Giving it back to the states knowing that a lot of states are against it and will ban it is just as bad, why are you defending him on this? Whatever his personal feelings may be, Trump IS bad for abortion rights.

I didn’t say it was a good thing. But saying Trump HIMSELF is against abortion and supporting a national abortion ban is giving fear to people that is unnecessary.
it did backfire to give it back to the states. It was a very dumb idea. He’s not a smart guy.
jm not defending him. I’m trying to explain the lies vs the truth. Saying he’s against abortion is a lie. He supports a lot of shit that’s actually awful (like climate actions for example) but he supports abortion. He’s probably paid for a few

Him paying for a few abortions means nothing. There are "pro-life" Congresspeople who have also paid for abortions that pass anti-abortion legislation. This point is moot.

He deliberately appointed Supreme Court justices to overturn Roe v. Wade. Yes that gives it back to the states, but now that Republicans have the House, Senate, and White House, they could easily pass a nationwide abortion bill. Our new Pillsbury Doughboy ass Vice President is set to speak at the "March for Life" today. Anti-abortion legislation is absolutely part of this administration's agenda. You are fooling yourself if you believe otherwise. It genuinely doesn't matter if Trump said "I would veto a national abortion ban" because the man lies out of his teeth. He would absolutely go back on his word. Women are allowed to feel afraid right now, and that fear is not unnecessary.

edit: The literal speaker of the house is at the "March for Life" right now making it very clear he intends to make abortion very, very, very hard to get.

He’s made it clear he is not against abortion but just wanted to give it back to the states.

We can all agree that was a dumb decision but he’s always been very clear he doesn’t want an abortion ban. That’s fear mongering from the left.

That's being against abortion lol. He wants to "give it back" bc he knows so many will ban it and ban traveling for it. He's just trying not to claim it.

It is so cursed that Mitch McConnell almost voted to convict Trump after J6 but didn’t have the guts to do it. It would have cascaded into a landslide conviction against Trump and he would’ve been in jail by February 2021…

And now The Pale Man is ending his 800-year reign as the Senator from Kentucky feigning anti-Trumpism by voting against one (1) of his Secretary nominees

The different timeline we’d be in :eartha2:

They were both ass and I blame Joe Biden and the Democrats for this. Had Joe not lied about being a transitional president, there would have been a competitive primary. Had Kamala not felt entitled to the presidency and allowed a competitive primary, there would almost certainly have been a better chance to stop him. Had the Democrats not failed the Arab community by supporting genocide, more of them would have voted Democrat. Had Democrats not pushed the lie that the economy was strong and admitted that FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON the economy was terrible and ran on improving that, they could have won.

The economy was going great for rich capitalists but not for the working class. They kept denying it. This and the genocide support combined with the undemocratic nature of the candidate selection? They were guaranteed to lose.

Hypothetically , state rights accounts for more constituent power in communities, but the problem is lack of education, and thats where trump will really fuck us over.

Without proper education and discussion of such topics, in a world where the majority of your choices (if not all) rely on your life and learning experiences , no freedom of choice exists.

Why are MAGA set on calling people “illegal aliens” it’s a weird thing to say, you could just use the term illegal immigrant

it invokes a different connotation that benefits their specific agenda.

Part of it is depersonalization. They view immigrants as subhuman and unworthy of fundamental human dignity and respect.

I strongly disagree. The main driver of the States rights movement a is a response to abolitionism and civil rights.

State rights are a double edged sword. They put pressure on the nation and build momentum for social causes. A classic example would be Gay Marriage, the continuous legalization at the state level built enough momentum to have it accepted as a federal law—and I’m not certain that momentum would’ve been built a federal level.

Additionally, state rights are important bc the US is so large. Nevada has very different needs from Vermont, and trying to have one governing body fit both would not work.

What I think we can all agree, however, that healthcare doesn’t need to be a states’ issue bc women all over the US have the exact same needs when it comes to their health.

I also think the GOP misjudged their abortion stance. Abortion doesn’t need to be a wedge issue, if it were put to a national vote, most polling suggests that 2/3rds of the US would vote to legalize abortion in most cases. (https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/fact-sheet/public-opinion-on-abortion/).

I think it’s silly to wave a hand to all states right and say “bad”, but I think we can agree that some things are needlessly given to the states when they affect everyone just the same.

Trump today halted all federal grant and loan programs, except for ones that “directly benefit” ppl, like Medicare or Social Security

This unprecedented move halts hundreds of billions in federal aid including disaster relief and school programs. Absolutely beyond belief
