this is so embarrassing for her tbh I’m sure there’s other producers she can work with???
-
I’m not really paying much attention but wasn’t this already a controversy like back in 2017 with Kim??? Like I swore she said the same thing or was that a different artist??

tbf it's a breath of fresh air seeing an actual unpopular opinion on here (though I obv hate their opinion ) i feel like this has basically become a semi-unpopular rant thread (that I participate in too ) the last actual unpopular opinion I recall was someone calling Ride shit like months ago

I miss her summer sound last song by her that gives me summer is White Dress and it’s a sad summer song that was released in March

As much as I love singer/songwriter Lana I do want more good surface level pretty songs if that makes sense. Songs that I can twirl around to on sunny day at the beach without being like oh this song is about childhood trauma or something like Shades of Cool, WC, Venice, Dealer, etc. I don’t even mean surface level in a bad way, I think a good artist has a balance between surface level and singer/songwriter-esque stuff, I feel like she’s been on the latter side for a while though

Yup. And as someone who hasn't been the biggest fan of her more recent work, I still don’t really blame it on her producers. I get disliking a producer’s quirks, etc but I feel like blaming your dislike mainly on them almost disregards Lana’s artistry? Like she’s the one who green lights these and I’m sure her producers don’t just write a song and expect her to sing it, she’s involved in the creation process as well. Saying LFL is bad because of Rick is as annoying as saying UV is good because of Dan, because their implies that her producers are responsible for the quality of her music. I see people saying there’s clear differences between Blue Bannisters and works like COCC, but I see more people saying they sound basically the same because that’s just her sound now. I also see her music a reflection of her current state, so of course it’ll change as time passes

Things You Only Get If You’re A Lana Stan

Is be like snow - cold but beautiful even a real Lana quote it had a chokehold on me in 2012 -
UV and NFR are my top albums and COCC is pretty much in the middle for me in album rankings but...I still think COCC is her best title track. Probably her most personal title track as well (I guess Blue Banisters (title track) competes with that aspect, but I don't like BB as much lool). Its lyrics are pretty simple but...they see like a character study of who she was and who she is now (or was at the time the track was released). The White Dress --> TJF track run also sounds like straight up mental illness (I have no other way to describe it ). Honestly COCC as an album is so strange to me, from the album artwork, HTD's bridge being recycled, Nikki Lane, etc. I still wanna know what was going on through their head when they were making it. Somewhat of a mess but it's her mess and I enjoy it anyways
