these are literally high schoolers level lyrics, they're very shallow and there's nothing more to them than what they seem...

Yeah I also feel like the album's biggest problem is how it starts out like a power stomper, with bubbly production and lyrics about social topics and then just kinda disgresses into a bunch of break-up ballads. While Pandora's Box, Flowers and Goodbye are nice songs and textbook examples of Marinas signature writing, I would have preferred her to actually stick with the route she seemingly wanted to take for this album - both sonically and thematically. And it seems like the Deluxe will just double down on this problem with songs like Happy Loner - which is something I'm really excited to hear but is also another step away from the first half ofthe album and into Marina's comfort zone.

ADIAML title track still one of the best songs released this year but overall ADIAML’s a 6/10 for me. I do still think a good deluxe could improve this album a lot but I feel like she’s just gonna tack a few new slow songs at the end of the album & it won’t really have much impact.

 

Like literally all this album needs for me to make it a Good album is a few more upbeat songs like ADIAML and Venus Fly Trap (or sonically like New America/PTP but NOT with those corny ass lyrics) & a better tracklist order.

now i see it, those lyrics are definitely better (although the motherfucker line is kinda cringe) but still it's 50/50, the quality is not really consistent

Agree, her quality is really inconsistent these days. That verse from Flowers was really perfect. The rest is so basic it hurts. She used to be such a good lyricist and she STILL can write good lyrics, she just lowered her sights. Imagine the power New America would have if she didn't say "ok whatever, i'm done" suddenly.
