Lana to present Jack Antonoff with "Producer of the Decade" award at the 8th annual Variety Hitmakers event - December 7th, 2024

After finally catching up, I just love everything about this. I didn’t realize just how close their friendship is and the things they had to say about each other other are so funny. They seem to share the same kind of weirdness and just get each other. So much mutual respect.

It's weird to see someone who the whole world imitates, she's just that person.” — Jack Antonoff on Lana Del Rey at “Variety's Hitmakers Event”.

seeing her give speeches like this when she looks almost exactly like she did in 2012 is so surreal, because it hits even harder that this is the woman who worked through all the shit she had to back then to get to where she is now :trisha3: oh auburn hair lana you’ll always be famous :defeated:

I go back and forth on how I feel about him. Sometimes I really like his production and the work he does with Lana. Other times I feel like it falls very flat. It could be that I just miss the cinematic sound she had, and I felt like after Honeymoon she abandoned it. I still love all her music but pre-LFL had this atmospheric quality that I miss from the more recent work save a few tracks.
You also can’t deny his impact. He’s been involved in so many amazing albums from Taylor, Sabrina, Lana, now Kendrick. His influence is widespread and he’s probably the most well known producer right now.

i know we shouldn't care, and i don't mean to bring any negativity here, but i just had to say something... someone posted a clip of her speech on a gossip subreddit and people are being just so incredibly dramatic, catty, and honestly just vile to her, automatically assuming she's a far-right discriminatory MAGA tradwife (do they even know what tradwife means? lmfao) also just simply making fun of her, calling her stupid, a narcissist, saying her work has no value, stuff like that, i know we shouldn't care what a bunch of redditors have to say, but it pisses me off that people are so close-minded, like, okay, yeah, maybe her speech was a little word-salad-y, and maybe she said things that maybe hinted towards her viewpoints (although it also seemed like she was talking about morals and values within the industry...) but people are just being so harsh to her, and it's funny, since they're the exact kind of people who supposedly speak out against misogyny, but we know that many people who preach against misogyny only really apply that to women they like or deem worthy of that, they're being very dismissive of her as a person, all just because she supposedly might not have the same political stance or beliefs (which we can't know what with certainty) she looked STUNNING and yet all they can say is that she looks like a republican's wife, they're all so incredibly bitter and are probably very boring and insufferable people

and that ISN'T TO SAY that people cannot criticize her decision to marry someone with questionable values and beliefs, i don't particularly like it either, but the people here are just being so nasty, and i feel like they wouldn't act so vitriolic towards anyone else, people get so weird about her, and never take the time to learn more about her, or to understand her

I'm not surprised, as Reddit is a popular platform for Manosphere followers.

Well, I didn't follow everything about it but it seemed like a great night, with Lana resplendent and reminiscent of the glamour of her early days, she's beautiful.

As for Jack, he seems to be kind, careful, a beautiful soul in life. He pays attention to others and seems to take care of others.

For his music, he knocked Lana down for me.  :toofunny:

I rarely, if ever, listen to her new songs. I haven't even listened to OB in its entirety yet, and I don't know why but her work has definitely been boring and uninteresting since 2019. :toofunny:

It pains me to write this because she still sings very well, she will remain a superior artist, her post-Covid albums remain a reference when you compare the crap of now but pfffffff, I don't know, I'm slowly losing interest.

Her simplicity and authenticity as a person is always very pleasant in this environment though.

On the other hand, as soon as an unreleased song comes out, I feel it like a new record, it's exciting and I come back to her. Because it feels good to remind us that she sang so many gems before.

For me, Lana is really the woman and the artist before this period. I mean, if musical excellence had to have a name, it would be Lana Del Rey between 2010 and 2017. Honestly, everything was perfect, intimate, beautiful, sincere and so on.

A little corner of the old Internet that was quite dark, with disturbing videos, it was really cool. That's all her. She transformed herself and her old albums created her myth. :flutter:

I have a lot of trouble with her new records, and I find her strangely overrated today (it's hard to write it) when her peak was clearly Born to die, Ultraviolence an absolute masterpiece, Honeymoon and LFL to a lesser extent. Let's not forget her soundtracks, absolutely sublime, stunning. I don't know...

For me something broke artistically and it always makes me understand that artists have this need for success sometimes, for recognition and that they have to format themselves to stay in the race. I also don't like the fact that she became a "trend", at the wrong time, Tiktok is not Tumblr and it's pretty brutal let's say. Her songs are sullied by stupid videos, but that's the lot of all artists, they make their living on it. :burn:

So Jack is not a bad guy, but someone who influenced her in the wrong musical direction. Softer, more peaceful certainly, apart from Blue Banisters, nothing is good in my opinion, that's just my opinion. At least, Lana is too "big", it doesn't fit with him. He can't highlight her and the albums fall flat. If the "country", "ethereal girl" side worked at the beginning, it becomes redundant now and painful that even reproduced, it becomes its own caricature. :(

Lana will always remain that artist, special, intimate. Inspiring and touching. Gifted. An old soul that we view like an old book, old memories. Her old songs are a refuge. But there you go, I don't understand why she has so much success today with such average songs. If she had started her career the other way around, I would probably have missed it and so many others in my opinion. :smh:

She is happier and less tortured, I admit that making such heavy albums must weigh on the mind, but not everything must disappear either eh

(ONCE AGAIN I WROTE TOO MUCH SORRRRRRY :toofunny:)

In an interview with Variety, Jack Antonoff spoke about Lana Del Rey’s promised country album and the songs “Hey Blue Baby” and “I Must Be Stupid,” sung by the duo in 2018. “I’m not sure, because she always has these, like, little planes on the runway, and some take off, and some don’t, and some take off and come back. A perfect example is the second half of “A&W” [the “Shimmy-shimmy koko-pop” rap section]. That’s been going on for a long time, and I kept feeling like, “We gotta break up,” but she knew… She’s an interesting person, we do a lot of things, and they live in different time periods, and they grow and change. I don’t want to give an overly esoteric answer, but she’s an artist who is completely what she seems. There’s no fucking Oz there. Most of these people are what they seem.”

In an interview with Variety, Jack Antonoff commented on the production process of the album “Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd”. “When Lana and I were working on her last album, it was so clear, based on where she was. There was so much beautiful darkness, and also a kind of reverence and silliness, and it all just came together.”
