I love it when Lana's controversial lol

If you think she was bashing the other female artists she listed then you need to learn the difference between judging and using someone else’s behaviour as an example, if you drag her for this post then you’re part of the problem with stifling female voices, she’s saying “look you hold these other artists up for singing lyrics I want to sing, but when I do I get judged and that’s not okay” you can tell she’s fed up of the scrutiny, give her a fucking break

    I-

Good for her for speaking up, I guess. But that wall of text was all over the place. I honestly laughed out loud when I got to the last paragraph where she suddenly announced the new releases after her “rant”.

But yeah, I don’t really have an opinion about whether what she said and the name dropping was “right” or not. It’s just interesting to me to have some insight into how she feels that may be helpful understanding her music (and poetry) better.

I Def feel her and her frustration but namedropping mostly women of color wasn't a way to go about it. Twitter stans will get bored soon enough but no one's going to want to give her the benefit of the doubt after she dated a cop who's racially profiled black people on TV and called him "one of the good ones" lol. I'm just glad she probably won't see that and it'll fade into the background soon enough. I'm here for this Lana, the Lana that tells critics they crossed a line when they go too far (like w Ann Powers), the Lana who posted so openly on mother's day about how the day is difficult for her in so many ways. She's taking no prisoners.

Personally, I think if society thinks lana is moving us backwards by speaking her truth as a woman who happens to be submissive and is maybe okay with taking on a more passive role in relationships, then I think the problem lies with society. Only celebrating strong empowered women in the media sounds like bottled marketed feminism to me.

Women should be able to be as dominant or as submissive as they want. That’s my take on Lana re: feminism, I always found it confusing that she doesn’t identify with the movement when feminism is all about embracing all kinds of women, and celebrating their differences and similarities. She’s obviously preaching for a whole genre of women that are like her and are put down for feeling too much, being passive, etc. I think that’s pretty feminist of her imo.

who knows maybe Lanas going through something personal and feels jealous of other women? It happens to all of us ... shes obvioulsy still upset she didnt win a grammy

she seems more upset with critics than the artists tho

I just don’t get it like... why post that? And why bring other artists into it? I get she had good intentions but the first few sentences came off very weird. And she didn’t need to mention that she’s “not not a feminist” because like... idk i’m not gonna be a sheep and pretend like this isn’t some white girl behaviour.

it actually sucks cause her naming other women takes away from the entire purpose of the post, even if all she's asking is to be treated equally nobody will acknowledge that.. it takes away from her valid points and seems like she's trying to tear other women down and that's all people will take from it

She's released six albums worth of those.

It sounds like she's been stewing over all this stuff for awhile.

Maybe she saw that Lorde was trending yesterday and thought, "fuck this"

"I'm fed up with female writers and alt singers saying that I glamorize abuse ..."

There's a lot to unpack in that post

WOW chile! She took me out of my hibernation with this!
Don't want to be negative and get slandered for saying it but even though I absolutely get her side and point she wanted to make (kinda iconic tbh) but some parts of this letter really rubbed me the wrong way. I agree, she could have left name dropping out of this

She's clearly saying "I was shamed for this in the past - maybe culture's moved far enough through these other artists that I can do what I've always done, and not be shamed for it anymore." Unfortunately we live in a world where people get clicks and cash by misunderstanding people's obvious intentions ...

Love her message, love her biting back at the media, love her making art and releasing it, love her fire coming out again.

But the way she phrased her post makes it too easy to misinterpret her.

To me, she’s asking if now that it’s normal and celebrated to make songs about sex, being sexual, taking agency over your body, etc, if she can go back to writing about more raunchier topics without being dragged by the critics. She is not saying women should be judged for writing about those things, she is just pointing out how her lyrics get put down as non feminist just because she’s being more submissive to men in her sexual scenarios, as opposed to being more dominant and in power. She’s wondering if feminism has a space for women like her, who love hard and fall hard and will do anything for her man.

She’s not dragging other women, She just wants the freedom to sing about what she wants without being seen as weak or like someone who is against women’s rights.

Wish she would have phrased it better but what can you do. She’s never been the best at explaining herself, i think that’s why she makes such good art. It’s the only way she knows how to get her words across.

BUT she also have songs about that themes, see fuckEd my way my up to the top, or sad girl (?) I think she’s not tying to shade them, she’s just asking why did people attack her for being “herself” while others don’t get to experience that :C
  22. Starsx liked a post in a topic by VeniceBambi in Instagram Updates
The people who are mad are turning it into a race thing hahahaha yikesssNow why would she judge them for it when she sings about her pussy, and fucking her way up to the top? When she has vids of herself on a stripper pole? She even mentioned in the post her singing about DANCING FOR MONEY. She was praising Ariana so much lately, about how much she admires her confidence. You feeling shamed is a reflection of yourself and your own self esteem. You should be more strong and secure with yourself, then you wouldnt go around projecting. You feeling shame has nothing to do with Lana lol I sincerely hope you find more strength and confidence within yourself though, I dont wanna come across heartless

She also writes about this shit. She’s posed nude, wrote songs about her pussy, played a stripper in a music video, the list goes on and on. Song after song about being the other women. Have you listened to her music before or read her lyrics.

it's not about reading comprehension. sis said it in a way that sounds like she's saying that singing about fucking and cheating and being naked are somehow worse than what she is talking about
  25. Starsx liked a post in a topic by mkultraviolence in Instagram Updates
I feel like some of you aren't understanding that she could have done this without name-dropping and shaming female artists of color. She says "wearing no clothes, fucking" like their negative things. That's at least how I perceived it. As someone who is becoming a sex worker, hearing her say those things was a real punch to my self-esteem, especially coming from my favorite artist. I don't want to feel shamed and I know I'm not the only one who felt shamed and de-powered.
