Trending songs on Spotify

Hello,

I evaluated the stream statistics from Spotify to find out which are currently her most popular songs there. To be fair I didn't just take the absolute numbers, but also took into account when the song or album was released (assuming that the song was uploaded to Spotify at that time). So I divided the stream count (in millions) by the number of days since the release date (see rate in parenthesis).

The result is a bit surprising, newer songs especially from NFR have more streams per day than classics from Honeymoon, UV or BTD, but see for yourself:

I'm curious how the list will be looking after the release of the album in three and a half weeks.

I think that Spotify overall is growing in popularity, and it is normal that albums get more streams just after the release, so that would explain lower counts for the older albums.

 

Also, the popularity of songs changes over time. For example, on NFR, Happiness is a buttefly was initially one of the songs with lower stream count, probably because of its place near the end of the album. But while other songs were gradually losing popularity, the number of daily streams of HIAB was staying more or less the same, so in the last year it has been the second most streamed song of the album after Doin' Time.

I heard the song some weeks ago in a supermarket radio. Didn't know that Lana was singing there at all, but when I heard her I had to stop my shopping to listen, because I was so stunned.

That's right, the song is not on her albums and I barely listen to radio except in supermarkets :-)

these calculations would be correct if her songs had a constant rise in streams but they don't, there's usually a spike right after it comes out, and this spike grows bigger the more she is famous

 

so obviously arcadia would have a bigger number of streams per day than idk summertime sadness, but it doesn't mean arcadia is more popular

I see, the word "popular" is somehow misleading, my intention was only to find out what is streamed most averaged daily, it's more like "what is trending now". Spotify has it's own popular ranking, but it differs a little bit, I think they take only the streams of the last day or something like that.

I understand why DCMA is on the list since it was a collab with Ariana and Miley, and all three women on the song are talented individually, but song itself...honestly the production was the issue. It was like they just kind of threw some royalty free loops together and called it a day. I think the best part of the song was the video lol

Here's an update quite four weeks after the release of the new album. How did the new songs perform in daily streams since their release day compared to all the others?

Looks like they're very strong, what is normal shortly after release I would say. NFR stays strong, but a lot songs of more recent COCC were kicked out of the top 50 and the others still in had the greatest losses. So let's hope that Dealer and it's companions stay some more time in the top in the next weeks and month.
