Donald Trump & JD Vance Win 2024 US Presidential Election

Again, I don’t mean to sanitize, but just to give a bit of ray of sunshine here:

- Most of Trump’s policies will not be implemented. Tariffs are just a negotiating tactic, and we all know they will not actually replace income tax

- On that note, just like 2016, the biggest Trump legacy will be his tax cuts. I see him further reducing income tax on the top 3 brackets by 5-10% and on the lowest 3 by 3-5%.
- He’s not gonna do jack shit about the border, because his replacement will need the issue to run on in 4 years.

- Mass deportations will not occur, namely because ICE is understaffed and the Trump deficit doesn’t give much room for more govt. spending. Also, the fact of the matter is that most illegal immigrants live in Blue States, and they won’t be helping Trump.
- Gender affirming healthcare (and healthcare in general) will take the biggest hit 😭💔. It’ll now be a state issue, like abortion.
- Abortion had a relatively decent night. The majority of Trump voters also voted to protect or expand abortion rights (except for Florida's “super majority” requirement) and Montana.

Trump’s legacy thus far has been one of ineffectiveness. That trend will continue. It’s just uniquely horrible that he will be able to cement a 6-3 Supreme Court conservative lean, which will have long term effects, but not immediate quality of life implications yet

The media will prey on your outrage for clicks, do not let Trump take over your life.

This is certainly a sad day for many, and I am not saying we are not allowed to grieve and mourn, but this is the path forward, and no amount of tears will change that.

There was no justice last night, but there can be mercy, because we can give that to each other 🙃

Signing off for work

@Mer@Quincy  Do you think Trump will dismantle the NOAA? The environmental aspect of this election is really freaking me out, especially since Trump thinks global warming is a "big scam".

This totally freaks me out because I’m a meteorologist and I know many people who work for NOAA/NWS who are terrified about the prospects. I could see them slashing funding, but I doubt they’d totally dismantle it. This would cause mass chaos that would be far reaching. It would bring air traffic to a halt, for example. People may not realize how critical aviation meteorology is to keeping planes flying safe and efficiently.

Republicans float the idea of dropping agencies like the EPA, Dept. of Education, etc., with no serious intent to follow through. I hope I’m not naive in this thinking…

But yes, I’m deeply troubled for our environment from the next administration.

If democracy means people like Turd can be in power, it really fucking sucks. I don’t want to be overdramatic, but a certain guy was also democratically elected in Germany once…

In a perfect world there would be no way scum like trump would get elected, or at least the fact who gets elected wouldn’t possibly compromise rights of people who aren’t straight white male christians. Sadly, this isn’t a world we live in

to any of the older people here- is this what it felt like when Bush won re-election?

It was rough, but nothing like this. In a weird way, the country was somewhat unified after what happened on 9/11. If it weren’t for that event, you have to wonder if Bush would have won re-election at all.

I wonder if the assassination attempt had more push than people anticipated. Honestly, after it happened, I was sure he’d coast to victory. Biden dropping out was a wildcard, but it was too little too late.

Anyway, 2004 was rough. I was a junior going on senior year and a large chunk of us were very anti-war and the whole Iraq thing was as a total shit show. It’s too bad I was just a few months too young to vote in 2004. (Not that it would have made a difference)

In times of war and unrest, people, unfortunately, tend to vote out of fear and not always out of their best interest of the best interest of their country.

i mean same. but also thats a very dystopian view of the world. because weather we agree with it or not, implimenting a ONE party system is otherworldly. a good solution is to bring forword other partys and make it a 3+ party system to smooth out the playing feild.

trump created this entire new wave radicalits by playing on peoples nostalgia and fear of change. the only way we can stop it is by showing the gp that change is ok, and that we need it.

I’ve said it before the election, and I’ll say it again. If you voted 3rd party this election solely because of Israel and Palestine, you are extremely naive.

last night I just felt frozen from shock, but today I’m very sad and disappointed in this country.

Meh call me radical or whatever but I hate the right and conservatives and would be perfectly happy if they could never win, ever.

even if harris wouldn't have technically been the best person for the situation in israel/palestine, trump is obviously going to be worse, they easily could've voted for harris, instead of wasting their vote for someone who cannot possibly win, at that point, they might as well have voted for trump

i'm sorry, but i don't understand why this is such a difficult concept to grasp, harris was really the only option here

because trump obviously supports israel more than kamala and a vote for a third party is a vote for trump.. not saying i agree but it does make sense
