I don't see death as being a prevalent theme throughout her music (from Born to Die/Ultraviolence anyway). None of the songs strike me as being based solely on death, implicit undertones perhaps, but 'Born to Die' is actually the only song that really deals with death, the rest of her music does seem to revolve around relationships. Maybe older stuff, but I'm guessing she's talking about the commercially released albums, which makes sense to me as that's what the majority of people would have heard and judged her on.  
I think it's different within the context of the song though. The reason she 'wishes she were dead' is a love lost. To me the lyric was just a way of emphasising the pain; it isn't a song about dying but she used hyperbole to make a point.  
Just my two cents anyway .

I can’t REALLY explain to you why I love her so much unless you have ever felt like you wanted to die or that you were useless or not good enough. Because for years i have felt lost and alone in a world full of opportunities and chances, but none of them have lit the spark inside me that makes me WANT to achieve. she survived a battle with alcohol and rose out of it to become a worldwide controversial icon. she is my role model for every aspect of life. she has been lost and terrified and uncertain of existence just like me and i relate to her so much and if she can pull through all of that shit then so can i.
 
i was sad and lonely and depressed at the start of this year and now, but then i discovered Lana and now 11 months and 108 songs later I'm happier and more certain than i have ever been in my whole life. Lana has filled the hole in my heart that nobody could ever even attempt to fill. she is an angel and has inspired me more than you could even imagine. i live for Lana and i would sacrifice everything for her she means the whole world to me and nobody has ever changed my life as much as she has.

I did a lot of digging today and finally managed to find a lot of interesting things that we didn't know about the May jailer- Lizzy Grant days from the old Myspace. It would be great if you guys appreciate this, it took forever to put together, haha. Most of this is information taken from pictures, they'll be at the end, and the picture containing whatever information will have the picture number next to it in parentheses except performance dates, there are way too many to put with pictures, ask if you need the pictures for the performance dates and I'll PM them. I'm very happy with you. You asked a real, substantive question that actually had a chance in hell of being answered. Yes, "Yayo" is like a timeless jazz standard. I can't imagine how she didn't like how it turned out originally. (Aside from her taking a breath in the middle of the word tattoo, it's perfect.) And from what we've heard of the re-recorded version, I can't imagine how she could like how it turned out any better. But I'm withholding judgement until I hear it in full.
 
Great essay. Over double the required length. However, I'm taking points off due to the lack of pictures, the missing YouTube video, and your failure to properly explain what the tire swing is suspended from.
