Ocean Blvd. I have never listened to an album more perfect in my entire life. So hauntingly beautiful and thought-provoking.

I remember writing a long ass essay about Honeymoon on that reason in the Honeymoon post-release thread. I still think that. Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd might be her best lyrically though.

Her label mostly but lana’s decision also played a part

bvnnysworld liked a post in a topic by PARADIXO in Paradise is an album. Yes or no?
It was a very popular form of extending an era back in the day, like random deluxe versions now.

I think they mean to say body of work - they’re quite correct though in that this isn’t classed as an EP by definition due to its to run time and therefore, conventionally it’s an album. The label may not have treated it as such, it may never have done the things it’s done if it hadn’t been tacked on.

Paradise sessions started as sessions for second album then she merged it with BTD outtakes (after BTD she planned to release an addition with outtakes from it), and then she throw away BTD outtakes (most of them since I suspect Ride is a 2010-2011 song) and it became like EP, it’s all we know
Why it ended up being an extended thing to BTD we don’t know

What was even the reasoning behind merging it with BTD if any of yall know?

While I do agree that Paradise was sold as LPs but in general, how being an EP is a discredit to a work of art?

Well I think it was her first Grammy nomination of consequence, and it was for Best Pop Vocal Album, and as I'm Lana-spelled-backwards with respect to "authority-figure" opinions on useless issues, I'll just go with that. Also, she might have considered it an album to begin with, then changed her mind later, because the album was shortish, and technically contained two cover songs. :^)
It's also a weird album in virtue of having a title with no title track. There's no song on the album I know of that uses the word "paradise", although the songs are relevant to that (and uses "heaven" a lot). Maybe a better title would have been "Fucked up holiday" or "Soft Ressurection" [the latter would have seemed a wry reference to the Born-to-Die-negative-hype wave, but she probably would have been ex-communicated by the Vatican, and therefore, decided not to go that way].

It was also sold as a stand alone album aswell. I feel like you guys don’t really understand the difference between LPs and EPs. These are terms used back in the day for the total playtime of a vinyl.
An EP would use a smaller vinyl so it could only fit a few songs, like 4-5. An LP could fit more bc it was bigger.
They’re both different forms of albums. An album or a record is a work of art, so why would you discredit Paradise as Lana’s work of art by saying it’s anything less than BTD or any other album?
And technically Paradise as a stand alone already counts as an LP bc it exceeds the typical playtime and total tracks of an EP.

Why do people continue to claim that AKA is her debut when Lana personally has only ever called BTD her debut? She has refrenced BTD as her debut album countless of times. Just look at the racer jacket. Not ONCE has she given AKA that acknowledgment, why would she??

Saying that Paradise isn’t an album just because it isn’t long enough is like saying anyone 5’5” and below isn’t a person because they’re not tall enough.
I agree that Paradise is an album, and I also think short people aren’t people. Both can be true.
Case closed 🫶🏻

I'll say that, despite it was marketed as an EP, yes, it is an album indeed. Length and tracks amount surpass those of an EP although it was marketed as such, probably due to the release proximity after Born to Die. Paradise ultimately has a sound of its own and I've never seen it as an extension of Born to Die cause they're pretty different anyway.
Little reminder that 9-track albums do exist:
FKA twigs - MAGDALENE
Björk - Vulnicura
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Madonna - Like a Virgin and True Blue
Duran Duran - Self Titled
Lykke Li - I Never Learn
and like a couple thousands more lol, they were very common in the 80s and 90s
8-track albums too:
AURORA - Infections of a Different Kind
Lykke Li - EYEYE
Madonna - Self Titled
and many many more. So while it doesn't matter, it's pretty much an album. And an excellent one I just wish I Don't Wanna Go and Young & Beautiful were officially added so this little *controversy* were nowhere to be found dddd

Some of her best songs ever!

I feel like it being an album or not is irrelevant to the fact that it had it's own era
I consider it an EP but I also somewhat consider it LDR2 the same way I consider Violet to be LDR7

I consider it an album. I see how people don’t think it is because lana considers it as an EP and the Paradise edition of BTD. But Paradise was released on its own without being merged with BTD. It has its own distinct era that’s different from BTD alone and 8 tracks seems a little long for an EP imo. Spotify classifies Paradise as an album too soo

considering violet a studio album is kinda insane honestly like… it's not even made of music
sure, there's some instrumentals for ~ambience~ but it doesn't qualify as a song

I treat it as an album it’s in own right. I just wish she’d of added Burning Desire, Young & Beautiful, Chelsea Hotel & LIB as standard tracks. Would of made a stellar 12 track record.

Paradise being sophomore album is like ...
The Fame Monster is Gaga's sophomore album instead of Born This Way
Cannibal is Kesha's sophomore album instead of Warrior
Paradise to Born To Die is very much like Guts to Sour for Olivia - they're different but not so different i guess
