I also struggle a lot with that idea too. Unfortunately, speaking within the mexican context, I guess it also comes from a lot of issues in mexican society: internalized racism leading to idolizing of US/European people and culture, the idea that a right wing government being more harsh and oppressive equals to more public security, the deeply rooted misogyny that has lead to widespread femicides and hate of feminist women, etc.

Honestly, the fact that Claudia Sheinbaum managed to win easily here is sort of a miracle, too bad Trump winning means he'll be on her ear non stop.
