

the post itself wasn’t meant to drag anyone BUT the critics. I must admit I do feel uncomfortable with the name dropping in the beginning but she does have a point (although she could’ve just not named anyone and still made the same point). I’m proud of her for sticking up for herself and I think that she deserves to write about what she wants. us as fans are always gonna support her and listen to what she has to say whether it’d be good or bad. she has helped so many people around the world with her music; the music that she herself made and wrote, unfiltered. yes, maybe it was uncalled for, the name dropping, but she did get her point across; if they can write about being sexy, wearing no clothes, fucking, cheating etc. she believes that she can do that too without having to put up with the critics that have been so harsh on her for the past 10 years. I completely support this statement and I am so so so excited for whats to come for her. she deserves the best

i think what makes me most happy about the post, aside from the empowerment ofc poetry books and even the album is like. jeez how real emotions are, and how important it is to get them out. and that it's alright to express them. like- jeez since when was being sad such a crazy thing, it happens everyday, and having that omitted can be an even more frustrating thing. I don't see anything that Lana wrote as bad or controversial. This is her story and for fucks sake, we all been around to see what the press, some celebrities and the media put her through. Don't forget that people like Kim Gordon said out loud why Lana doesn't just kill herself already. God knows all that woman said about Lana when she was promoting her stupid book stuff like "why doesn't she die already" and compared Lana to prostitutes and porn stars because of a scene in the video Ride. That just Kim. There were many other woman in the public attacking Lana. And what happens? Her music, aesthetics and vision opened many doors for the likes of Billie and Dua. They win all the accolades and awards. Lana? Nothing. So let her rant and rave all she wants. Camilla and Taylor literally stealing music video ideas from her for years and she's kept quite. As for her videos especially Gods and Monsters, ya'll know her being in a red bikini doing a half ass pole dance is tamed compared to what some of these other girls in the scene are doing.
 
Some of you millennials are so over sensitive and whiny about everything. Simmer down. Ya'll acting like Lana just got done boiling puppies or something. 

Personally, I think if society thinks lana is moving us backwards by speaking her truth as a woman who happens to be submissive and is maybe okay with taking on a more passive role in relationships, then I think the problem lies with society. Only celebrating strong empowered women in the media sounds like bottled marketed feminism to me.
 
Women should be able to be as dominant or as submissive as they want. That’s my take on Lana re: feminism, I always found it confusing that she doesn’t identify with the movement when feminism is all about embracing all kinds of women, and celebrating their differences and similarities. She’s obviously preaching for a whole genre of women that are like her and are put down for feeling too much, being passive, etc. I think that’s pretty feminist of her imo.

She didn’t lie and honestly who cares about the name dropping the point of the message is what matters. She basically just shouted out the main girls right now in the industry
