I know this is basically blasphemy, but I used to hate Off to the Races to the core.

Now I can't stop jamming to it

I love the beat of this song. This was a song I wanted so bad to hear from the just the name.... Black Beauty was better, but I like this one second, before JFK. I just wish it would've had more lyrics instead of repeating herself.

Thank you so much for finding this. Holy shit, this all makes so much sense with the AA.

So if it's really Pacific and not Atlantic, then what about Guns and Roses?
"I can feel it coming in the air tonight, see you working on that blue Pacific"

Would that mean Ultraviolence and Guns and Roses are about the cult leader? But on the other hand, New York is on the side of the Atlantic so it doesn't make sense. I'm so confused.

Lana, help us. We know you're sitting at your laptop, sipping your Pepsi Cola and laughing at us like   .

"Ultraviolence" is the title track of Lana Del Rey's second full-length LP.

Lana Del Rey said in a Kulturnews interview that the song was about her time in New York when she joined an underground group. It was run by an extremely charismatic guru.

    From her Grazia interview:

"I used to be a member of an underground sect which was reigned by a guru. He surrounded himself with young girls. He thought that he had to break people first to build them up again. At the end I quit the sect."

Then, people was saying that either Jimmy Gnecco was the leader of a sect, was participating or it's a different Jim.

Well, I went a little deeper...

It is speculated that she is talking about Atlantic Group, a part of Alcoholics Anonymous, which she joined in the past. They were notorious for their cult behaviour and treatment of older men and young women. The Pacific Group (which AG is a branch of) is partly run by a man named Jim.

In Google you can find a list of The Cult within AA, where they show "The Wall of Shame" and the names.
    There you go:

    Pacific Group Members:

    Clancy Imislund
    Michael Quinones
    Jim Boch

Searching a little more you can find an article with an audio of Jim Boch en 2010 where he speaks at Atlantic Group about being sober and the cult.
If you google the name "Jim Boch" you will find a few of small pictures of the guy, and, he looks so much like that man:

To me SOC and BB are pretty Barrie-esque.

I think Lana loves so strongly that she probably refers to every boyfriend as the love of her life.

what if lana knows we have this thread and decided to fuck with us like always and while writing uv she said to herself these little bitches are obsessed with k and jim and my teacher lover and everything i do. i can probably blow inside a bottle and they'll buy it. so ill just name drop Jim and have him open up for me for a few shows and sit back and watch these bitches spiral out of control until they eventually lose it. Cause trust no one.

Sorry for Off-Topic, but I would consider a love story to be at least consensual. But it isn't.  Lolita does not love Humbert, she runs away from him, the moment she sees the chance to do it. Don't forget we only see Lolita through the eyes of Humbert - who is captured in his own desires and fantasies. He objectifies Lolita to please his fantasies, even though on the surface he cares for her.

Whoever this professor of hers was, he must be a manipulative fucker... reading Lolita to a teen and making out with her... sounds like abuse to me. I'd punch his face. Even tho Lolita is my fave novel since I was 12, someone playing Humbert disgusts me.

I don't see why Lana would need to change the name. We all know that anything she says/sings sounds like silk so even if the person was someone named Greg or Allen whatever, she would make it work with the song. It is interesting though that she could have just said "he" taught me that rather than a name but, it wouldn't tell as much of a story.

Ultraviolence is obviously about a toxic relationship that both people are addicted to. Because, while Jim seems to be abusive it sounds like she was no better saying lines such as "He used to call me DN, that stood for deathly night shade" doesn't really paint a picture of someone who's nice. Obviously they're both crazy for eachother in the worst way. This song is seriously dark just like she promised. She literally wants to run back to him she can't keep that feeling away she wants it back she wants the Ultraviolence. The crazy toxic life they had together. It's almost like a drug that kind of feeling.

That's just what I think of the song though personally.

Actually, yesterday in Montreal when opening for Lana, Jimmy confirmed this and another song were written for her!

another song that implies that Jimmy and Lana had a thing was Jimmy's song "Fall Into My Hands"   One of the lyrics being, "If you think you were born to die, And it makes you not want to try, Fall into my hands again,Fall into my hands, again."

A couple of nights ago I was really bored.. and I was looking through the death penalty records in CA but there was no one who would fit K at all, and then I checked those inmates who are currently on death row in California.. AND I found a perfect candidate! Name, looks, time of crime, kind of crime, like even the date was on a Monday to Tuesday night (headed out on Sunday, said he'd come home Monday, but he never came back)

Should I share? Too little information for sharing? Too weird to discuss an actual murderer on lb?

Sorry for the sass, I still love you all  But I'm kinda sick of people thinking every song is about that gangster guy with the golden Grill! I mean the majority of her songs might be about him, but come on that dude would be Cuban, Italian, American, from New York, LA and Florida at the same time! Driving a Chevrolet, Pontiac, Pick up and an Escalade..

In West Coast she's talking to sb in the verses directly (I'm leaving you for the moment, yeah you) and in the chorus she's talking about sb in third person (His hands are up) actually think the verses are about Barrie, as she also mentioned she never found sb that dedicated to music as him (You got the music in you) and the chorus is about her crazy Parliament short-time lover.

He has some sort of secret that the girl (Lana?????) doesn't know about. She also has dark secrets (skeleton = skeletons in the closet = an idiom that just means you have dark secrets), but he knows that she will never tell those secrets to people who abandon her and leave her alone.

So basically they both have secrets, but she is more choosy over who she'll tell.

Re: Steven Mertens, I can't remember if someone has found this yet.  Interview with Spacecamp, which Mertens played bass/vocals in

SPACECAMP: Ok this is an awesome question. You know that girl Lana Del Ray? She has about 6,455,290,001 hits on Youtube with her song "Video Games." Well, we were her back up band once cuz her and Steven used to make-out sometimes, for like a year. Well, turns out it wasn't him, it wasn't him, it wasn't all for him cuz she wanted to make-out with someone else one week. I mean look at her. If you had those lips you would want to press them up against a lot of stuff. I would too. So one day Steven comes to practice and tells us he's a bit down cuz he's wondering where she and her mouth had gone off to the night before. I told him he didn't want to know. He agreed and we all started laughing and jamming and we wrote that African influenced song Alibi about Lana and Steven. They're friends now and laugh and joke about where their lips have been.
JK, it's about our friend Lizzy who is a friend of Carly's. She's been looking for an apartment for about three years and her parents are starting to get worried. So we wrote a song for her parents.
