then they unapologetically ripped off his production?. Will ask some of Rick's team on Instagram and see if I get any response from them for clarification (sometimes they do answer lol)

"Starry Eyed" is definitely a Rick + Emile track. I will die defending my opinion. As a hardcore Emile stan, I can identify his production tricks all over that track. Yeah, the song leaked on Rick's website. But the sound effects and the drums are straight up Emile Haynie.

This is how question of the culture should’ve been  they were song lyrics this whole time

As I am reading, it could be Dan Heath who really inspired her to continue to record music after Born To Die and explore that "60's" sound. I am reading they made Life Is Beautiful in July 2012 which fits that theme and seems to be the first song from 2012 recorded that fans know of. The song itself is like a return to music. Whatever scrapped Paradise project she made I theorize was produced mostly by him. I like to think there's a Hollywood Dan Heath version which she was talking about. He still has credits for the "Chemtrails" album! And apparently produced You And Me which is a dreamy track!

I am certain Rick Nowels did Starry Eyed. It's true they did Wait For Life but maybe Emile didn't find that sound until years later.

Also, I mean, when Lana was done making Born To Die she recorded Making Out which is definitely a pop song. So I think she is just lying or exaggerating about this whole classical album thing that she apparently mentioned in the interviews. Probably some other stuff going on fans don't know about that she didn't disclose.

I remember this list from The Guardian and that picture of her with the flowers... she was still blonde. It's interesting she ended up revisiting Driving In Cars With Boys in 2014 out of this list. Maybe there are others. Perhaps it suggests she was mostly unsatisfied with the way this album turned out and didn't find out how to go about the songs until she met producers after Born To Die. I wouldn't even say any of these songs are specifically outtakes they are just ones that didn't make this kind of random list that is the Born To Die tracklist.

This song is just that good, that people forget to mention it. Still a moment

i dont think this topic need its own thread, but i do find it really interesting the 2012 sessions, i mean... after i saw these pics

JFK, Starry Eyed started playing in my mind, and, goes a total speculation from me, but i found it really interesting how these songs were being created alongside other songs from Paradise, but these specific songs, like

    American (Demo)
    Blue Velvet
    JFK
    Starry Eyed
    Young and Beautiful (Demo)
    Holywood
    TV in Black & White
    I Don't Wanna Go
    Life Is Still Beautiful
    Hollywood's Dead
    Bel Air - ?
    What's a Girl to Do - ?

feel very different from paradise that turned out to be, and plus they all are in the same soundscape and could be very easily composed into the one project, plus during the time of creation of these songs, that have that very vintage 50-60 feeling around it, lana was very inspired by looks photos of which i attached. so i thinking if that really is how the paradise actually started, because these sessions couldve really made a solid album, but it feels like it just simply was unfinished due to lana started to create songs with different sound, that is Paradise released version. just a speculation but it feels like another lost record, that i will try to make a concept of and see if something good turning out of that, but as for now i can definitely see the cohesivness that this project couldve had, does it have any sense?

you do have a good point that what we consider to be paradise outtakes did have a different sound/theme, it did seem very 50s/60s inspired and seemed like a more straight-forward continuation of born to die, as opposed to the more cinematic, esoteric, religious feel of paradise we have, but i feel like maybe she could've just been recording a lot of stuff with a variety of different themes/sounds and ended up going with something more cinematic and esoteric, we've known about body electric since the summer of 2012, she even performed it more than once before the release of paradise, she also mentioned gods and monsters a few months before the release of paradise, and who knows how early on the demo of cola was recorded

also, TV in black and white, hollywood's dead, and what's a girl to do are all from 2011 and are more likely to just be born to die outtakes, i don't think she revisited them for paradise

yeah that is right we dont know much of origins of paradise released tracks, and neither for these songs that are jfk, starry eyed etc, its just interesting that these songs feel extra isolated from the paradise weve got

tv in black and white is from 2011 but it just feels so very aesthetically and sonically accurtare to these songs, and since we know there is a finalized mix of that song im interested when that was done, as for hollywoods dead, BOZ said that she actually revisited it in 2012 alongside damn you and possible a few other tracks, but by that time it was a re release of btd with outtakes that boz told us about, and i think the song is also sonically matches the vibe

Wait for Life is beautiful. I would love a whole album in that style.

Life doesn't always work out like you planned it
They say make lemonade outta lemons
But I tried and I just can't understand it

All this tryin' for no good reason
Man makes plans and God laughs
Why do I even bother to ask?

    Well, once, you and I
We were the king and queen of this town
It doesn't matter now, the sun's settin' on our love
    Bye, baby

Starry Eyed will always be one of my favorites…
