The Other woman fits so perfect in the theme concept album that Ultraviolence is-
Lana is THE OTHER WOMAN in almost all the songs....so much so that I wish they used HER VERSION of the other woman in the final episode of Mad Men on tv.

In Honeymoon- Don't let me be misunderstood is the single most important end song, because she is ordering Dear Listener/Dear Reader/Dear Viewer to understand what Honeymoon is about
( a dissertation on fame and on Elizabeth/Lana herself and demands that one goes from Cut 14 back to cut 1 and listen again in a never-ending-loop

the interesting thing about Don't let me be misunderstood is it is sort of a composite version of Nina's/The Animals/Santo Esmeraldo (all 3 had hits with the song and was not a direct copy of Nina.
The instrumentation had very big hints of the Animals version. (the Organ)

as for some of the media interviews and such- she is toying with them. They have fucked with her so much that now she leads, they are on their knees begging for any morsel and she is not on script. She controls them, not the other way.  (High by the beach also responds to the print media, not just the paps and the stalkers at the wrong time).

and I agree that there should be no bonus songs because those are not meant for the concept part

Lana should release more physical vinyl singles which have unreleased B sides (like Pet Shop Boys and Springsteen always did)
and put bonus stuff there  (and then those can be uploaded to YouTube and other places)

Been a fan since West End Girls, throughout their entire now 30 year career and the last act prior to Lana that I consider really great.
The progression from pre-rock, to Elvis, to Orbison to Beatles to Elton to PSB to Lana

I think PSB are the natural continuation of Elton (wish they did more stuff together

Seen them in concert at least 6 different tours in the US at various places in NYC

Just released their latest lp "Super" this week. Entirely fast, no ballads on this (they say their next will be heavy with ballads).

Their song from this "Pop Kids" is somewhat of a fast Being Boring (one of the greatest literary songs)

Love Neil's songwriting and voice. Chris's music. Would it be wrong to say they invented EDM before it was called EDM (or whatever it is called now)

@@PARADIXO- actually, there is no song I dislike, especially no song I hate.
Which is the most amazing thing about Lana.  Artists I have constantly listened to historically had clunkers (Elton John used to have three or four "filler" songs on his most popular albums, the Beatles had some shitty songs, Pet Shop Boys, Kate Bush had many songs I simply could not listen to more than once. Indirectly was having a conversation with someone today who had in the background a mix of Simon and Garfunkel songs and he (who is not familiar with Lana)

I said he was wrong...I said there is one-
Lana has from day one had that harmony and the best thing is- it is all her, all her own vocals layered, as if she was S&G, the Beach Boys, Elton John (whose
songs in the 1970s all had great harmony by his own band (Davey Johnston, Dee Murray, Nigel Olssen and guest studio singers).

Lana's vocals in general, on the entire Honeymoon album, the bridges, etc. are Roy Orbison like opera like.
(someone else a few pages back said WRONGLY, her voice was small...no it is opera like but she sometimes is singing softly (as if she is singing to herself only, and those listening are just eavesdropping on her private moments

    that's my opinion on it.
Sorry for not seeing your response sooner.

and btw, her original Summertime Sadness song, first thing I thought when I heard that was
Nancy Sinatra's Sugar Town (Sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-sh Sugar Town). Summertime Sadness is a fuller, better song.

This will obviously never happen but this has always been one of my favourite songs ever, it's about an old mafioso that has repented and is chased by his old mafiosi friends so it's very Lana and it's sumptuous, it reminds me of Salvatore and I think it could kill me if she sang it Chelsea Hotel style.

There is also the music video version but I think Lana would fit the acoustic version more! Please watch this it's unfortunately French but it's beautiful beyond belief

those that hate everything Lana does can write/sing/produce their own album and shoot their own covers and videos and do their own 5 year tours off of 10 mediocre songs
like some of the other current people do and then have your own board, and people can make negative snotty comments about you

the Honeymoon shoot, especially the first shot with the boat making it seem like it was a full size boat in the distance is an award winning shot right there
The Bus shot is amazing (I have said why inother threads)

Is it just me or does there seem to be a real change in Lana? I feel like lana has just got so true to herself and more outgoing. Honeymoon she said was not as autobiographical, but it still seemed so raw and personal. And now she' working on new stuff coming from her "clarity of inner dialogue". She recently did so many great appearances, she cleared up whatever she had with Gaga and now she's super excited to be touring. I don't know she just seems so content and healthy and ugh she just keeps getting more beautiful. I'm seriously so happy that she's happy

Trouble is when those attempt to compare her to other female singers, when she has far surpassed all female singers and is in the rarefied place of the top album artist male/group stars that don't rely on hit singles. Look at Simon & Garfunkel- they made a 60 year career now on what basically was 5 hits, and their first big hit, ala Summertime Sadness was unbeknownst to S&G themselves, put together in a studio to create a different song than was the one on their at the time release that did not chart well. (Sounds of silence, originally acoustic
someone added later on electric guitar and it was #1 while Simon wasn't even in the US and had no idea he had a hit that he thought was a bomb.

BTW- do you know in the USA, what # on the charts Life on Mars got for David Bowie?
How about Leonard Cohen's own version of Hallelujah? (both actually had the same position on the Hot 100).
How about David Johansen and the NY Dolls?

Personally, Paradise was better than BTD, Ultraviolence was better than Paradise and BTD, and Honeymoon is so far the best of all (music/lyrics/story/book)
I personally assume the new album coming soon will be even better than all of them, as each one incorporates and grows from the one before, as it is all part of the same story (and Lana now has been Lana longer than Bowie was Ziggy).

As probably one of the older people here (horrible thought, I used to be all of your ages),
I was aware and into Lana as Lizzy early on. (and this is going to have a few separate parts to it)

However, in 2011-2012 had a major health problem ended up in hospital for 5 days (though no procedure was done).
Doctor called it almost like a parent does- he gave me a time-out to reevaluate my daily intake of food and real soda. (In essence a cheese and coke addict (coke=cola)
Not to mention it had been more than a decade of not going to the doc to begin with.
While there with my computer completely listening to Lana/lizzy wall to wall and from major fan it turned to major inspiration.

In reality, Lana saved my life. Sounds corny, family members think it is bull, however, it is true.
She brought me through and afterwards as I continued to rehab my lifestyle, and for the first time in years began an exercise program where I swim (now at least an hour a day).
And I swam to her in perfect timing (Lana's beats per minute coincide with my hands slapping down into the water (Salvatore is the latest, but I do a perfect sync to Video Games
and Pawn shop blues for instance.

Lana is for those in some ways bullied, flawed, injured, in a way that is not describable and that I never felt before.

A little background for the other thing-
I am someone who was around throughout the 60s and music and politics was my life's fun. (WABC top 40 radio, Cousin Brucie and Dan Ingram DJs) where in the summers in NYC at the beach
just about every one of what seemed like millions of beach goers in Coney Island and Riis Park had their transistor radios all tuned together, so if one walked from the beach to the shack to buy a coke in a green bottle on a day when the sand burned the feet and it was feeling like 100degrees (f).  (WABC continued into the early 1980s before become a shitty conservative talk radio I wouldn't be caught dead listening to).
From actually being there when the English invasion began, Roy Orbison in real time, Sinatra with his 60s hits (That's life, Something Stupid, My Way, NY NY)
and seeing Elvis Presley live in concert (and to this day his later 60s/70s songs are my favorite as I heard them live time real time as they were happening)
Seeing Duke Ellington live in concert, Simon & Garfunkel live in Forest Hills stadium in their prime. Saw Nina Simone and Aretha and Ray Charles
then going to the earliest days of Elton John and Bernie Taupin (1969 onward)
From the mid70s discovered country music and went backward to the 1940s,1950s,1960s legendary artists saw Johnny Cash many times.
(Went to see the Highwaymen and the first time I wondered, why is Johnny there. The second time I saw them, I already realized Johnny is the important part of the group, without him, there wouldn't have been the others)
and first discovering Edith Piaf and Marlene Dietrich and Aznavour and Brel and bing Crosby (saw him live in NYC and saw him light the City Hall Christmas Tree and singing White Christmas)
Then punk and new wave (Saw many acts at CBGBs and Max's Kansas City, saw Lou Reed many times
Then continuing to Kate Bush and the Pet Shop Boys. (while continuing with Elton)
and then, music started to suck big time. Sure there was a single or two that was great, but nothing that made me want to discover everything and anything about an artist

and I was sure there never would be.

My favorite songs of all time are and have been consistent over the years
from the first time I heard them (and both were #1 and #2 the same week)
1968's MacArthur Park by Richard Harris & This Guy in Love by Herb Albert
#3 The Boxer- Simon and Garfunkel 1969
#4 Whiter Shade of Pale- Gary Brooker's vocal as Procol Harum 1968
#5 Elton John's Someone saved my life 1975

Until I heard Elizabeth Grant sing and her songs, and it made me think-
If I myself would put together the perfect musical act, with a spoonful of all the artists in the past, Lana would be the one.
    It is uncanny.

Now, if I made up my all time Top 100, at least 40 songs would be Lana's. After decades of the list never changing.

anyhow...again, Elizabeth Grant saved my life. And I thank her for doing just that.
What an inspiration and what a perfect person for the age when bullying and abuse is heard in the news almost daily.

and as I keep saying, Lana has transcended above every single female artist, writing lyrics as poetry and the music too, and producing, and the sounds and music are akin to Brian Wilson "Smile"
or the Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's". (and the Beatles were 4 people, 2 main songwriters (John and Paul) and George Martin producing.
or Elton's Goodbye Yellowbrick Road or Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy (and Elton only does the music and doesn't produce, and Bernie writes the lyrics)
And how important it is- she PRODUCED every song on the Honeymoon album. She is one of the boys in the highest parts of music.
And I don't give a shit if nobody else here agrees with me. A complete artiste in a world filled with cookie cutter copies. One Lana/Elizabeth.
Others attempt to copy, attempt her style, but one hears a Lana song and it's a Lana song.

Like eating a slice of pizza or a bagel outside of New York City and they call it NY Style. But it ain't New York Original.

note- I might edit this, but for now

Really creepy though. Paparazzi should get a life

    leave her alone.
