It is already apparent that this will be a Member of the Week like no other.
 

 
"HUNDRED DOLLAR BILL, COME ON OUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!"
 

 
The audience's cries and screams swell as the sliding doors reveal Bill's slim silhouette. He steps out into the brightness of the studio, a grin on his movie-star handsome face and a twinkle in his eye. Bill saunters out, clearly enjoying the effect he has on the frenzied audience members. He approaches Oprah, greeting her with a hug and a whisper in her ear -- "What the fuck? I just find out you're interviewing Sitar too?" -- he leans back, a clenched smile on his face, and give the audiences a wave. The ugly-creying audience errupts with screams.
 
Oprah leans into him, and in a hushed tone says, "I know. I didn't have any fucking choice."
 
To the studio audience and viewers at home, it looks like any other friendly exchange between a guest and host on a talk show. They have no idea. The two address the audience, both forcing smiles as they wave. This is not at all what they wanted.
 

 
"LET'S GET STARTEEEEEEEEEEEEED! Okay Bill, where to begin? How about..."


 
 
 
 

Interview finished, the show cuts to commercial break and the cheerful facade is over.
 
"Fix this!" Bill hisses, his smile replaced with a grimace. He rips off his mic and throws it on the ground, storming out of the studio.

"Cola" definitely is one of her best songs so far, I think. I love how polarizing the opening lyrics are. The media has attempted to draw this very superficial character of her and there seems to be a constant misconception about her personality. She is easily put off as a shallow, asexual and innocent Hollywood rehash which is totally uninteresting in real life. What I have found so fascinating about her from the beginning on was that she was far from being a one-sided character. In fact, she doesn't fit any particular stereotype of women, even if she portrays herself as such sometimes. Sexually explicit lyrics like "My pussy tastes like Pepsi Cola" and even her numerous ambiguous double-entendres on Born to Die smash any attempt made to reduce her to some homogenous cliché.
 
Seeing, at least in the German media, how this is now categorized as a small controversy, I can only applaud her courage to stand by the sexually-charged lyrical imagery she creates, even though she was advised to drop it.

I'm so sad that the series sort of abruptly ended. And some of the actors have passed away. That psychic old lady was so fun. USA even did it's own version of it called Kingdom Hospital.
 
 
Did you watch the director's cut? That one made more sense that the original theatrical version. Donnie Darko is in my top 5 movies. There was a sequel that I never watched.

Even though it's not really film, but more of a mini-series, I've been enjoying "The Kingdom" by Lars von Trier. I ordered the box-set few days ago and watched the first episode with a friend. But I couldn't stop since then... back then in 1994 it was argued it was Denmark's response to Lynch's ( ) "Twin Peaks" and it sort of is. There is this generic narrative of a hospital telenovela laid over a truly disturbing and shocking subtext of anything dark which somehow creeps people out. I did laugh out loudly in some scenes, but just like that I was overly disgusted and paralyzed in other scenes. I am generally obsessed with anything which has this wide gulf between the dark and the light, and this show perfectly embodies this troubling but yet comforting sentiment. Quite contradictory, isn't it? But for me, there is no other way to say it.
 
It's pretty obvious that it's not an American show because it is shot with quite basic camera angles and uses the Dogma 95-technique for both camera work and setting. I don't want to diminish cinematography produced in America, but sometimes I prefer a less artificial, which is also what I somehow obsess with, format for television.
 
The series consist of eight to ten episodes, depending on the different cuts issued in various regions but the content is always the same. Those that like Lars von Trier's film work such as "Dancer In the Dark" (shout-out to Björk ) or the Europa Trilogy will love it! But those that know his recent work such as "Dogville" or "Antichrist" should prepare for a rather prosaic style compared to the extremely aesthetic optic he presented recently.

It's Video Games slowed down 7.21x. The vocals freaked me out at first but it's really growing on me. I love how ethereal and haunting it sounds. I kind of reminded me of that Justin Bieber song slowed down 800x.
What do you think?

Hey everyone, I know we've been extremely a bit behind schedule with MotW lately, but Hellion's awesome interview along with the super-amazing-fantastical-cat-tastic interview coming after his will hopefully make up for it! I definitely think it will. Anyway, I had a lot of fun reading this one. It's one of my favorite interviews to date, although everyone's has been great. Let's all give Hellion a round of applause for beating out the.. uh.. thing... that is frankee. We all know that Hellion's sass is insurmountable though, and it sure shows through the interview! Yeah, it's been pulled from every US retailer.
 
So, i just went to my local record shop and returned it. They had already pulled all copies from the racks. They told me that they had already reported it and been instructed to ship back all sealed and returned open copies. The record company hasn't given them concrete news, but they should be getting in a new shipment of the correct pressing sometime "soon." The employee told me to "like" the store on Facebook because they're going to post when the corrected copies come in. In the meantime i made an even trade for one of the new Beach Boys mono/stereo remasters Fuck yeah.
 
I'm really interested in seeing how this all turns out though--what sort of statement, if any, Interscope might release, if Lana states anything about it publicly, how many defected copies sold in total, how much money Interscope is losing, if this is going to affect sales/charts, as well as public perception of the album, because it's getting negative reviews on merchant sites based solely on the bad pressing. It's an odd situation because there's a new record out, but it's going to be unavailable for some time.
 
We should keep this thread going as the source for any news on any of this. I'd like to follow the developments but a) i'm lazy and b) i don't have the time. So if someone wants to keep tabs on this and update this thread that would be most welcomed and i'll telepathically send you a virtual cupcake for your efforts.
