The prosecutor side of Kamala is coming out. It’s about time! This is where she shines. So far, he sounds whiny and, honestly, she sounds pretty confident and strong. (Not a perfect performance, but I think she’s doing better than expectation)

This. Anecdotally, I got violently sick with a case of the flu in December 2019, at the time my job involved interaction with a lot of people traveling for the holidays. It was almost certainly an early case of COVID. This debate is pretty boring so far. Same tired Trump talking points. Kamala’s doing fine and her expressions are amusing, but I don’t know that this debate is doing much to sway undecided voters at this stage.

This isn’t the first time that’s happened. He’s had swollen eyes before. He also has a “mood” that’s subdued and I think that’s the mood he is displaying right now. That might be part of why his voice seems a bit off. I wonder if he’s on prescribed medication or something.

This is one of the real problems that often gets overlooked. The electoral college needs to go. The fact that a candidate can win the popular vote by millions and lose the election is ridiculous and not what the founders intended. I could not agree more. This is a problem, but it’s also a problem that so much thought and effort goes into winning swing state voters in a few states. Though not a swing state, I’m glad the democrats did away with Iowa being the first in the nation for primaries. No offense to Iowa, but that state does not represent America as a whole. Most candidates sway to the center to win voters. It happens every cycle. As dumb as Trump is, even he has been pandering to get some sway. To his detriment, he’s wildly inconsistent and still holds many “policy ideas” that disgust large swaths of the electorate. While Harris may be pandering to some degree, I think she’s also simply evolved on issues. For example, I think that climate change is real and it is an existential problem. However, I don’t think the wise solution is to ban fracking “on day 1” and ban gas powered automobiles, for example. The massaging/approach, in my opinion, should be to create jobs and incentives for Americans to make decisions that are better for the environment. You can do that, while still having longer term goals to get rid of outdated, destructive technology.

I doubt it, but who knows. There have been so many wild events over the past month or so that it wouldn’t totally surprise me. Apparently Oprah is throwing her support for Kamala and the only other time she got involved with an endorsement was Obama in 2008. That was kind of a big deal. I’ve been only casually following the DNC speeches. It’s all very long and drawn out, so I’ve mainly been popping in for the bigger names. I wouldn’t say it’s cultish like the RNC, but there’s still a lot of pandering and fluff talk. It was no surprise that Bill spoke. He’s probably one of the more beloved democratic presidents of the modern era, despite some of the scandals. I think Walz was the safe pick. Shapiro would have been great for trying to win Pennsylvania, but it sounds like his baggage might have been too much to overcome. With so much on the line, I think Kamala made the right choice!

I think you nailed it. I’ve been saying that Kamala cannot repeat the mistake that Hillary did with picking a boring VP like Tim Kaine was. I understand that she can’t pick another woman (our country is stupid), but I really hope she keeps the excitement going with a VP candidate who also excites. It won’t happen, but Pete Buttigieg would be amazing. He’s so talented and extremely well spoken. Hell, he goes on Fox News and wipes the floor. Don’t pick a boring old dude and don’t pick someone who people think is an insider.

That’s what I mean. Some people who preferred Biden are going after Harris for similar positions they both had and it’s hypocritical. I’m probably way more left on many issues than most democrats (sex work, drug legalization/decriminalization, etc.) but I’m not a purist in the sense that I’ll vote for candidates who aren’t as progressive as my stance. Assuming they are moving more in the right direction than the alternative. Sometimes incremental change is better than no change, or by moving backward. (Like the Republican Party is doing) Also, if you think Kamala is against trans people, come on. Obama was against gay marriage for a long time. Does that mean he is homophobic? Does that mean his position didn’t change? Progressive, by definition, means evolving and moving forward. I’ll take some progress over retrogradation, any day.

I’m not saying that Biden or Harris is perfect, but 20 years from now, you can easily look back and say that we were wrong, and/or that the majority opinion was wrong. She enabled “Genocide Joe.” I’m not going to touch this one because I am not educated enough on foreign policy to comment and I don’t agree with that framing of the matter. She’s too far left/right. This is funny because you have Fox News and MAGA loyalists saying she’s a socialist, but you have some progressives saying she’s too far right. Full disclosure: I do not agree with any of these. I fully support Kamala for president. I would have liked to see her be less harsh on non-violent criminals in the past, but I can’t wait to see her take down Trump, from a prosecutorial mindset. Plus I think her administration would be lightyears better for our country and our world than four years of Trump. Additionally, I don’t think there’s a viable third party option, so not voting for her, in no opinion, is effectively one less vote against Trump.
